Anyone looking for a good deal on dumbbells?

RE: Legit

Skips out of thread yelling "OOOOH! OOOOOH!" like Arnold Horshack from Welcome Back Mister Kah-tare.

RE: Legit

I feel so dense!! I never thought to use my donut 2.5 platemates to increase my 40# DB to 45. Duh!!!

Oh, and I have stacked my 1.25 and my 5/8 platemates on the ends of my dumbells with no problem. I guess it might depend on what exercise you are doing. But they were stable.

Don't feel dense, it wouldn't have occured to me except I read it somewhere and thought it was a damn good idea. Space is an issue for me so I'm always thinking about ways I can be more efficient. Thanks for the info about doubling up on the platemates, that's great news!

Just a hint guys - this website times out after about 5-8 minutes. I went ahead and set up an account so that my cart would automatically be saved. I'm still up in the air as to what I'm going to get now that I'm thinking about the platemates.... decisions, decisions.... The price keeps getting higher and higher... ;)

Okay, maybe this is a stupid question, but here goes: do I need two 35lber's or just one? Right now I'm thinking I can only use it for back and maybe (with the help of STS) do overhead extensions. I can 30's for chest presses, but it's tough...so will I need two dumbells?

I can't think of any bilateral exercises that I will go that heavy on.

What do you guys think, one or two? Or platemates? And, BTW, how much are platemates? TIA!

And thanks for the link to this sweet deal. I was just looking on EBAY and couldn't find what I wanted. I cost compared and Dick's and there was no comparison!!

You might be able to use two 35lb dumbbells for chest press. I know I can't right now, but I may very well work up to that level using STS. We'll see...

I just ordered a set of 30 lb dumbbells, and then 2 sets of Platemates (a 1.25 lb set and a 2.5lb set). I'm so excited!! :D Thanks for enabling me, Liann!!!

Now THAT is a great deal : especially with free shipping (shipping costs are sometimes even more than the cost of weights!). I'm seriously contemplating getting another 35#-er (I already have one) and a pair of 40#-ers (though that last might be a bit ambitious!)

>> Thanks for enabling me, Liann!!!

Lol, anytime! ;) I went ahead and went with 10, 15, 20, 25, & 30's. I also got 2 sets of the 1.25 lb platemates from fwonline.com (they were $19.50 per pair for the hex 1.25 lb ones). I should have all my increments covered now. ;) I'm ready for 12.5 lbs, but not quite 15, so this will work good for me and with my DH working out with me, it's better for me to have more dumbbells available. ;) I got him a pair of lifting gloves from fwonline to sweeten the deal a little! ;)

p.s. Just to add, I thought about getting the donut platemates, but they aren't safe on dumbbells under 20 lbs. It will take me a little while to get to that level, so I needed the hex ones. They fit safely on the smaller hex dumbbells and still work for the larger ones.

I tried to order a barbell set and a pair of 15lb dumbells from them, and they are still showing shipping costs?! Any idea how to get the free shipping?

Hmm... as long as your order is over $50 it should work. At what point are you seeing the shipping charges? It says they will not be removed until step 3 of your checkout. When I did it, they automatically entered "95" in the discount code box, but maybe yours didn't and you will need to type 95 manually? There is a 1-800 number at the top of the website that you could always call and check with as well.

Thank you so much for this information. I told my DH I wanted dumbbells for my birthday this year. I asked for 45 and 50 pounders. I'll let him know where to get them with a great price. I can hardly wait!

I also have many wrist weights from 1lb - 2.5 lbs increments that can be doubled on each wrist if necessary and 2 platemates at 1/2 lb each to add to the weight when needed.

I think I'm ready now for STS. Can't wait to get started.

Hey guys! Heads Up! They have a humongous charge on freight of $130.00. I guess my weight selection was too heavy. It's too heavy for UPS. Also they charge tax.

The idea is to die young as late as possible

Janie - aside from a pull-up bar (which I plan to get Cathe's as soon as it's available), I have everything I need for STS. I probably could have just used what I had and modified everything, but what fun is that? ;) It's amazing how cheap the actual workout program is compared to all the accessories I bought for it!!!

Thanks, Liann. What a great deal! I ordered a pair of 15s and a pair of 20s (not ready for the 20s yet, but I will be one day!!!)

Melissa - let me check on that for you. I bought a few other things from FW, so let me see what the shipping was for just that item. I think it was going to be $4 something before I added the other stuff.

ETA

Here is the standard shipping rates for FWonline.com. It is so hard to find this page on their website! http://www.fwonline.com/ship.htm . It depends on your state. It turns out that it would have actually been around $6 something for just that item. On several other sites I looked at, these were around $24 before shipping, so I think FW still has the better price.
