Yes, I"m a Monk fan (but I recorded the final ep and haven't watched it yet). From last week's episode, it seems rather obvious who killed Trudy (the question that remains is 'why') since the show has never really been about hard-to-solve (for the observant viewer) cases, but more about a character.
One of my favorite shows was when Monk had to go somewhere by plane, and the annoying little kid in front of him kept telliing him the "Pete and Repeat when down to the lake. Pete fell in. Who was left" shtick, and Monk couldn't help but compulsively say "Repeat" so the kid kept saying it over and over. It was the perfect blend of humor and pathos, with Tony Shaloub brilliantly, IMO, walking that fine line between being comedy and tragedy.
