Anybody want a husband?

Because I'm going to strangle mine!!!! I get home last night and there is a new 42 inch flat screen in the basement. He's been talking about saving up to get one, fine. But apparantly he found a killer deal online for black Friday and order the dang thing. His brother works in the field and told him its a great deal and even he couldn't get one cheaper. Fine, but he put the thing the on the Dell card, which was paid off. And it won't fit in the upstairs TV cabinet, it will hold a 37 inch, max. So its down stairs, which is my workout spot, and where DS plays. He moved his XBOX360 down there as well. Apparantly the XBOX will play in HD. I'm thinking I shouldn't have got him the XBOX for his bday. So now I have Cathe on a big TV, which is great, but there was NOTHING WRONG with the old tv. Seems to me an awful waste of $$$ to play video games and workout. I know he's eventually going to get one for upstairs, too, and I'm ok with that, just seems a waste of $800 to shove it in the basement. GRRRRR
He said he figured I'd be irked at him. Um, ya think?!?!?!?!? Just couldn't pass up the deal, I guess. I think it bugs me so much, bc since my job switch, I don't have as much fun money for myself, so it kinda pushes my buttons. We don't have joint accts. His is his and mine, and mine is mine and we split the bills. Oh well, sigh!

Nan! :p In defense of your husband, $800 for a 42 inch flat screen????????? That is a helluva deal! See now, when I get a very expensive purse for half price, I believe I'm saving money. ;)

My parents have a rule

Its called the 50$ rule. That means that they have to call each other and discuss any purchase over 50$. It works. They have been married for 35 years and together for 40 years. Just a thought. I don't know if that would help you guys. What it shows is a respect for the other person.

800$ could buy an awful lot of Cathe stuff. I think you should make him send it back and get a tv that will fit upstairs.

Oh Nan! I can totally sympathize! My DH had to get a BRAND NEW computer because his "old" one wouldn't play the new video game he wanted to get. Ummm...so don't get the video game:rolleyes:!!

My DH wants to do the same thing with the TV we have in our office. It is a perfectly good tv but he wants to get a flat screen HD TV just because:eek:! Thankfully, my DH did not see the deal yours did or we would have a 42-incher in there!

My husband does this ALL THE TIME!!! Not tvs, mind you, but buying things NOW that we agreed, or at least I thought so, to purchase later.

FOR INSTANCE!!!

He wanted a waterfall and fountain out back. I thought we agreed to wait. WELL! When I was at RT this year he started it!!!! I was so mad. I went on a tirade about what an ugly lump of dirt it was! I felt bad later but......

Glad my DH isn't th eonly one who does it!

Just think....at out 50th anniversary party we can tell these stories and give everyone a good chuckle!:p

Nan - My DH does this ALL the time too! I just finished paying off his freaking Dell XPS that he just HAD to have (even though he isn't even a gamer, I am). I have since taken over the finances though. ;) He doesn't TOUCH our account now and the credit cards are off limits. ;)

OK am I the only one who would use it as an opportunity to go splurge on something I really wanted? LOL. That's what my ex and I used to do, he'd splurge then I'd match it (or vice versa).

My DH is the same way  Drives me bunkers.

He did a similar thing. Just that the flat screen plasma tv is now in DS's room since it doesn't fit in the living room. Don't know why a 12-year-old needs an expensive tv in his room, I don't know why he needs a tv in his room, period. And now both my kids have a tv in their. I was pretty upset in the beginning but I am thinking, there are more important things in life and I save my energy for what's REALLY important to me.

That didn't prevent me from using it for "blackmail" when he wanted me to cut down on the number of my dogs :D

He said he was orig going to make it a family present from Santa, but didn't want to wait to play with it. How he was going to stash that somewhere I don't know. It just bugs me that the nice TV is now in the basement, but he was along Lauramax's sentiment of "what a deal!" I knew we'd be getting one, but I figured it'd be smaller, and upstairs for the the family, and I didn't expect to see it last night. I did get a couple of good natured digs in last night.

Him - we are out of paper towels. Me - you just spent $800 on a tv, you can buy the paper towels.

Me - $800 sure would have gone a long way toward my eliptical that I want, or my new tattoo that I want. Perhaps both.

Me - I belive the next economic stimulus check is MINEMINEMINE

No use screaming and yelling about it, whats done is done, even if I do think it was a bit silly. Also didnt help the we had to spend $260 on a plumber yesterday for a cloggy drain that we couldn't get unstuck.

Also, a lady from Dell called the other day, with a heavy accent, and didnt ask for anyone in particular and just started rambling, I couldn't catch what she was saying, so I thought it was a sales call and hu on her. She called back right away and said she had been dsc. I gave her to DH but I didn't want to deal with whatever it was, but she was telling him when the TV was going to be delivered. I probably shouldn't have hu, bc then I would have known a week ago. However, she didn't even ask for anyone in particular, she just started talking!!! DH also said when they delivered last night (I was still at work) they didn't ask for ID or a reciept. What if they had the wrong house, the neighbor would have had a free TV.

Nan

Nan - I would have been ticked off, too.

DH and have separate accounts so we can buy stuff without consulting each other, but whenever it comes to a large "shared" household item like a TV, furniture, appliances, etc. we always approach it together.

I got rid of my husband about 3 years ago, one of them is enough!!!

Yikes! Do people really spend that much money to watch the crap on TV these days??? $800.00 would buy a lot of good Cathe gear!

Nope, he doesn't watch TV, except the news. He will use it for video games and movies. Sigh

I guess I'm missing the part as to why you care about this?
You get to do Cathe on a new big TV. It's money that he saved for this purpose, and he bought it on a good deal. And from the sounds of it, it's "his" money that he spent.

I guess I'm confused, since you get to benefit from this too.
Is it because he didn't talk to you about it first? If he had, would you have told him to do something differently?

I really hate to say this but a little girl at work went out on Black Friday and came home with a 40" LCD for $299. She also got a free IPOD from Old Navy. I never do BF because I've always been too afraid of ending trampled to death by desperate mob at WalMart. I just look at this girl and think 'She's so little... maybe she's more aggressive than she looks.'

As for your husband, I don't care what the "deal" is, if it comes with interest it's no deal, especially not in this economy. I don't know what your economic situation is but, with MY economic situation, If he were my husband he'd be paying for that tv himself. I'd be furious.

Tell him to send the TV my way! I've got nothing but old, fuzzy-pictured, garbled-sounding TVs in my house, INCLUDING the one I workout with!

My husband used to do this very same thing. I say that what took somebody 10 seconds to MENTION took me 10 MONTHS to talk him out of!!! :)

p.s. In the meantime.....enjoy!!! :)

Very good. Reminds me of how, way back in the day, my mom took over the finances and put Dad on an allowance(!). She said he was actually very responsible with money but she took over because she enjoyed it. She did, too. If I left a piece of mail on the dining room table it would be covered with columns of penciled figures. She could do math on paper faster than I could punch them into a calculator. And her totals were correct while mine often weren't.

This thread really takes me back.

Don't want another husband but.....

Me and my husband both need another wife.....someone to cook and clean...so we don't have to. I can't fuss at my husband for buying anything ever.....because two years ago I took out a loan to buy a horse without telling him.....I'm in the doghouse forever!!!!
