Another Jari Love question

I had posted last week that I just got three of her workouts (Slim and Lean, Ripped 1000 and Ripped to the Core). I am wondering how people "classify" these workouts. I am not sure if they could be considered a full-body weight workout or a cardio-ish workout (since she dies get your heart rate up pretty high with some exercises). How do those of you that do these workouts consider them (I hope this makes sense)? I don't really think it's cardio, but I don't feel like it's full-body weights (like MuscleMax).

TIA! :)

They are full-body weight workouts, not cardio, but the pacing and sequencing makes them burn more calories than typical straight-set workouts. Why do you not feel like they are full-body weight workouts? They use weights to work every muscle group.

Get Ripped 1000 does have those cardio/plyo intervals, but that's more to keep the metabolism up, IMO.

I definitely got DOMS the first time I did them but I just wasn't sure they were full-body weights because my heartrate goes higher than other weight workouts and I use lighter weights. That said, since it is such high-reps, I could never use the weights I use for other workouts with less reps. I do feel like I got a great workout from them.

I just got my Jari Love DVDs last week and I've been loving them! Even though the high reps are difficult, somehow the video goes by very quickly, and I like the mellow tone of it. The ab portions are a little bit of a mess, but other than that I really enjoy the whole thing. I have been wondering though whether she intends you to do her workouts three times a week and nothing else, aka cardio? I've been trying to alternate her workouts with some good cardio, usually Christi Taylor, and am not sure if I might be overtraining this way. I work out 6 days a week with one of these videos, or sometimes with Cathe or The Firm.

Does anyone know whether Jari's DVDs are intended to be used alone or with cardio?

I don't know the answer to this, though she talks a lot about burning calories in the videos. Typically I don't lift weights to burn calories (though I know having more muscle helps you burn more in the long run) so I add cardio. Not sure what she intends, though.

Here's a link to one of the discussions on Jari Love's rotations forum: http://www.jarilove.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=90 Maybe that'll shed some light on it.

judegirl,

I am really liking the "mellowness" of her DVD's as well. I have gotten so used to doing sets that the high reps are quite challenging! I agree with you on the abs sections, though. They are a bit of a mess. I think her exercises are good but I don't think she does enough of them. I am thinking of adding in a section of CoreMax after her workout.

Lorie, when I was doing the Jari's, I would go ahead and do the ab workout as is but on the next day I did pure cardio and tacked on core max or some other more comprehensive ab workout.

Thanks, girlie!!!

When you were doing them what did you notice as far as gains (i.e. tone, definition, weight loss, etc.)?

I started off with these in November after about a 2 year hiatus from working out. I used to do body pump at the gym and so I wanted something that would be kind of like that. They helped kick my booty into gear big time and helped me lose the first few lbs and get my muscles back into working out mode. I will probably do a rotation with them again eventually but I got burned out on them after doing that exclusively for several months. :)
