Amy Bento or Kelly Coffey-Meyer

I want to get a couple of cardio DVD, other than Cathe. I am considering Kelly bc of her kickbox-step workouts but I see that people are constantly praising Amy,

What do you think??

I want to spend about 50 bucks, and I just ordered Cathe's CTX,
Which instructor you prefer and which workout should I get??
Sorry for the double post

If you have $50 to spend, why not try both?
Are you looking for anything specific like step, hi/lo, or kickboxing?

If you want the best bang for your buck, get Amy's Hi Lo Xtreme. I'm not going to lie, her choreography is complicated, so there's a learning curve, but I think they're very fun once you get the hang of it. That goes for all her choreography, with the exception of Rumble which is easy to follow. HLX also has many premixes and in total, about 80 minutes of footage of her All Pump Xtreme workout, so if you don't already have that one, you can try it out if you get HLX. The premixes are well chaptered so that you can very easily skip over the cardio portions to get to the strength, if that's what you choose to do.

You can get a LOT if you purchase at deepdiscount.com they have a lot of Amy Bento stuff.

I have both of KCM's step-boxing w/os and really like them. Her choreography is fun but not as complex as Amy's.

I bought Amy's when she came out initially and pretty much gave up on her. But recently I bought In The Ring and ASC3. I'm learning them one combo at at time and having a lot of fun with them. She's tough though and I doubt I'll ever be able to do either w/o all they way through as intended. And that's why I'm so thankful for the premixes. ;)

I did not like Kelly's kickbox-step workouts. The workout was ok, there was just something I didn't like about the whole set-up. Her background exerciser is very distracting to me and I seem to focus on her as opposed to Kelly. I also didn't click with Kelly herself. However, many people here do like it.

I do like most of Amy's workouts. I really like In The Ring and Rumble. Both are kickbox workouts. I think ITR is tougher than Rumble but it is definitely doable. I do not click with her hi/lo workouts. They take up a lot of room and there never seems to be a break! She is jumping around from the first minute to the last! Her step workouts are VERY good but also very complex. I have never been able to put any in and "get it" first try. There are a lot of "torquey" moves in her step workouts so if you have any knee issues you might have to modify.

As someone recommended, if you have $50 to spend, get at least one of each and see what you think.

Cardio:
I dont like dancy/choreo-intense cardio any more. So I havent tried Amy's cardio except Rubmle.

I love Kelly's Step Boxing 2 and Amy's Rumble. Kelly's is a fast paced, super-charged workout with superb transations from step to boxing. Rumble is more slow paced but can be intense in my opinion, because working slow lets you squat deep, kick and punch precisely and with good form. Both have great music.

Personality wise both manage to be professional and pleasing.

Strength:
Are you looking only for cardio workouts?

Kelly's 30 Minutes to Strength and NYC are two of my favorites for resistance training of the recent resistance training releases. Amy's Slo-Mo is very good too. Very innovative and effective. Except you need a strong lo-back to do some of her lower body work without modifying (the barbell holds she uses can strain your low back if you dont have the core strength). Of the lot I pick 30 Minutes Weights. It is a versatile DVD with so many active rest options between weight work (cardio, floor abs, standing abs) and great premixes. But the other two are strong contenders.

Kelly is doing a presale now of two upcoming workouts - a 30 minuts Kick Box and another 30 minutes bootcamp. The clips (she invited people at her forum to join a trial of the workout and put up clips from the trial at her forum) can be seen from her forum. Both DVDs will have two 30 minute workouts and a one hour premix version. I have pre-ordered both.

I am trying to find her website, but I am having no luck. All I get it's singer with the same name. Do you have a link to her website?

Hi luprisi,

The link to the kickbox live class trial :

The link to the live class trial for the new bootcamp video:

The music in those clips isnt the music she will be using in the final workouts though.

The link to Kelly's Forum is in the black bar that runs across the screen of her home page. Here is a direct link:

i tried some kelly but just didn't click. i am not sure if her newer releases were better. i tried her earlier stuff through netflix! i didn't care for the step boxing b/c i just couldn't keep up with her cues and the circuit workout i tried was good but i just didn't click with her in the workout. although i would recommend giving netflix a shot. i found it to be a great deal.

of course i love amy. i tried her stuff through netflix as well. and wound up getting almost everything she had. i don't like the step though. i have to say its to complicated for me and she just doesn't cue that well IMO. i usually stick with cathe for that. but i love amy's other works esp. the hi-lo. she has some great upbeat music that really makes it fly. her earlier stuff is very low budget and has a bit of "whooping" in it but i still love the routines. she gets progressively better the more works she puts out and she is generous with her customers who pre-order as well as helpful with any questions.

i believe somebody mention both are at deepdiscount.com but i also recommend advancedworkouts.com she also is under D & E advanced workouts at amazon. she offers free shipping on orders over $25 IIRC and usually has sales and deals for opened workouts. i got plenty this way without issue and she is also a great person to work with.

I love Amy's KBX and ITR, as well as ASC 2 and ASC3. I've tried a KCF step workout, and I found the choreography to be boring and her style not quite in tune with mine. I gave her another try with one of her kickbox/step workouts, and I could NOT get past the way she pronounces "jab" as "jyab". It was just entirely too annoying, and distracted me so much that I couldn't tell if I liked the actual workout or not. Jyab, jyab, jyab. Ugh.

If you have netflix, both instructors are availble, so you can try before you buy :)

Have you looked at clips of their workouts on www.collagevideo.com ?
That will give you a better idea of their styles and personalities before you decide to try them out.

Personality-wise, I like both of them, though Amy is a bit more personable.

Choreo-wise, I prefer Kelly, because I am no lover of choreo that I have to work on over several sessions to get.

Both of them have problems with cuing, but Kelly's choreo is easy to pick up just by watching, whereas Amy's isn't.

Is it me, or is Vee pretty much the reference librarian on fitness vids? ;)

Beavs, I am the reference librarian on electronic gadgets AND fitness vids. How could you forget about the gadgets? :D

Actually, I am sooo not a good source of fitness vid info. I have a few favorite instructors and pretty much stick to them. Except yoga. I try a lot of different yoga.

One of Amy Bento's workouts you don't hear much buzz about, but that I really like for its cardio intervals is her "A-Team Boot Camp". The structure is a lot like a fusion of Drill Max and the original Boot Camp: 6 simple but highly intense cardio intervals, 2:00 each, each of which is followed by leg training and then core / upper body training. Just the fact that the cardio intervals go on for 2:00 rather than 1:00 or 1:30 have really pushed me. The first and last drills utilize the step, but these drills are the essence of NOT complex choreography.

Because it's one of her earlier releases you can probably get it for somewhat less than newer ones. I think I got mine through Advanced Workouts; I'm sure there are other vendors for it if you're in the mood.
