alternating cardio and weights

do the majority of you all alternate days of cardio and weight or do you double up and do both on the same day? if you've done both ways, did you notice a difference in one way vs. the other (energy levels, results, etc)

I've tried both ways... mainly because I'm obsessive over making sure my workouts last a certain amount of time (1 hr 10 3 days a week, 1hr 30 4 days a week), so I'd just tag cardio onto the end. The guilt was definitely less, but I decided that it was not being productive. I much prefer now to do weights on seperate days, if I want to make the workout longer, I'll just add on abs. I have seen my muscles develop much better doing it this way :)

Hope this helps
:)

I try to alternate weights and cardio, but most days I just listen to my body. If I feel like weights two days in a row then weights it is. If I feel like cardio three days in a row then I go with cardio. As long as I get some form of exercise everyday then i'm happy :)

I alternate them.
mon, wed and fri sts strength
tues thurs cardio yoga and pilates
sat and sun cardio w/ light weights (circuit type w/o's)
autumn

Usually

I used to, but then when I got the STS Cardio, I did one of the MMA tapes and I didn't feel like I really got my butt kicked so I tacked on the Hiit double wave. THAT did it for me!

Hi-

For me, I like to do both every day, or otherwise I don't feel like I've worked out.
If I'm short on time, I'll just cut down how long I do both.

Admittedly, I love the endorphin buzz from cardio so if I don't get my "fix" I'm just not right! :)

However, if I absolutely can't do both, I'll pick cardio, even though I adore strength training. ( Just feel better mentally and physically if I can get the blood pumping and a good sweat working.)

Take care, Lynn M.

I also alternate my weight days and cardio days! I don't think I could ever do both back to back and I'm not a morning person or I'd do cardio every day in the morning and weights 3 days a week at night!

I prefer them together, usually circuit style. If I do weights alone, I don't feel like I've gotten a good workout in. However, I also KNOW that my body needs at LEAST 4 days with 30 minutes of cardio each week to maintain. I've learned that by trial and error, so I stick to that format in some way.
I also include leg weight workouts as cardio days, since they send my heartrate soaring.

My 5th day is a freebie, whatever I feel like doing or want to hit harder that week.

i feel the same way. even though i work super hard when i lift, i don't feel like i've done enough unless i do some cardio even if its onl 20 min worth. what type of circuits are you doing?

I do both in a day everyday.

Cardio in the mornings after dropping my son off at school and Strength training before Dinner.

Before shower (before bed) I do yoga or pilates.

i'm noticing a pattern for me. first, i don't have an attention span of more then 60 min of any type of workout and second, i end up way overeating when i do strength and cardio on the same day. i keep thinking more is better so often times i tack on 30 min of cardio after lifting but then i end up eating way too much so i think i'm going to recommit to doing alternating days. it seems like my diet is easier to control this way.

some days i do both in one day but i break up my workouts over 2-3 times a day. maybe doing 30-50 min in the morning, then 30-40 min in the afternoon and some yoga/stretching in the evening.

on days i do both i just do a lower intense/impact cardio. something like a steady state jog at about 4-4.5,elliptical with no resistance, or dancey workouts.

when i am not working(on my feet) i am usually sitting so i try to get some sort of cardio in everyday even if its low intensity. just trying to keep it moving.

you know I if I work out really hard its almost impossible to lose fat. It seems like I cant control my diet or my body doesnt want to give the fat up or something. So now I am only working out 3 or 4 days a week and tightening up my diet. Lets see what happens.

this is what i'm trying to do

I usually either alternate days, or do a "cardio and weights" workout (not two different workouts-- one cardio, one weights--unless they are both short, like 30 minutes each).

I lost 20 pounds and looked really lean doing mostly Jari Ext 1000, Jari 1000, Jari Core, Cathe Bootcamp/ME and the Squeezes 5-6 days per week. Then, I got into alternating Cathe Gym Styles/Slow and Heavy with cardio (rebounder and kickboxing) days. I got really hungry, and gained weight (both fat and muscle). I also experienced more doms and joint pains. So, I guess the best workouts for me are muscle endurance circuit style workouts. But, I'm still experimenting.

BTW, I'm 5'7" and pear shaped. My weight fluctuates: I've been as high as 158 and as low as 132 lbs.
