Alpha Omega Check-In - JULY 2009

christine, i looked at slim in six and it sounds like "the Firm". cardio w/sculpting. been doing it for 20 yrs. i have so many workouts, don't know if i could start a whole new collection. and, i think some of mine is my age. menopause and all that garbage.:(

Cathy, how is your headache? Migraines are the worst!! I used to get them when I was younger. I hope you feel better!

You know I've read lots of reviews on Slim in 6/Slim Series where people have compared it to "The Firm". I had some Firm VHS tapes yeeeeaaaars ago (10 yrs??) but they were mostly step and I remember one video called "Jiggle Free Abs", ha! I didn't really like the workouts though at that time. I still have my transfirmer (is that what it's called?) that I use when I do Cathe High Step workouts because I don't have a high step, but the two part Transfirmer (??) gets really high!

I just looked on their website and they call it "Synergy Training". That's funny because Beachbody calls it "Slim Training", LOL :p Oh the buzz terms companies use to generate interest! Well, I'm sorry it's nothing new for you. Whatever it is, it really works for me!! Maybe I should look into FIRM workouts too!!?? :D

ETA: Nevermind, I just looked at some of the video clips on their site, I don't think I'd like it (just like 10 yrs ago apparently!) :p

Hello Ladies,

Cathy, How are you feeling? Hope you are over your migraine. I get them too, definitely not fun. Sometimes I'll try to push through them when I really want to workout, and usually it does not end pretty, lol.

Hello Christine. How's the running thread going? Are they nice to you over there, like we are here? LOL. I'm just teasing, I'm sure they are :) So, this workout you've been doing, is that part of the Slim in 6 package, or is that an add on. I really want to try out SI6. I'm kind of looking at my workouts at the gym as being up that alley. I am still enjoying my rotation free freedom, so anytime I think of starting my next planned rotation, (CLX), I get that dread factor. I guess I still need more of a break :)

Hey Jen, how are you? How's work and class going?

Today's workout at the gym was good, except the class was packed, and I barely had room to side kick. That can be a little annoying. We did 30 minutes of KB and 30 minutes of sculpting and ab & butt work at the end. I'm liking this class, but I'm worried it will start to feel too easy. I guess we'll see, maybe the instructor will continue to switch things up. I noticed today she did a little different routine, so I'm hopeful she won't be like Thursday's instructor, who keeps doing the same routine week after week, after week, lol.

Ladies have a great night. Chat more tomorrow :)

Hello All.
Stopping by to say Hello. Hope the migraine is doing better, Cathy. Christine, Slim 6 like The Firm, I just got rid of those last summer. Iris, work is the same, school is great. It's amazing that Stress Weight is an actual medical diagnosis on WebMD so is pediatric insomnia. Schwan dude never made it tonight so I went online to get an update, Saturday at midnight.

Have a Blessed night.

Jen

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." (1 Corinthians 10:31)

Jen, glad to hear things are going great with school! I think I still have my old FIRMS on VHS somewhere, but I rarely used them because I remember not liking them.

Iris, the running thread is small right now. There are only 3 of us and the ladies are nice. I'm hoping more join so I can get some more tips and advice on running! I guess time will tell if it lasts!

Sounds like you do need some more time before following a rotation. I would stick with what you're doing now. If you force anything upon yourself you may start dreading your workouts! The workouts I'm doing now are separate from Slim in 6. It's the advanced follow-up series called "Slim Series". There are 6 different DVDs with this program. They follow the same exact concept but are more intense and longer. Four of them are 60 minutes and two are 78 minutes. I own 5 out of the 6. I didn't get one of the two DVDs that is 78 minutes long. I don't like the length and it got "so-so" reviews. I'm happy with the other 5 for now!

Bummer that your KB class was packed! You definitely need room to do those side kicks! I'm glad you're liking the new instructor though! And yes, the format you're following right now is similar to SI6. Although there is no "separate" cardio in the program. She does do some light jogging and jump jacks, but 95% of the "cardio" factor comes from the constant lunges/squats/weight work. It leaves me breathless sometimes! :)

Cathy, how are you feeling today? Maybe your headache was "Cardio Fusion" induced!! I know that some days, if I don't drink enough and do intense cardio, I will get a headache by the end of the day! I hope you are feeling better today.

Today's workout was my C25K run plus "Cool it Off". This is the 60 minute stretching/strengthening/stabilization DVD. I thought about pushing myself and doing another workout, but decided against it. (I kept hearing Iris say "take the relaxed approach! :p) Today my whole body is so sore, especially my legs and butt!! I skipped over most of the stabilization moves (with the exception of one or two for the knees) and just did the stretching, so it wasn't quite an hour. She does about 3-4 different stretches for the hamstrings/quads/glutes & hips, and she holds the stretches for 30-45-60 seconds. I love it!!! It was exactly what I needed today!! She also stretches the upper body and neck very thoroughly. This one is a keeper for an awesome stretch!

Have a blessed day ladies! :D

Hello,

This week is going by soo fast, not that I'm complaining :)

I decided to take a rest day today. I'm thinking 2 rest days per week would be good for now. Also, I was being vain, I'll confess, lol. My daughter blew my hair out soo nicely yesterday, I thought I'd keep it for one more day. Although it may not look, as good tomorrow, lol.

Cathy are you over your migraine? I know for some people they can last for days.

Hi Christine. I'm proud of you for not pushing yourself too hard, lol. I think the relaxed approach will work much better for you this time around, lol. Can you tell I'm on relaxed approach mode? It seems to be working for me. I think I needed a little bit of a break.

Hi Jen, how are you?

Just wanted to share, one of my co-workers (Jennifer) is going through a tough time right now. Her mom who is only about 50 years old, has battled cancer for a couple of years now. She just got the results of per pet scan today, and her cancer is back with a vengeance. It has spread to various parts, including her liver and lymph nodes. Jen is very distraught with this news, and things are really not looking good for her mom :( Please keep her in your prayers, and pray that I can be there for her in this tough time. Sometimes it's hard to know what to say to people when they are faced with this type of situation. It's soo heart-breaking.

Have a great night. Chat more tomorrow.

Wow, we are finishing page 9 for July. My vacation starts August3 through the 7th. Excited to work on the house that week plus see old friends.

hi all, sorry, been busy all day. thanks for the well wishes. the migraine went away last nite. thank the LORD, i have not had one that goes on over a day. but, i do take maxalt. and sometimes, it works quickly, other times, not so quickly, and on rare occasion it doesn't work, which is rather painful.

christine, i really do like the firm, istarted w/them 20yrs. ago and they are what i did for years, andi still do them. i like them. no, they are not as hard as cathe, what is??:) but, there are many days i cannot do a cathe,so they are perfect for me. and some of them are hard. the new "500 calorie" is pretty hard. well, it is hard for me. and "dangerous curves ahead" is pretty tough. some of the old, old ones are really hard. the weight ones that tracie long did are super tough. anyway, i like 'em.

anyway, i did disc 14 today, (legs), and then i had energy to do 4-day split LIS, that one is sooo fun. don't know how i had so much energy today after feeling so bad yesterday. just doesn't make sense, but i have days like that.

not sure what tomorrow is yet. been busy w/grandkids today! love 'em, they're so fun!

"See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him." (1 John 3:1)

Cathy, glad to hear you're feeling better! :) I love 4DS LIS! I haven't done that one in a while, but it is so much fun. To be fair to the FIRM, I actually haven't done (or seen -other than the clips on their website-) any of their videos since about 10 yrs ago, so if I tried a more recent workout today, I might like them!

Jen, awesome that you have vacation to look forward to! Are you off from work AND school at that time?

Iris, you're not vain for enjoying a nice blow-out! How nice of your daughter to do that for you. :) How did it come out today? I think you'll really enjoy taking 2 rest days per week! Your exercise approach is really good right now, doing the workouts you enjoy and taking the rest you need! This will be great for your body AND mind! I'm so sorry to hear about your co-worker's mother, how heart breaking. I will certainly keep her in prayer. I know it's hard when you don't know what to say so I'll pray for you too.

Today's workout was "Shape it Up". This one is 78 minutes so I wanted to do it on a day I wasn't going to run. I see some parts I can omit next time to make it shorter if I'd like. But again, it was a total body workout with light weights but this one worked opposing muscle groups. So I did chest/back, biceps/triceps, shoulder, hamstrings/quads, etc. It had four standing ab segments, which I LOVE, and a killer floorwork segment for the legs & abs. I finished it off with a strech from Slim & Limber.

I am going to meet a friend of mine from church for lunch that I haven't seen in a while, I'm looking forward to seeing her today.

Have a blessed day! :D

Cathy, glad to hear you're feeling better. I have the 4DS series, but I only really do the Bootcamp & kickboxing DVD. For some reason, I find step workouts difficult to master, if they are not pretty basic. My favorite step workout of Cathe's is LIC from the previous series. I should get back to previewing it and see if I can master it, lol. Enjoy your time with your grandchildren. I got to spend time with my grandson today too. I haven't been seeing him as much as I used to, and was really missing him :) He is talking up a storm now. I couldn't believe it, lol.

Hi Christine, your workout sounds awesome. I LOVE standing ab work :) My hair was ok today. Definitely did not look as good as it did yesterday, but better than when I do it myself. My daughter is very good with hair. The only thing I hate is that she uses soo much gel. I feel intoxicated with the fumes while she does my hair. When she does her own, we all feel like we can barely breath, lol. My poor husband with 2 women in the house, lol.

Hi Jen. I'm jealous about your upcoming vacation, lol. I already need another one.

I had a great workout today at the gym. Thursday's instructor is finally switching up her routine. She did another 30/30 class today, and I really enjoyed this one. We did 30 minutes of Kickboxing, and then we did 30 minutes of strength & ab work. We did lunges using a body bar and something I don't do often, triceps & bicep work using tubing instead of weights. It's amazing how tubing can be harder than dumbbells sometimes.

I think I'll take tomorrow's total body sculpting class. I like that the class starts at 5:30, so I can get it done right after work.

Have a great night everyone.

Hello Friends,
In less than two weeks, I am only off from work and not school. It's week 6 of marketing that week so I am happy to have the extra time for myself since school will keep me busy. Thank you for your prayers concerning my friend, we have not reconciled and I don't see it happening. She didn't like the fact I called the police on the guy that was stalking someone I knew because she thinks he needs help. He's gotten so much help over the years that he has been enabled in all areas. She may have been attracted to him. HE released me from the stress of this a few days ago.
Well, Have a Blessed Weekend.

Jen

"The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry" (Psalm 34:15)

Hi Jen, it's great that you get a nice break from work coming up! Any plans? I'm sorry about the situation with your friend, but how gracious of the Lord to release you from any further worries concerning that matter!

Hi Iris! Hooray, I'm glad you had a nice KB class last night! :) So she finally switched things up!? I agree with you about working out with tubing, it really gives you a different kind of challenge and burn! It IS harder than dumbells sometimes!! Have fun total body sculpting tonight!

Hi Cathy! Any workouts today? How nice that you get to spend so much time with your grandchildren! I hope the weather has not been so hot for you.

Today's workout was "Keep it Up" followed by "Slim & Limber". This DVD comes after Slim in 6, but before Slim Series. Debbie Siebers created it as a maintenance workout to do after you complete Slim in 6, but before you begin Slim Series. I really liked this workout, especially since it was only 40 minutes! It had the same feel & intensity as the advanced workout from Slim in 6 called "Burn it Up". I really liked the punch it packed in such a short time. I may or may not run later on. It's hot out so I may just walk or stay in for the rest of the day!

I went to the shelter this morning and had a really nice time. The cats there are so darn cute and loveable. I love spending time with them. Then when I come home, my own pets go nuts smelling my clothes, ha ha.

TGIF everyone! Have a great weekend! :)

Checking in again to post that I got my run in this afternoon. I don't think I'll ever do that again in the afternoon on a day so humid, but I got it done! I'm officially done with Week 2 of the C25K now! I'm scared because the longest I've run on the program is 90 seconds and next week it goes up to 3 minutes!! We'll see next week how I do, Lord willing....! :)

Hello Everyone,

TGIF, this has been a pretty hectic week. I'm glad I can sleep in a bit tomorrow :)

Christine, I can't believe you've already completed 2 weeks of C25K. I think you'll be fine next week :)

For my workout today, I took the Total Body Conditioning class at the gym. We did so much outer and inner thigh work that I could barely walk out of the class when we were done, lol. We'll see how I feel tomorrow :)

Hello Cathy & Jen. I hope you are both having a good day.

Goodnight everyone.

hey everyone, i can't remember if i checked in yesterday. it has been busy. yesterday i did the firm's maximum cardio burn, then went riding in the evening for about 4 hrs. today, was outside at 8 & we rode all morning, then played outside this afternoon. so, no workout today, tomorrow is gonna be disc 15, then to my son's house to swim with the grandkids. ya'll have a great weekend!

Hello Friends.
It's Saturday and I already posted at school. The paper is coming along well. My friend left a message and I may call her back this weekend, not sure how it will go though. One thing after another lately. Thinking positive for the weekend and for life!
Hope you all have a Blessed day!! Friday was my home pc break for the week.

Hello,

It's soo beautiful in NJ today. A nice beach day, which my daughter was lucky enough to get invited to by our neighbors, while I'm stuck home, lol. Oh well, at least one of us gets to enjoy it.

I just got done with my workout, and am going to shower now and head outside for some relaxation. My workout was another Taebo oldie - Live Advanced 2.

Jen, sounds like you've had a productive day so far :) Keep thinking positive :)

Hello Cathy & Christine. I hope you are both having a great day :)
