Alpha Omega Check-In - JULY 2009

"Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand." (Romans 5:1)

Iris, hope you get to have some relaxation! My husband and I like to sit outside sometimes and just listen to the birds and watch the wind blow through the trees. It's so peaceful! Don't be too bummed about missing out on the beach, it's sooo humid today! :p (At least that's how it feels in NY) How do your legs feel today after last night's class?? I love floorwork that kills my legs! :)

Jen, good for you that you got your homework done early, now you can enjoy the rest of your weekend! Good luck speaking with your friend when/if you do.

Cathy, how was STS today? Sounds like you've been having a nice time outdoors. Have fun swimming today!

I did SS "Cool it Off" this morning, the 60 minute stretch video. I just love this one. My muscles felt so nice and relaxed after I was done. I really needed it, I've been so sore!

My husband and I have been working on the dining room today. We just primed the ceiling and will do the walls in a little while. We are so close to painting now I can taste it!! :D

Blessings! :)

Hello Friends.
Did some studying and lots of organizing by getting rid of papers. Some in the shred pile and a lot in the recycle pile, two trips to the bins. Printed up some homes to see tomorrow after worship in the other city plus a business where I sent my resume. Things are slow at work plus a change of leadership coming up, I have faith in HIM that HE will provide for me. Have a Blessed Night.

Jen

hi all, did disc 15 & 4-day split HIS, cardio only. i love both of those. HIS definitely has some difficult steps, but really fun when you finally get them.

then went and swam w/the grankids for awhile and we met papa for dinner. had fun!
have a blessed LORD'S day.

Hi Ladies,

Boy am I feeling tired. I worked out today, to another Taebo workout, Cardio Circuit 2. It's a good effective workout without making me feel like I'm going to die, lol. This week, I'll be on flexible workout mode again, but I'm starting to feel the itch for doing another strength training rotation, so when I get back from the farmers market, I'm going to once again start previewing CLX, and I may be starting it next week :)

Jen, you have my prayers for your work situation, as well as your home leads and new employment opportunities :)

Christine, how's the dining room coming? Or did you take today off? It is Sunday after all, lol.

Cathy, yesterday was the one day where if I had put my pool up this year, I would have definitely gone for a little swim. It was beautiful here, nice & sunny. I don't feel like we've had much of a summer here, since it has rained an awful lot. I can't believe I've yet to water my garden since I planted my flowers in late May. It seems the ground is always wet. I guess I can't complain about not having to water it. That's definitely a plus.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone :)

"For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come." (1 Timothy 4:8)

I posted the above scripture today because I have been in exercise ADD mode for the past several weeks. I jump around in my mind from one program to the next, wondering what will satisfy me!?? I did so well and was so disciplined with Slim in 6, I'm not sure why I feel this way!?

Okay, what THAT said.....

IRIS!!!! I just purchased CLX!!! I can't believe it! I didn't think it would interest me since it involves heavy lifting. I honestly don't know what lead me to buy it, but I was reading reviews, adore Chalene, and love the fact that the workouts are only 30-40 minutes. This may work very well with my running schedule because I did read that most people needed to add some extra cardio to this program. Do you want to start it together?? The only thing is, I won't get it until next week and I know you wanted to start it next week. That's okay, I'll only be a week or so behind you and we can discuss the workouts! Wow, 90 days is a scarey committment. I couldn't do it with P90X, but I have a feeling Chalean will make it fun! Can you tell I'm excited!? :D

About the dining room, we primed the ceiling and walls last night. My hubby is just working on another problem with my FIL's car right now. After that we will all go out to lunch and then it's back home to paint!! Hooray!!

Jen, how was house-hunting today? Oooh, I love organizing and getting rid of stuff! Clutter makes me anxious!

Cathy, sounds like another nice weekend with your grandkids! I love the 4DS cardio!

No workouts today, just relaxation. Okay, I seriously need prayer over this exercise stuff. I tend to obsess too much, can you tell!!? ;) Thanks ladies!

Have a blessed day!

Christine, I actually had to go and read the passage you quoted. Isn't it amazing that the bible covers everything? I will ponder that scripture throughout the day :)

I tend to obsess about my workouts too. I just haven't been lately, but as you can see, I'm starting to think about it again, lol. That's soo funny that you ended up ordering CLX. It would be great to do the rotation together. I may not be ready to start it next week, so timing may be really good. I want to preview the first few workouts again, and get an idea about cardio. I think there are two cardio workouts in the series, as well as an ab workout. I really need to take a look at them again. I think you'll like Chalean's personality in this series. She still wears the craziest clothes in some of the videos. At least one that I can think of, is way out there, lol. But that's Chalean, lol.

I just got back from the Farmer's Market a little while ago, and people can be soo rude! I had a lady practically throwing her shopping cart on me, like I wasn't even there. I know I'm short, but geez, lol. I had a basket in my hand and she acted like she had no clue I was in line. I finally had to switch my basket to my right hand so she could SEE, I was in line, and had items in my hand. Ok, I'm done complaining now, lol.

Hello Friends.
About one week ago, I posted for a position that I will be qualified for once I graduate or once I take the classes. I sense some great things about this, the only issue is that the commute will be longer for awhile. Got rid of paper that can be reused for home products, a ton of it. Next week and vacation, it will be shredding and working on some home issues like recementing in the basement and some painting.
Please keep the job hunt and home hunt in prayer. I believe I seen my future home today. Thanks.

Jen

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” (Hebrews 12:1)

Hi Jen, I'm keeping your life changes in prayer! Sounds like you have your plans laid out for vacation! It will be here before you know it!

Hi Iris! Yes, the Bible certainly does cover just about everything! I saw a cute picture on a website once that said "JESUS: My ultimate personal trainer" and yesterdays scripture was quoted beneath that. I know each line of scripture is supposed to be interpreted in the context in which it's said though, so I'd really have to study that chapter to gather exactly why Timothy said that. I like how it has been applied to training in your spiritual life and how that's more important than all other things! Interestingly, here is the King James Version:

"For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come."

I'm so excited to get CLX! I hope I get it this week so I have time to read through the manuals and preview before I start. Are there recovery weeks like with P90X? I saw a post of her rotation on-line and it seems she moves from one phase to the next with no breaks. I got the "deluxe" version, so think it comes with extra cardio. Is that what you have? They say it's HIIT type work so I'm excited about that, I haven't done that in a long time! Ha, I'm not surprised about her crazy outfits! At least I am prepared for them! LOL :p It will be awesome if we can start together, then we can motivate each other to finish the 90 days!

Sorry about your experience at the farmer's market! Yes, people CAN be so rude!! I find that it makes me angry when that happens, so I have to start praying, lol.

Cathy, how was your weekend? How was your Lord's day? I have to admit that I've been bad about keeping that day for rest. I feel convicted about it! I'm doing a Bible study now on 1 Thessalonians (Kay Arthur study) and we're studying "Work and the Christian" this week, so I'm reminded about our 6 days of work, 1 day of rest for the Lord!

Have a blessed day ladies!

My prior post was pretty long, so I'm posting my workout separate! :p

Today was my first run of Week 3. I made it through two 3 minute runs!! I didn't think I could but decided I wasn't going to tell myself that because if I thought that way, then I probably wouldn't make it. I started running and actually felt like I could go on forever! I ran 90 seconds, recovered 1 minute, then ran 3 minutes and recovered 3 minutes and then repeated that cycle. I feel so good about it!! I'm also going to do one of the Slim Series workouts later on, just not sure which one yet.

Me again!! :p

No other workouts for me today (besides my run). I had a nice afternoon with my grandma. We had lunch together at Panera Bread (my new favorite place to eat!!), then we went grocery shopping. It was a nice afternoon. I had (and still have) tons of stuff to get done before my husband comes home from work. Hope everyone had a great day!

Iris, my order shipped today and is estimated to arrive on 8/3 (which is next Monday), so I'm hoping it comes before then. If not, I will still start at some point next week so we can be on schedule! :) I think this is going to work perfect with my runs. I just don't have it in me to workout beyond 30-45 minutes anymore, especially on the days I run!

Hi Christine,

I didn't get the Deluxe set. Let me know when you get yours what I'm missing. I was previewing the workouts again yesterday, and am finally getting excited about starting it. Most of the exercises are compound exercises, which I am generally not crazy about, but lately, I have been appreciating the cardio effect I get from the workouts. To me it just seems like more bang for my time, lol. I still want to continue with a couple of classes at the gym, because I've been enjoying the switch-up, but since most of them have now become 30/30 classes, I will make sure I keep the weights low, so I don't defeat the purpose of CLX.

A lot of people have complained that the cardio in CLX is really not enough, but from what I viewed, I think they are actually pretty good. There are a couple where she actually does segments of sculpting thrown in with the cardio. These are Muscle Endurance type workouts. Chalean says to keep weights low, not to go over 5 lbs. The purpose is to increase the cardio effect and endurance, but it's different from what you are doing with the regular weight-lifting workouts. Some of the excercises seem a little awkward, and I'll have to make sure if my body complains, that I listen and modify, but for the most part, the workouts seem pretty good.

Glad to hear your run went better than you expected :) I knew you could do it. It's soo nice that you got to spend time with your grandma. You are such a good grandaughter :)

My day at work is almost over. Not a bad day here today. I'll be heading to the gym this evening for the 30/30 class. I need a good workout today :)

Check in again later :)

Great day at work and now at home, sensing positive changes in my life only gifts from HIM. Ready to rock!!

Jen, good for you and your positive outlook! All good gifts are from Him! :) I'm glad you had a great day!!

Iris, the Deluxe DVD comes with three workouts "Fat Burn Challenge", "Get Lean Intervals", and "I've Got Abs". Do you have those? I'm not too crazy about compound moves myself but, like you, love the cardio effect! It also helps with leaning out. I think you'll be fine with your 30/30 classes and CLX. Like you said, and from what I've read so far, Chalene has those endurance type workouts in between the heavy weight work anyway. I really like that idea. This is so unique and different from any way I've ever trained, like SI6 was. I'm excited to see how this goes! I think people were complaining about how she only had 2 cardio workouts per week. They do sound pretty tough, but I read that a lot of people added their own cardio on the weight days. I'll be doing my weight days on the days I run, so that will be my added bonus! I'm most excited about getting my workouts done in 30-40 minutes!!

I'm glad you had a nice day at work! Hope you enjoyed your 30/30 tonight!

Cathy, I hope all is well with you today! :)

My hubby just finished painting our dining room and it looks a little, um... DARKER than we expected!! Why is it that the paint never looks the same on the walls as it does on the cans or on swatches?? I'm staying positive though because the paint hasn't dried yet. I'll let you know more details tomorrow, LOL.

Have a great night my friends!

Hello Ladies,

Jen, I'm soo happy to read your upbeat post. Glad to hear you had a nice day :)

Christine, I forgot to answer your question about rest weeks. That is soo funny you asked that, because I was just going through a rotation someone had emailed me from the VFF forums, and no where on it is there any type of rest. I have to say, these workouts are completely different, from say STS, so I think in STS the rests are needed, but CLX, like you said the workouts are much shorter, and there are not nearly as many reps as anything Cathe does. I'm guessing that's why the rest weeks are not necessary. We'll see once we get going, lol. The set I have does have the workouts you just mentioned. I think I have a total of 7 dvd's. I guess I do have the Deluxe :)

Cathy, I hope things are going well with you :)

30/30 class was good. Class was packed again. To packed for a step class that's for sure, and one of the women taking the class for the first time, took a fall off her step. Everyone stopped for a few minutes, and then it was back to work, while the poor woman sat on her step with a water bottle on her leg as an ice pack. I told my husband about it, and he couldn't believe the gym is not prepared for emergencies. I am soo tired now. Before I left for the class, I did some chest presses & flies with 15's and also Bicep & Hammer curls with 15's. I just feel like the weight work in the 30/30 classes is not enough of a workout for me, so I needed a little bonus, lol.

Have a great night ladies :)

hi ya'll, well, i did disc 16 this am. i really like the back-off sets. then i did cardio from 4-day LIS again, love that workout. i did the last section 2x, the one where you do all 3 step combos. then , i worked this afternoon. i am really tired. cardio for me tomorrow.
have fun, cathy

Hello Everyone.
Tired today, my cats kept me up for most of the early morning, got to love them. 4 more days until vacation starts.

Have a Blessed Day.
Jen

"The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song." (Psalm 28:7)

Jen, sorry you didn't get much sleep, but yes you got to love your cats! Mine are famous for thinking it's play time during bed time, LOL.

Cathy, what is the "back-off set" from STS? What are your cardio plans for the day?

Iris, I'm glad you have the deluxe DVD! I forget if you mentioned this already but does your class at the gym have a minimum capacity for the room? It sounds like they really should, especially since that poor woman got hurt last night!

Okay, the dining room is lighter this morning and we love it! I can't wait to have all the new light switches, trim work and chandelier up to complete the room! My husband didn't want to go to work today, he just wanted to stay home and work on the room, LOL. I wish he COULD stay home and work on it! :)

My workout today was Turbo Jam Cardio Party. I was in the mood for some fun cardio and that got the job done!

Have a great day everyone!

Please pray that I get an interview with a healthcare facility, I sense that they are taking my resume quite seriously. The job posted about 5 months ago, I rewrote my resume and applied. They may consider me for another position too.
Thanks.

howdy, i did "Better Burn, Better Buns" (tracie long). kind of an interval, functional, med. ball workout. good workout. i love tracie's workouts.

christine, have you not done STS? back-off is ,say for instance, you do 3 sets of barbell row @ 75%, then on the 4th set you go down, i think 40%. cathe says becuz you have done 3 sets of heavy, then you immediately do the 4th set lighter, you're muscles are ready for the heavy weight and work as if you're doing the heavy weight. i think that is the way it is. i love them.

is that an accurate discription ya'll?

i think i have asked this, but anyone here done tracie long's workouts?
cathy

Hello Ladies,

Looks like I never posted last night. I had a busy night yesterday.

Jen, I'll be praying for your job prospect :)

Cathy, I've never done any workouts by Tracie Long. I have to look her up. How are her workouts? That was a great description you gave on back-off sets, lol.

Hi Christine, how's it going today? Did you get to complete the dining room project? Paint is funny like that. One thing that drives me nuts is that the paint never looks like the sample once you get it on the wall.

My workout class yesterday - Box/Sculpt was a lot of fun. I like that this instructor changes things up all the time. I aclamate to a workout very quickly and if the instructor keeps doing the same routine, I don't feel challenged anymore. Today, I will probably be doing some cardio at home, but still can't decide what to do. I'm leaning toward one I rarely do, "Cardio Force". I feel like something steppy, but simple, and this one seems to fit the bill.

Have a great day ladies. Will check in with you guys again tonight :)
