Alpha Omega Check-In - JULY 2009

TGIF!!! I sense big changes at work in the future. My team at school is awesome!! Three guys and one other gal. I wish I could adopt them all. Professional, kind and respectful.

Cathy, I'm glad to hear you do Aerobic weight training type workouts. I have to say, I think this change is good for me. Maybe my arms will lean out a bit, lol. It's good to hear also that Cathe's team responded soo promptly. I didn't realize the balls came in different colors. Maybe each size is a different color? I can't believe it was still 99 deg. there at 9PM. I can understand how it would get to you. It's finally been feeling like summer where I am. I like my summers to feel like summer, so while others have been content with the cool weather, I haven't been, lol. The weather we are having now is more my speed.

Thanks Christine, yes, that's my Florida tan. I'm still peeling, which isn't very pretty. I took a rest day today and went out to dinner with my husband and daughter. Nothing fancy, just Applebees. We were pressed for time, so that was about all we could squeeze in.

Jen, yes, TGIF. I'm glad you clicked soo well with your new team at school :) Hopefully the changes at work are positive? At least the weekend is here, so we can get a break from work :)

No real weekend plans here. What do you guys have planned?

I'm back to post my workout. It was "Muscle Endurance" for me today. Even though I've been getting some sculpting at the gym classes, I don't feel like it's enough, so today was about hitting every muscle.

It's a beautiful day here today. Nice and warm, but not too hot. We had some big thunderstorms here last night, and we were lucky we didn't loose power as did other areas. I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend :)

"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him." (1 John 5: 14-15)

Hi Iris! I love Muscle Endurance, it's such a thorough workout. At first I dreaded all the leg presses, but then I came to enjoy them! Do you have aloe vera lotion for your suntan? That can help with the peeling! We had those thunderstorms last night too! It was really loud! Mmmm, Applebees sounds good to me! :)

Hi Cathy! Thanks for sharing the pictures, they are so cute! Your grandchildren are adorable and look so happy! The horses are beautiful too!

Hi Jen! How is your weekend going? I'm glad you had a good team at school this time around, that really helps to get the homework done, huh?

No workouts for me this weekend. Just doing more work on the dining room (well, my hubby more than me now, lol :p)

I have to vent/share something. I am getting frustrated with my workouts because ever since I ended Slim in 6 and went back to Cathe workouts, my progress has stalled and I'm not as toned as before. I am also burned out, tired, and hungry all the time!!! I don't get it! I love Cathe and her workouts, there is so much variety and fun there, but for the past year (before Slim in 6) I tried losing/toning by using Cathe, and my weight/inches wouldn't budge! (?) I only saw results after Slim in Six. So I decided to start the Slim Series next week. I know I get results with this type of training so it only makes sense to go back to it, right? I really liked how things were going doing Turbo Jam too, so I will stick with these types of workouts for now and see how things go. It's just a bummer because I really have fun with Cathe, I just don't get it. *sigh* Thanks for listening! :)

hmmmm, i know how ya feel, christine, i work out HARD! and i have lost nothing for a long time. i am toned, but i want to be really sculpted, but i don't want to eat correctly to get as toned as i want. so, alas, whadda i do? and what is slim in six? i have heard people talk about it, but i don't have any idea what it is. i love cathe too, and the workouts are so hard, seems i should not have a problem. cuz i am very active on top of my workouts. i do need to clean up my eating some, but i am also 54, and think that may have something to do w/it. it is rignt around my middle. it just won't seem to shrink. it is discouraging.
i did LIC today, and tomorrow or monday i start meso 2.
have a blessed LORD's day.

and i think i put up some new pics if ya want to look. not sure if it worked.
cathy

Christine, I can certainly understand your frustration. One thing I am learning is that intense workouts don't necessarily add up to awesome results. I have found that the harder I workout sometimes, the less progress I see. For instance, the classes at the gym are easier than what I do at home, and yet I am seeing better results now than I have through all of my hard work at home. Including P90, and all of my Cathe workouts. I say go with what gives you the best results if results are what you're looking for. I go back and forth, between wanting to see results, and just wanting to do what I find enjoyable with no expectations. I don't know if that makes sense. I think SI6 worked really well for you. Maybe take a little more relaxed approach to it, so you don't dread it toward the end like you did the last time you did it :) I know toward the end of any rotation you can get to that burned out phase where you just want to get done so you can move on to something new. LOL, come to think of it, that's probably why I've yet to start CLX, I'm enjoying the freedom I have these days taking it day by day, lol.

Hi Cathy, I think Meso 2 was my favorite meso of STS. It seemed to have the most variety if I'm remembering correctly. Did you say this is your 2nd round of STS?

Jen, I hope you are enjoying the weekend. How's the weather in your neck of the woods?

Hello Sisters,
Tonight, I just got back from a party of an old classmate of mine from Detroit. Her sisters were there and I remember one of them. The weather is quite chilly here. My class is going well. Please email me privately for more information on stuff. Big bonfire tonight.
Iris, you are very pretty. Love the pic. How was the workout?
Christine, are you stating that slim six is better than Cathe?
I would like to lose about 30 pounds in my mid section and legs but working out will add extra hours to my day that is already packed. Any suggestions? I have a 10 min kickboxing workout by Keli Roberts to start with.

"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6)

Iris, I agree with you about how intense workouts don't necessarily give you great results. I had this problem before, where I think I was doing too much, or too much high intensity, and not having results. Freedom is a good word to use to describe not following any type of rotation! On one hand I like the structure, but on the other hand it does feel sort of like an obligation. The only time I ever worked out just to have fun with the few weeks after my SI6 rotation! Believe it or not, I was almost always striving for results, then I got them. But now I feel like I've gone backwards. So yes, I will start a relaxed approach to the Slim Series next week! Thanks for your input! :)

Cathy, Slim in 6 is a six week program created by Beachbody which uses the concept of what they call "Slim Training" (overtraining your muscles by working them everyday) to slim down your entire body. They're total body workouts with non-stop light cardio/resistance training using very high rep/low to no weights. There are 3 DVD's (beginner, intermediate & advanced) that you do everyday (6x per week) for the 6 weeks. I have the same problem with carrying weight in the middle and I tell ya, I never, and I mean NEVER, got my waist (or entire body) as toned as I did with this program -ever!!! It really did slim me all over, particularly in the waist, which made me very happy! I didn't take measurements but I went down 2 pant sizes and lost about 5lbs overall. I do eat well for the most part, but I do also indulge in my sweets/"junk" food in moderation. After that I did some Turbo Jam/Jillian Michaels (also endurance workouts) for the next few weeks and kept up with my results. It wasn't until I tried about 3 weeks of Cathe's Intensity Series that I started losing my gains. I just don't know why! How are you results this time around with STS?

Jen, I don't think that Slim in 6 is "better" than Cathe per se, it's just that I find that the Slim Training approach works better for me personally. Really the two are like apples and oranges so you can't compare. I think it just comes down to what gets your body to respond. Based on the results you are looking for, I would highly recommend the Slim in 6/Slim Series! You can do a search on the topic over at Video Fitness and you'll see how many people love this series, particularly for slimming the waist/lower body. But if Cathe works for you, go for her endurance based workouts and maybe you can use the premixes that give you a workout in less than an hour? Are you still walking? That is a great form of cardio too!

This morning my hubby and I are headed to the park. After that we have more housework to do and then my FIL is coming over for dinner. My hubby has to do some work on his car for him.

Thanks, I will look into it. A lot my weight that I have all has to do with stress. Most of my former co-workers all have dropped about 25 pounds within 3 months of leaving work.

Jen, stress can do terrible things to the body! I am not at all surprised about what happened with your co-workers. I've read up on how stress inhibits weight loss and even causes gain. It has to do with elevated cortisol levels. Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Hello Ladies,

It's soo beautiful today. I went to church with my daughter this morning, and came home motivated to get my workout done, so I could enjoy the outdoors.

My workout was an oldie Taebo Live Advanced 1. I'm finally getting back to my Taebo. Those are the workouts that got me on the road to fitness, but like everything, I get tired of them after a while, and need a break. I rarely do any taebo workouts these days, but am just getting back to them now :)

Christine, thanks for sharing the links on SI6. I think I would like to eventually try those. The concept sounds very interesting to me. Maybe this is why I seem to be having good results from doing soo many 30/30 type classes at the gym these days. How's the house work coming? You are inspiring me to get cracking on my house too. I need to paint and as my shoulder is getting better every day, I am hoping to tackle that project soon :)

Hi Jen. It's good to see you posting. Thank you for the compliment. For short workouts, you are in luck, because they are becoming much more in demand, and now you can find several good 10 minute type workouts. I have one by Amy Bento. I haven't done a whole lot in it, but from previewing, I can see, that even taking two of those 10 minute workouts, is enough to get you going. I also saw a good one on Collage that's all kickboxing. I want to get that one, as soon as I can find it cheaper. Collage's prices are not that cheap.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend ladies.

oh iris, can't wait til it cools down and we can enjoy being outside. 104 again today.
started meso 2, disc 13. good workout. sure wish i could lose a couple lbs. though, my hips just keep geting bigger, i just don't get it. i work so hard, and my hips get bigger. it stinks. ok, i'm done complaining.:)

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.” (1 John 1:7)

Hi Cathy! I hate to sound like an infomercial for Beachbody (ha! :p), but with the problem areas you mention I believe that Slim in 6 would be great for you!! I bet it will be unlike any other workout you've ever done (like it was for me) and will really shock your body and get you where you want to be. Feel free to shoosh me on the topic if I'm talking about it too much, I won't be offended, ha ha. I just really know from experience how this program slims you all over and especially in the waist/hips/legs. My arms got super toned too. Check out the link in my prior post and feel free to ask me any Q's if you're interested. It's a 6 week program that I incorporated with walking. I was burned out a little by the end because there are only 3 DVD workouts in the program that you're supposed to do 6x per week. You do the first DVD one week, the second DVD for the next 2 weeks, and the final DVD for the last 3 weeks, so I got a little antsy doing the same workout 5-6x per week for so many weeks. Some weeks I cheated and only did it 4x certain weeks but still got awesome results!! The results are what kept me going though! You also get two bonus workouts, Slim and 6-Pack (10 minute ab workout) and Slim & Limber (13 minute awesome full body stretch). Okay, okay, I'm done now, ha!

Jen, I will keep this potential job in prayer for you!

Iris, the house-work is going well. It's coming and going in spurts though, LOL. :p Yesterday we didn't do anything with the dining room because my hubby needed to work on my FIL's car. How was your day at work today?

I started checking in with the new "novice runners" check-in today. I'm hoping to get some more tips on running!

Today's workout was my Couch to 5K run plus "Tone it Up" from the Slim Series. This workout was a killer! It's a 60 minute total body, non-stop, compound weighted workout. I must have done 100 lunges, squats and plie squats on their own, and then I did more lunges combined with endless bicep curls, tricep kick backs, squats with front raises, side arm raises, overhead presses, etc. etc. There was really good floor work at the end too. There is an outer thigh lift sequence that goes on and on, I felt like my legs were going to catch fire! I couldn't finish all the sets/reps, but I made it through! Debbie says she is only using 3lb weights and at first I though that might be too light for me. I quickly realized after the millionth rep that I was crazy and eventually switched to my 2lb weights, LOL. It finished with some ab work and then I stretched with Slim & Limber. It felt really good to be back to this type of training!!

Have a blessed day everyone! :)

ok, don't know what i was thinking today. i did cardio fusion in its entirety and i thought , "oh, it is on like 70m or a bit more" how hard could it be??????? well, i have one thing to say! ooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i don't think i'm gonna be able to walk tomorrow. apparantly, i have never done the whole thing. the 2nd segment of body max 2 is VERY HARD. i actually had to stop a couple times and suck in air. now, tell me that is not HIIT training! surely it is. you go til you can't breathe and then recover, right? well, i could not breath. what a tough workout. my feet are killing me. think i'm too old for that one.:)
cathy

Hello Ladies,

I'm laughing at your post Cathy. I feel like I'm getting to old for Cathe's workouts more and more lately. I haven't done Cardio Fusion in a while, and I remember having to pause the DVD quite a few times each time I did it. That is non-stop cardio.

Christine, you have me convinced I need to get SI6. I'm going to start looking for it on Ebay or Amazon. It sounds like a change from anything I've been doing.

Jen, you're in my prayers :)

Today's class was 30/30. Talk about non-stop cardio! Even the sculpting had my heart-rate up. Those step classes really work me good.

Work was pretty busy today, but the day zoomed by. Now I'm relaxing with my favorite channel "HGTV".

Have a great night ladies :)

"Train up a child in the way he should go, even when he is old he will not depart from it" (Proverbs 22:6)

Iris, sounds like you're really enjoying those 30/30 classes! They sound like something I'd enjoy too. I sent you an email regarding Slim in 6.

Cathy, I have Cardio Fusion but have never attempted it all the way through. You go girl!! :) :D How are you feeling today??

Jen, hope all is well!

Today's workout was Slim Series "Mix it Up". It was a little less tough than yesterday's workout because this one alternated working lower body & upper body so I had a bit of a breather. It wasn't all compound movements, but some of it was. There was also an awesome standing abs segment (and floor abs). I followed that up with Slim & Limber for a great stretch!

Have a blessed day everyone!
