I read in a women's magazine that in order to cleanse parasites/worms, you can make a smoothie: 8 ounces water; 1 ounce unsweetend cranberry juice; 1/4 c. pumpkin seeds; 1 scoop protein powder. If the "infestation" isn't too bad, drinking this every other day for a few weeks is supposed to get rid of them. I made it tonight and it's not bad, but how in the world do you blend the seeds? I'm drinking it then having to chew the seeds which is kinda grossing me out. Suggestions?

I've never heard of cranberry for parasites, but I've heard of pumpkin seeds.
To blend them, grind up the seeds first in the blender (using a grinding blade), then add the powdered seeds to the rest of the ingredients.

At least that's what I'd do.

Or perhaps a coffee grinder which is used to grind spices and other such items that are actually harder than pumpkin seeds?

Are parasites/worms a common problem? How would you know you have them and need a cleanse?

She could always switch out a sample of her own for "Fido's" at the next vet appointment.

I have a hard time believing the "Parasite" cleanse hype. If my dogs, who eat crap and lick each other's butts have never had anything, why would I be paranoid that I do? ;)

Because your dogs are probably on a heartworm preventative that controls most intestinal parasites. I'm assuming that you are not on a heartworm preventative :).

My dogs are not on heartguard and there haven't been any parasites in their poops so far.

I think there is so much hype about parasites. Why do you worry, Kim? Do you have any symptoms or is it just a preventative messure?

Well, like I said, I was just reading this in a magazine "First" I think...that may not even be the name. Anyway, they were talking about how lots of women with symtpoms such as brain fog, fatigue, etc. really may have this problem. The smoothie was suggested and then if symptoms still persisted, they recommended some kind of herb but I didn't want to do that. Plus, I figured it couldn't hurt.
