A Cathe petition - please sign!

Okay, I REALLY want Cathe to do this, so I thought maybe I could get up a petition on the Open Discussion forum and then take it to the Ask Cathe forum with the power of all your "signatures" behind my idea!

Here's what I would love to have happen: Cathe to film a video for placement on her home page that shows her pointing out all of the muscles on the human body, using a model with very well defined muscles like Deezie. She would note the Latin names as well as the common terms for each muscle and some standard exercises that would work that muscle.

I really think that would help not just newbies, but everyone, really get the most of their Cathe workouts and we would all learn where the hell our traps are!

If you would love to see that too, please repond positively to this thread and "sign the petition"!

I support it.

Morningstar:
Great idea. I am a klutz when it comes to knowing muscle names. If not a model like Deezie, at least a computer-drawn chart.

There are plenty of books on this subject that show the human body, muscle groups, and corresponding exercises. A book entitled Strength Training Anatomy comes to mind (there is also a version 'for women'). It's cheap and detailed enough without being overly technical. You can find it on Amazon and probably overstock.com. If you just want a quick reference to place in your workout area at home, you could also pick up a strength training anatomy chart (similar to what you would find in a gym); if I recall, places like fitness wholesale online sell them relatively inexpensively.

To make it more in the spirit of Cathe, I think that your idea could be pretty cool for an episode of CatheTV in which Cathe would use a model to discuss the DVD of the week perhaps? I'm not sure how that would work without giving away the entire workout sequence, but it could be a way of promoting the benefits of a given DVD or download.

Again, while you're waiting to get Cathe's adoption of this, you might want to check out one of those books or a poster.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. Let me explain why I would like Cathe to do her own video on this, when alternatives currently exist.

I am aware that there are millions of references available for this - I even have a beautifully illustrated edition of Grey's Anatomy. I do not find that a chart or even a picture of a person does the job for me. I trust Cathe to provide accurate and relevant information in a way that is entertaining and informative while using an actual live person to illustrate the information. I am sure that there may already be videos like this on YouTube, but again, I trust and rely on Cathe to give this type of information. I would want this video to be about learning about the muscles of the human body rather than about a particular workout DVD. I would want it to be on the home page because I'm not sure she is still doing Cathe TV. I have a fairly broad base of knowledge of musculature, but not everyone does and I am sure there is always more I could learn.

I'd co-sign this, but only if we changed it to "suggestion" rather than "petition." I don't think it's our place to try to assign Cathe homework or to attempt to "force" her to do something, especially something as involved and potentially costly as a film production. That said, it would be a cool reference.

I understand Morningstar's request for this! I have a degree in Fitness Science and went through all the Anatomy and Physiology and Exercise Physiology classes. The book learning and information was useful, but not until I got some real hands on and visual work with this information did it all click! That happened after I became a certified aerobics instructor/personal trainer. I was at a conference for instructors and took a class on kinesiology where we were shown the major muscles on a person with a demonstration of insertion points and how these all came together to work the muscle and why specific exercises were more effective for a particular muscle group. This was all done by demonstration of the muscle contraction, location, etc. with and without the exercise. That made everything more clear!

So, all that said, I agree that we should see if Cathe would be willing to do this! I'm a very visual and hands-on person! I can read all day long, but until it is done in practice, it never really sticks!

Who's paying for all these? Nothing is free. Resources (model, time, getting the graphics, set up, editing, etc) costs money. Charge membership? I don't think we should expect Cathe to absorb all the cost... and I won't pay for membership.

Okay, so apparently I am trying to control Cathe, rip her off, steal her hard earned money, hold her up at gun point and am about to take down the entire Cathe freebie system by insisting that we all pay membership charges.

Forget it! It ain't worth it. As of 6pm today, only a couple of people have responded positively and there have been 383 views of this thread, so clearly I do not have popular support for my idea. Screw it. Where the hell is my Grey's Anatomy, anyway?

Maybe you didn't mean for this to be funny, Morningstar, but it made me laugh. I was just about ready to post how I'd like this too, just because I seem to absorb more when Cathe speaks . . . I trust her and who has time to read and study a big book, but since it doesn't seem to be a popular idea I'll just go back to my quiet corner :) . . . can I borrow your Grey's Anatomy?

Hugs,

Dude, you got two people expressing concerns and all the other responses were 100% positive. It's a Sunday which is always a slow posting day--you might get more replies tomorrow. Why don't you go ahead and at least suggest it? Like I said, it would be a cool reference. I'd just soften the language a little if I were you, try to be sensitive to the costs/work involved for her and her company and whatnot. But hey that's just my 2 cents.

Hey Morningstar, I think this is a totally awesome idea! I also am a visual learner. In my opinion, having something like this on Cathe's site would set her apart from other instructors, so a good thing for her business.

I will respectfully say that I don't think it's a very good idea.
I'd rather that Cathe put her funding towards another fitness series, rather than an anatomy class. I'm not sure of her educational background, but a video like this may be more than she's comfortable handling.

A suggestion to meet in the middle may be to add more terminology as she's teaching. Note the muscle groups more, and how they're being impacted as we work out with her.

I thought her DVDs did a good enough job of instructing the user on what muscles are worked with what. I have 7-8 of her lifting DVDs and in all of those she's detailing muscle groups.

I will respectfully disagree also. If I want to learn about the anatomy I can take a hands-on class at a local community college for fairly cheap. They also make 3D models and 3D computer programs that are less than $100 (can be bought on most college campuses). Cathe is a great instructor and I think she already goes above and beyond any other instructor in this industry. There's nothing wrong with suggestions, we all have them, but to use such strong language isn't exactly going to nudge someone do to something.

Again it's a nice idea, but for a free forum and membership, we're already getting boat loads more than what ANY other instructor has available; MOST require us to pay for memberships that have a fraction of what Cathe offers here.

Morningstar, bless your heart, when I read the title of this one, I just knew there'd be a bit of drama.

It would be nice to have a Cathe Anatomy video. Wonder if a YouTube-ish thing would be expensive and very time consuming?

How did I miss seeing this?! I think this is a great idea! Definitely something for Cathe T.V. Cathe is incredibly knowledgeable and professional, plus she communicates clearly and succinctly. God knows I could use a tutorial, maybe I'd be less prone to injury or at the very least more aware. The other fitness instructors/trainers could learn a lot from Cathe too (Jari comes to mind! ;)).

ROFLMAO! :D:D:D:D:D:D

There was originally supposed to be something like this in STS (an insert during the rest breaks showing animation of the muscles used for the upcoming exercise). Then it got moved to somewhere on the site (but IIRC, not very many of these demos were made).

Yes, I remember! There were a few made. I looked for them, but couldn't find them.

I remember that it was supposed to be during the rest times in STS but there were a lot of negative comments towards it (would appear redundant on subsequent viewings, boring, etc.).
