A bit bummed out

Ugh - I got laid off today. I saw it coming though. I am really good at reading situations and I saw the signs. I worked for a very atypical company.I would explain further, but I can't post that info online of course. But, I was fortunate enough to position myself financially and so the sting wasn't too bad. My boss was upset to let me go and I am happy I leave with great references. I am going to miss my co-workers.

I am posting this because I know there are others going through a similar thing. I just wanted to say that I know how you feel. I was embarrassed at first, but now I am not. This was not performance based, in fact quite the contrary. I was just caught up in the economy.

I look at this as an opportunity. I have the whole world at my feet and I can do and go whatever and where ever I want. To those other laid off people out there: it is ok! We will be ok and things will get better!

Gosh no - don't be embarassed!!

I am so sorry to hear of your job loss. Every day I hope and pray that our country gets back on track and life becomes easier for us all.

Stay strong and I'll keep my fingers crossed that you come across a great job soon!

Sorry to hear you got laid off:( But, happy to hear you have a great attitude about it :). Best of luck finding something new, and keep the happy outlook!

Becky, my sister got laid off last Friday and for a moment just now, I considered cutting and pasting your post as email to her. She's not feeling quite so upbeat. I heard Richard Bolles ("What color is your parachute?") on the radio Monday and he was saying that hope is born out of alternatives.... you just have to make sure you consider many avenues in job searching. Anyway, here's hoping the best for you, and thank you very much for your post -- I think it could really help some people. I may send it to my sister yet!

Becky,
You sure have a great attitude! I know it is not what you want (at least initially) of getting laid off but I’m glad for you that you have a backup. And you are right – you have the opportunity now to dare to be different, reinvent yourself, or anything you want! Good for you!

At my company, we have done multiple rounds of layoffs over the last 18 months and it has not been fun. One of my friends who was let go has now followed her passion into gardening; she became a master gardner and is now teaching continuing education classes at a local University! We’ve all been encouraging her for years to follow this dream and it took the lay off for her to do it! So you never know what awaits you out there!

I wish you the best and hope you too can find something you can feel passionate about! In the meantime, there's always workouting out! :)

Becky,

I pray that things will work out well for you. This could be a blessing in disguise and lead to something you will absolutely love doing! It's happening to so many people at every level.

Sending you a hug

Becky,

I completely understand what you are going through. I have been laid off twice within a year and it is certainly difficult at best. I am glad to see you have a great attitude about it and I recommend taking this time for yourself to do some things that you haven't been able to get to for awhile.

In the 3 months since I have been laid off, I have learned so much about myself that I would have never figured out had I still been working. It's been very tough, no question about it, but I have a better understanding now of what I am made of!!

Good luck to you and I send you {{{hugs}}}

Becky,

I just wanted to send you some good vibes. I ditto everything that has already been said. You have a great attitude so I know you'll be fine.

My company has been a little unstable although no layoffs as of yet. I'm saving money like crazy because you never know what can happen.

{{{Hugs}}},

Oh nooooooooooo! I'm so sorry Becky! Let me know if I can help in any way. I know some folks in your area, ya know. ;)

{{{Becky}}} - I've been where you are before. You have the PERFECT attitude! Keep it up and you'll do fine...and end up in a better position than before.

Sorry to hear you were laid off Becky but I have to say what an inspiration you are!! You have a very positive attitude & it sounds like you won't let this get you down! Good for you!

In our prayers & best of luck!

Thanks everyone!

I am so fortunate to have this site and people like you in my life as well. Thanks for all of your support and kind words of encouragement.

Beth - please do send it to your sister. I hope it can help and I hope things work out for her too.

Laura - thanks! I will definitely take you up on that offer!

Becky, you sure do have a great attitude. I only hope I'd have the same outlook if I were to ever find myself in that situation.

Good luck with your upcoming job search.

Hey Becky

You know I already responded by email but keep your chin up...you've got a great attitude. You will be fine I'm sure. Looking forward to meeting you tomorrow.

Becky, I was laid off from my last job about 5 years ago, and at first, I was panic-stricken, but I saw it, as you do, as an opportunity for exciting changes. As a result, through being at the right place at the right time about a month after the layoff, I landed a job that I've been in since, and that I absolutely love. This is a definite first for me. I've always hated my job in the past.

So, here's to bigger and better things for you, too!!;)

(((HUGS)))

I'm so sorry to hear that. ITA with everyone-- you have a tremendously positive attitude. I'm sure it will take you far. I'll be thinking of you!

Good luck, and all the best!

{{{{{Becky}}}}} I'm so sorry. You have an amazing attitude and somehow I don't think you'll have any trouble finding a new job. Your positive energy is infectious. Best wishes to you.

Sorry to hear of your job loss, but it was smart of you to have funds put away just in case. Most people are living trying to make ends meet and you have a little bit of breathing room(that's me). My hats off to you. Can you imagine if you didn't have a cushion to land on until you found something else. I unfortunately work for the State of California with the parole dept and we got a 10% cut and I'm crying. I congratulate you on your optimism. You're a good example of how I should be.

Good luck at reinventing yourself.
