9th Interval in IMAX2

Shelbygirl

Hello Everyone.

Is there anyone out there who can actually make it all the way through Interval #9 in IMAX 2? I can get through 1 through 8 successfully (I'm not saying that I do splits in the air during the airborn jacks or anything, but I can complete all the other intervals with little to no modifications). However, I have yet to be able to get through all those pesky plie jacks in #9. Kudos to those of you who have made it through!

Take Care,
Shelbygirl

Hi Shelbygirl,
I CAN get through it, but the last few plie jacks are SO weak that I may actually only be jumping 1 inch (but at least I can say that I did it!)

I like to do a premix of warmup plus Intervals 6-10 then 1-5, this makes #9 a lot more doable-though its still a killer.

Hi Shelbygirl,

That one is a toughie. I can make it through it, but the thighs are SCREAMING by the end. One thing I sometimes do on days when I'm planning to do the IMAX's or MIC is to eat some sort of energy snack an hour or so before. It seems to help.

Do not fear, you'll make it through. :) :)

Hi Shelbygirl,

I just did this one last night. I sudstituted this for plyo x. Whew..was this fun, energizing, and intense. I forgot how much I enjoyed this workout. I can ususally make it through interval 9, but after being away from this workout for a while it was tough. I modified half way through interval 9. Keep working on it and enjoy.

Hi Shelbygirl, I've NEVER done those plie jacks in interval 9. I feel them IMMEDIATELY in my knees and I'm not risking these babies for a perfect performance. I do 4 slow ones for Cathe's 8 fast ones, plyo jack style, with my toes pointing out, as if I were doing a plie squat. So in counts 1,3,5, and 7, I'm jumping and landing a plie squat, and in counts 2,4,6, and 8, I'm jumping back into place, with my feet still pointing outwards. This way I feel the jumps in my thighs, not my knees.

I can get through all of it. It took a little practice at first but it's no problem now. Just keep working at it, and before you know it you'll be zipping through it!!

Hi Shelbygirl!

Interval 9 is soooo tough, but you'll get there! It took me about a month of Cathe-ing along with doing IMAX2 1-2 times a week and I finally was able to make it through #9 (wheezing and coughing and sputtering....x( )! My dh was watching me during #9 one time because he heard all these strange noises coming from me. He then left the room but was still within earshot during #10 where Cathe says, "I know you're tired, but jump HIGHER!" (hence my quote below) He yelled from the other room, "What the !@#$ did she just say...?" }( :)

Kim, that is very funny! I have a little bit of a story like that, but different tape and instructor. I won't go into it here though.
I have to say that 9 is really hard. If I've been away from that workout for a while I really have a tough time with it. Thank goodness Cathe made #10 fun! At least the step routine before hand is, ha! I bet if my dh saw me do that workout he'd say the same thing.

Hi Shelbygirl! I am pleased to say that I can make it through this mother of all intervals, it isn't necessarily as pretty as Cathe's execution but I get it done and then I get a rush of accomplishment and endorphins during recovery that almost drowns out my screaming inner thighs!!! You will do this, one day it will all come together and when it does, let us know.

Thanks for all the tips and modification ideas. I think I'll try doing 5-10 first, followed by 1-5 (as was suggested). I also think I just need to do it more often. I've only been doing it once or twice a month. I'll have to put it into a weekly rotation a see what happens.

I can do it, but I certainly don't enjoy it and since I like to go out on a bang and on a positive note, I usually sub airborne jumps, 8 of them, for those airborne jacks. I prefer the jumps, I still have energy fo them and I make them as high as I can and as expansive with the arms as I can to increase the cardio effect.

I am someone who has little lateral flexibility, i.e. plie squats are the worst and most difficult lower body exercise for me, and airborne jacks are tougher to do with less lateral flexibility, so, since it is my workout, and I am the boss in my own living room, I simply ignore the little TV tyrant and sub away to my heart's content.

Everyone always says, "keep at them , you'll get them", but heck! if you don't care for a move and it makes your workout end with a negative note, then I say, don't do 'em and do what makes you feel good instead. After all, let's face it: if you've gotten that far with Imax 2, you're already right up there with the best of them, and this isn't a competition!

If you master them, good for you! if you couldn't be bothered and/or they just don't work for you, and you prefer to sub, also good for you!!
