90 MINUTE workouts?!!

My w/outs range anywhere from 60-90 min. depending on what I am doing each day. I have cut back lately and it doesn't seem to make a diff for me but I am trying to watch my diet closely. I am a SAHM so I have alot of flexibility in my days.

OK well mine are normally 45 minutes. Occasionally 50, rarely more than that. I'm like you, that's all I can get in before work in the morning.

And unlike many out here, I do not workout on the weekends. That's my sacred rest time.

So don't feel bad! I've never been motivated to do all 90 minutes of a Cathe workout. I just view those long ones as a bunch of different workouts (premixes) in one.

My workouts often take 1.5 - 2 hrs b/c I am dabbling w/ both cardio and weight stuff. I don't think either by itself takes that long. Often I take longer with rests, etc.

Typically, my workouts are just about an hour. Yesterday, it was 90 minutes, only because I was working through Amy Bento's new step workout and with all the rewinding and stuff, it took me longer than usual. Even when I'm not working, they are usually about an hour.

I read somewhere (Charles Poliquin, I think...), "Your workouts should only be a max of an hour...anything longer you're not working out, you're making friends"

Weekdays I usually do 45-60 minutes of cardio in the mornings & 60-90 minutes of lifting 2 nights a week. On the weekends I do 2 hours of circuit/core on Saturday & 2 hours cardio/lifting at the gym on Sunday.

Not that I'm really regimented or anything. ;-)

I have found that anything over 60 minutes in a single workout is counterproductive for me, I lose focus and spend my time watching the time.
I have however, done cardio for 35-50 minutes in the AM and then my weights for an hour or 45 minutes in the evening. Splitting them up works well for me. I have the energy towards the evening for weights, but not in the AM.

I think 45-60 minutes is just fine. Before I had kids and a husband, I worked out at least 90 minutes a day. It's different for me now, though. I have to workout before my kids get up, and I don't have enough time before work to workout for much more than 60 minutes -- and that's with getting up at 4:15! And it never seems possible for me to get in any additional workout time in the evening after work. Between fixing dinner, my 2 young girls, getting ready for work the next day, and getting to bed at a decent hour (so I can get up early), my evenings are toast. I totally OK with 60 minutes (or less), though, since that's what fits into my life.

I'm always afraid to work out for more than an hour because I've seen so many posts where people have had better results doing less. Why should I kill myself for less results?
 
My day to day work outs are 30-60 minutes long for the most part. Then there is the occasional shorter and longer ones thrown in there.

I personally think it's overkill to work out for THAT long on a daily basis but I guess it depends on what kind of results you are after and what your body responds best to. Everyone is different.:)
