50 and over week of October 4 check in

Late check in! Did Imax2 blast mania this morning. Started entering my food for the day before I even eat anything. That little thing has made a big difference, since I don't like to make the page look messy. Yesterday at work had cake for some who got married. This one woman refused to have a piece and someone told her that eating it was supposed to be good lluck for the wedding couple. She still didn't eat it, and it got to me thinking about what is important. I ate most of my slice, but not the icing. I don't care for such a sweet dessert. Plus, I may have worked it off during Imax2.

late post

Thank you Jann, I was looking for a thread with todays date. I woked 11 hours today. I did a premix of Cathe's KP&C. Some of you are making STS sound like a must have.nDo some of you do just Cathe? I like to mix a few others that I like.

I am a newbie and I hope to get to know all of you a little better. I am in banking and we have the FDIC examiners coming the middle of October so I see some long hours a head.

Thank you all for the warm welcome and I will post in the am. I can't post from work so I will try and check back at night to see what everyone is doing. This will be a great for motivation!

How long are the STS workouts? Are some of the STS workouts over an hour long? I usually spend an hout or a little more in the am but not much more than that.

Have a good evening,

Deb

HEY EVERYBODY, I'M BACK!!!!! What a beautiful day we had for my sister's wedding. It rained all week before it, but the clouds parted and the sun shone down - it was a great day. I'm hoping my picture attached here so you can see us, and how all the workouts paid off! I'm not going to stay long, I just wanted to say I'm back, I'll be checking out the new Oct. rotation and deciding what I'm doing next sometime tomorrow.

I've missed you all and can't wait to catch up!

BTW, here are me and DH, my daughter Isabella, son Philip Anthony and his twin sister, Marissa. Aren't they adorable???

Hi, Y'All!

Sorry to have been absent yesterday, but this is a pretty busy time for me, since I have a load of course work I need to catch up on, plus all the other related stuff. Did Disc 11 today. I'm getting better at this.

Welcome, Deb & Cookie. Nice to have more people join us. Deb, I retired from SouthTrust Bank (formerly First American) in Atlanta a long time ago. I worked in operations, and remember working 60-plus hours a week when SouthTrust took us over. I still laugh at the saying "bankers' hours."

Welcome back, Tricia. What a beautiful picture and what a gorgeous family you have. You look great.

Joan, sometimes I think a lot of the people on these blogs are young and they don't know what's ahead of them. Like menopause, andropause, and a host of other possibilities. I was in gorgeous shape until "the change" came, then nothing I did worked any more, no matter what it was. I had always thought I was in such great shape that I would just sail through menopause. That's not the way it sometimes works, though. I have to modify, too, and do premixes on most everything, and I do very well at 60. So don't lose heart or listen to someone who doesn't have all the answers. Do whatever you need to do to stay healthy and in shape.

Have a great evening, everyone! Off to "class!"

HI all!
Welcome Deb and Cookie. I used to have a friend in HS named Cookie! :) It's so nice to have more of us in the group!

Disc 11 for me today too! Felt good!

Joan I agree until you have to face it you can't understand it(aging). I've been working out with Cathe for 6 years and I have and will modify, modify, modify with the high impact/step stuff. I trust my own judgment and I hate it with people feel they need to compare themselves with other people.
Don't let them get to you. :) How's your Mother?

Tricia Well, the hard work paid off girl!! What a gorgeous family! Welcome back! How'd your sister do?

Deb the STS workouts vary from Meso1-3 from lengths of 48 to 69 minutes most of them just under an hour. Here's a link to the list - http://www.thecathenation.com/tutorials/PDF/STS_Disc_Listing.pdf I do all sorts of workouts. Currently I am doing another round of STS and adding in other cardio + treadmill + Cathe. Mixing it up.

Cookie I like planning my meals too -- I need to do that more! Everyone should have cake once in a while! :D

Cathy I have not checked out Octobers rotation yet - I will and I will let you know.

Lori Hate it when sleep does not happen. Today's another day!

Later Ladies!

gym style legs

Good afternoon ladies, I am home on my lunch hour. I come home every day because I only live a mile away. Tonight is gym style legs.

Jann, Thank you for the link. I am so tempted. I do wish Cathe would have a sale just for me:) I am hoping to order them soon. I know where I can get the whole set for 10% off the total package. That would save me about $300.00. I better get back to work. I need that paycheck if I want new workouts! :D

Have a great evening all,

Deb

:)Hi everyone - today was disc 4 day...the dreaded pushup! which I have to do on my knees. But I sure feel it tonight, so I know that something is working!
Welcome Deb & Cookie. I find it a great motivator to check in with a group of women in my age range.
Speaking of....I once bought a bunch of Cathe's step videos, and found that I just could not do them safely. My joints are not very strong, it seems to run in the family, and I did not want to invite a bunch of problems. My uncle was a competitive athlete in his younger days and so far has had ankle, knee and hip replacement surgery. So I stopped with the high impact. I still love Cathe and think it's great that she has been so successful, but I'll leave the high impact to those who can. I just need to accept and work with my limitations, be they genetic or age-related. My .02, lol!
Deb, I love STS. I do STS three times a week, alternating with Cardio Coach on my elliptical. I take one rest day a week. I also like swimming, dancing, bike riding, hiking and in the winter cross country skiing but I consider these to be recreational activities and don't count them as workouts.
Tricia - what a beautiful family you have, you must be very proud.
Magnolia - what courses are you taking?
Jann - sleep came like a ton of bricks last night, so feeling good today.
Hope everyone has had a terrific day. Take care, be happy!

Back again! Thanks for your warm welcomes.
What I find challenging is not so much making it through the workouts, it is that I need rest days more often. I love plyo, and can do it, not gracefully, but love that adreline rush! Can't run anymore from a nagging piriformis; nor can I play tennis or racquetball 'cause my shoulder can't take it anymore. But still we perservere! For me, exercise is my stress reliever, as well as my indulgence in me time.

Hi gang

I just finished with Gum style legs what a great workout. Jann, I have all Cathes step workouts but I do not do them anymore because of a bad knee. I have no problem with kickboxing. It doesn't bother my knees at all. I need to make the muscles stronger around my knee.

Who said cake bring me a piece with lots of icing! I need to get to the store and buy me some jollytime popcorn. I buy the mini bags and each bag has one point. It is just the right size. I am guilty of not cooking for myself. I have been eating a lot of lean cusines, veggies, cottage cheese and fruit. I just do not enjoy cooking for myself anymore. I used to always cook when my husband was still with me. I do make healthy soups in the winter.

I am going to pop something in the microwave and then look at the workouts again LOL. Don't you think the STS workouts would make a great Christmas gift to myself. Christmas in October, I like it!:D

Have a good one ladies,

Deb

Lori

I used to go out dancing with my husband and I miss it so much and we had the best time riding bikes together. I have a Trek multi Sport and my husband had a Trek mountain bike. I still have it. I just can't part with it. We were so very close. I love cardio coach. Sean isn't bad to look art either ;) I have a black and white picture of him and he sits by my computer. He has really inspired me with all his workouts. Do you do the elliptical at home. I have plenty of dvds and equipment I won't ever have to pay a big gym membership fee. I would like to take a kickboxing class once just to see how I like it. I have a hard time being around strangers. I spend all my extra time with my parents, sister, brothers when they are not busy. My mom, sister and I are best friends. I have taken my bike out several times this year and ride on the trails and side roads. I love pilates. I have a ton of dvds. When you work full time, it is hard to make time for fun activities but I manage to get out most of the time. Sorry for going on and on but that is how we get to know one another.

Have peaceful sleep,

Deb

Magnolia

Bankers hours. If people knew they are not what they should be LOL. Our Bank opens at 8:30 and we close at 5:00 M-T and stay open until 6:00 on Fridays. I am going on my sixteenth year there and I finally will have four weeks of vacartion. YIPPEEE. I advice no one to work in banking if you want off at decent hours unless you are the owner and you won't have any problem LOL.

Good night once again,

Deb

Hi Jann, Magnoli, Tricia, Beth, Cathy, Deb, Lori, Deb and Cookie.

Welcome Deb and Cookie.

I can say I really love STS so yes it would be a great Christmas gift. I use the official rotation with Cathe cardio just because that's what I have. I don't like any exercise so it doesn't matter much which ones I do as long as I can stand the main persons voice. I hate to listen to Leslie Sansone but what I do is use her moves anytime Cathe's steps are too difficult or high impact. I have all of Cathe's dvd's and can do all the step by modifying them so much you wouldn't recognize them. I either use no step or an extremely low step. The intensity is still greater than most other instructors that I have so I won't complain.

Jann and Magnolia I really wasn't giving up because of their comments, they just made me mad. They don't seem to have any understanding of the majority of their customers. I really wish I could get all the 20 and 30 year olds to exercise and get into Cathe shape before they get old. But if everyone is like me the weight and inactivity just snuck up on me. I was about 102lbs when I got married. After 2 kids I weighed 119lbs. I joined Vic Tanny and loved it until I got stress fractures in both ankles. I gained 11lbs to weigh 130lbs. Year's later I joined the Y and was very happy with the instructors until I got a substitute who thought it would be funny to use an old army manual for exercises. Again I got hurt and gained another 10 lbs. After 140lbs I hated to even think about exercising again because it seemed like I only gained even more. Off my soap box.

Talked to the surgeon today. The next surgery will be either Oct 19 or 21. Because the area where there needs to be more tissue removed is between the cancer(hole) and the skin there will probably not be enough space to allow the 5 day radiation. So now there will be radiation every day between Nov 16 and Christmas. I wish they would have just taken more to begin with. It was the 2nd surgery we wanted to avoid not the radiation.

Tricia Love the dress- you look great and what a beautiful family.

No workout today still working on getting last tax returns done. Only 5 more to do, nothing like waiting until the last minute.

Joan

Joan

Good morning everyone,

Joan, I am sorry you have to go through chemo and you are not feeling well. I had no idea. I went with my husband for several years when he had chemo and radiation. I don't know the details but my thoughts and prayers are with you. If you need a friend to talk to pm me and we can talk. I can give you my email if you like.

I am going to work early so I will do my workout tonight. I will do pyramid upper body. I am going to do a pilates dvd before I go to work.

Good morning to Jann, Lori, Deb, Magnolia, Iron-mom, Cathy, Cookie and Tricia.

I will check back later .

Enjoy the day :)

Deb

Good morning!

Deb it's Joan's Mother who is sick. I am so sorry about your Husband. [[deb]] I had part of my colon removed to remove a cancer pylop, actually one year ago last week. The VERY goods news it they got it all and I have not needed any other treatment. Yes defiantly the STS would be a GREAT Christmas gift. :D It is to bad Cathe doesn't give a make-up sale for those folks who didn't know.

Joan OH I love soap boxes been on a few myself :D That's why this checkin is so wonderful we all are experiencing the same pain(s) ;) Thanks again for starting it!

Cookie I agree! With age comes wisdom, we know better! :D

Lori congrats on the sleep!

I went for a morning walk outside. Will be doing yard work this afternoon.
Have a great day all!

Hi Jann, Magnolia, Tricia, Joan, Cathy, Deb, Lori, Deb and Cookie;

Wow!!

Joan, I feel your pain about the aging and lack of understanding from some people. I have always kept myself in top notch shape- but nature has a way of softening the edge whether we like it or not. At the pilates workshop, someone was saying that the biggest market for fitness today is the over 50 group- and they have the most to spend--- so........enough said.

With that being said, the main reason I do these moves at home instead of in a group anymore is because it allows me to try as hard as I can without worrying about how I look-- and modifications are stepping stones to progression.

Haven't wo today yet but yesterday I did the 4 day kickboxing then sts #2 triceps and back. I was disappointed to see only 356 calories after an hour and a half. I know the kickboxing is good because of the core movement and the mental action of following along - but I burn more calories doing the hiit on the treadmill in 20 minutes - which is what I think I will do today- and pilates-- legs tomorrow.

Tricia- you look beautiful and your family is adorable!!

Jan, enjoy the outdoors!

Deb- I am sorry about your husband. Mine is my best friend and I can't imagine how you must feel.

Cookie, I love the adreneline rush from the plyo legs too. Makes me feel like a kid!

Magnolia, hope the classes are going well!!

Good morning, Y'All!

I just finished Disc 12 because we are heading out of town tomorrow for the weekend (Louisville, KY to see friends), and there is no way I am going to drag myself up at 5 am to do it. So I moved it up a day. I figured that since its Legs, it's probably okay to do the day after Chest and Triceps. It felt pretty good. Deb, I think STS would make a wonderful Christmas present, especially to oneself. It could be a gift that truly does keep giving--it can help you get stronger and healthier, and how cool is that? It is only my first time through the program, but I do love it. I feel much stronger and sleep better most of the time.

Lori, I am pursuing a masters degree in Theology and Christian Ministry. I am a distance learning student & my school is Franciscan University of Steubenville. Right now, I am working on a course entitled "Biblical Foundations of the Church." I am not sure exactly what I am going to do with it, but it seems to be something I need to do right now. Don't worry, I'm not into preaching, but I will pray for you if you need it.

Joan, I have a problem with some of those other instructors, too, especially the excessively "chirpy" types. I can't take working out with them, especially in the morning. Cathe is pleasant, clever and motivating. There are some other instructors I like, too, like Keli Roberts, Chalene Johnson, Kelsey Daniels, and a bunch of others. Sorry to hear about all the therapy your mother needs. You're all in my prayers.

Deb, so sorry about your DH. I lost my first husband when he was 26. It's tough, but I can't tell you that I know what you're going through because we are all different and our relationships are pretty individual. We were very close as well, though, and I think that has been the most difficult thing I ever had to face.

Hi, Jann, Beth, Tricia, Cathy, Cookie and Deb.

Have a great day everyone--and a great weekend, as well.

Magnolia

Hi Jann, Magnolia, Tricia, Beth, Cathy, Deb, Joan, Deb and Cookie - just finished my CC Volume 4 cardio workout. Feels great, I really gave it all I had this morning.
Magnolia - good for you for going for your Masters. And thank you...I really believe that prayer works...it has worked wonders in my life and I am truly grateful.
Deb - I'm sorry about your husband. Sounds like you have many precious memories. And yes, I do the elliptical at home.
Jann - enjoy the outdoors! It's freezing here, we have a trace of snow on the ground and are expecting a bit more. But from my window I can see the snow-capped Rockie mountains and they are breathtaking.
Everyone have a fabulous day...be happy!

Morning all -- It's suppose to be in the 80's today then in the mid 60's tomorrow - It is truly fall here.

BBL to catch up.

Good morning TGIF

Good morning Jann,

I am just checking in before I get ready for work. When I get home tonight I will do the elliptical with cardio coach 3 and pilates. As soon as things calm down and work the first week of November I will get back to my morning workouts.

Joan, I thought you were the one sick. I hope your mother gets better. It is so hard seeing a loved one so sick.

Jann, I am so glad the doctors got all the cancer that is wonderful news. You have a lot to celebrate.

Thank you all for the kind words about my husband. Butch is in a wonderful place and I know I will see him again. I took a two month leave from work for two months before he passed away at home and I never once left his side.
I was very fortunate to be able to keep him home. During the last months of his life he was so sick and on high dosages of pain killers and he couldn't talk very much. God gave Butch a week to communicate with us, he was up walking and giving me hugs and telling me how much he loved me it was amazing. I thank God everyday for that week.

I posted a question already on the STS thread but thought I would ask you ladies too.

If I order the STS series I know I will need to purchase additional equipment.

I plan on buying Cathes weighted gloves, weighted vest and the tower. If I have a step and risers is it necessary to buy a bench? I wouldn't have anyone to spot me living with just my cat but he is pretty smart :) I wonder if any stores carry Cathe's equipment. Is the weightes vest 10 pounds? I wonder if I could use it when I do my elliptical.

I am glad I found you ladies. It is so nice to see ladies my age loving and living life to the fullest. Isn't exercise wonderful!

I better get ready for work.

Deb
