5 weeks post partum

Hello!
I had my first child 5 weeks ago via emergency C section. I was able to workout with Cathe until the morning before I delivered (with lots of modifications, especially at the end). I have had an amazingly easy recovery, and I know its because I was able to stay in shape during my pregnancy with Cathe.

I am ready to double knot my laces and get back into it! My doc said I could start with some light cardio and then add some upperbody then lower body then abs. I did the elliptical for the first time today and it went easier than I thought! This has been the longest break I have taken since I started working out consistently 11 years ago.

I was just wondering for those of you who have been in my position, where you started? I was thinking low impact series, but Cathe low impact isn't light cardio! I know I will be ready for that very soon though. I have got the new workouts like the 38th week of my pregnancy and its driving me crazy that I have not been able to do any of those yet!

I'm not sure any of Cathe's workouts are considered 'light' cardio. Maybe you could do a spin DVD since there is not a lot of pulling at the incision while sitting on the bike.

I've had two c-sections and I remember knowing when I could move and do more by the way activity felt on my incision. Anything that felt like it was 'pulling' at my incision I didn't do.

Congrats on the new baby and boy oh boy do I wish I had felt like I even had the energy to workout with a five week old. You ROCK!!

Hey :)

First of all, congrats on the baby! Being a mama is the best thing ever! My little dude turned 13 months a couple days ago. Everyday is a new adventure. Enjoy every moment :)

Second of all, you rock for wanting to get back to working out! I too had a c-section and was so ready by six weeks, which was when my Dr have me the ok. I did some walking before that but remember just how excited I was to get back to Cathe. I started out with the low impact series but modified by slowing down the reps. Any core work was hard to do so I took it very easy in that area. Don't worry though you will get your full strength back in your abs unlike some people think. Step was hard for me at first which was a bummer since that is my favorite. You use your core a lot more than you think stepping up and down. I actually did Step Moves and Athletic Step without the step. Although it was a bit awkward it got me moving and feeling like I got a workout in. I didn't do much jumping for the first few weeks though. I modified alot. I also did yoga.

You will know when it's too much. Whenever I felt pulling at my incision I slowed down. If you have any questions let me know. I love talking working out, baby and c-section ;)

Congrats again on the baby :)

Thank you! I am totally amazed by my little guy. It is crazy how much they change and how quickly. He is starting to smile a little which is totally awesome! He sleeps well at night but he hates to nap, so finding time to workout has been challenge! Anyway, any advice you guys have would be great!

Sleeping well at night! That's great :) Don't worry about the napping, he will get into a routine soon enough.....and then it will change again ;) Don't worry about getting in workouts. You have plenty of time for that in the future. Enjoy that baby of yours. How cute that he is smiling! But if you really want to work out maybe try out the bouncer seat or swing. My boy loved watching me workout and the TV. Now-a-days I try to workout before he wakes up because now that he's on the move its makes working out while he's up a bit harder. Every so often I'll throw in a DVD and workout while he plays in the same room. Last week I put in Afterburn and he danced right along to the music. So adorable! You are going to love every stage so take them all in and enjoy it all :)

Do you have an iPad? If so these were some of B's favorite apps when he was a baby. They kept him well entertained, at certain times, while mama worked out.
