40 & over checkin - week of 10/26

Cathlete
Hi Everyone! If you didn't read the end of last week's checkin, I'm happy to report I'm going back to my regularly scheduled boring life....DH got a job within the same company!

I did Keith Weber's extreme kettlebell workout. This is only my 2nd time doing it and I did sooooo much better this time. I started out with a headache and 15 min in the headache was gone. Must have been all the huffing and puffing getting in oxygen. :p

I'm going to be taking Mon and Tues as rest days because I'll be going in to work both days. My boss is giving me my free nutrition evaluation, including a nutritional blood microscopy and Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis . I'm a little nervous the results won't be as good as I think they should be given all the exercising/good eating I've done this last year. I've tried to eat REAL GOOD this weekend too especially since I have to turn in a food diary!

Hi ALL,

Lisa, thats just great news. Congradulations to your DH.

Quick pop in for me today.

I'm starting a Fitness Freak rotation, last two weeks of one of her muscle building and defining rotation. I'll probably do the last two weeks twice through, simply because they look very endurancy and that seems to be working for me. I'm just a little bored with Jari, so I'll take a brake away from her. Rather than get sick of the workouts entirley because I really love the workouts.

Must dash, have a great day, all:D

Hi everyone! Lisa, that is such great news! What a relief for all of you. I hope your nurtitional eval goes well, I would be sooo scared! Andrea, let us know about fitness freak's rotations. Whenever I sneek a peek at their check-in, they do some hard workouts! Today I did Jari, ripped and chisled, it felt like it went on for an eternity. So, no more cheating on Cathe, I'll get back tomorrow! It is cold and rainy here, they said it might snow? I'm not ready!! Hi to all that follow, Have a good day. Mary

Hi all

Just caught up with last week's posts and wanted to say first of all, congrats to Lisa and DH! So pleased that things are sorted out for you both and you can get on with dealing with the normal everyday stuff!

Also thanks to Kathryn for giving me permission to whine away! The work started this morning and you're right, I can't work out while it's going on. It's not that they're into the workout space (i.e. the lounge) yet - it's that I work out during the day and there is no way on this earth I'm going to start huffing and puffing to Cathe with two builders outside the window! This week's a bit of a write-off as I'm at home with DD on half-term. But after that I'm thinking of joining a gym temporarily as the work is scheduled to the end of Feb!

I also read the news about your dad, Kathryn. It's always best to know the full picture, I think. At least you know what you're dealing with. I hope the treatment is successful.

Andrea/Mary - I like fitness freak's rotations, having tried a few. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Well, that turned into an essay. I'm going to fit in a bit of yoga this evening so at least I'll feel like I've done something.

See you tomorrow.

Just dropping by to say Hi to everyone. And I wanted to say
f80354254fe7721957041a276fca1794014ed9a_t.gif
for Lisa's situation and her getting to go back to regular boring life. ;)

Just because I don't post every day doesn't mean I still won't nose around all the time.

Keep up the good work girls!!!!

Hi, girls!

Okay, I broke down and ordered a kettlebell and workouts ... I just couldn't resist The Force of the Kettlebell, I guess. Now I hope I can keep from knocking myself unconscious while doing the workout!

Ronne, I remember feeling very annoyed at the workers because I couldn't even walk through my own house (or yard -- we had indoor and outdoor renovation) without an audience. I know they were only doing their job, but after 11 months of having workers around my house, I was ready to scream!

I am not kidding! I cooked breakfast, lunch, and dinner for them! I made them pitchers of margaritas. I sent them out for lunch. I got to know their kids, their spouses, and their immigration status! (Now who's whining?)

But I digress. Ronne, I think it's a good idea to join a gym on a short-term basis. Wish I'd thought of it, because I was seriously out of shape by the time I could get back to it!

Andrea, let us know how the rotation goes. I haven't ever done anybody' else's rotation. I'm interested to hear how it works for you.

Lisa, that's the kind of boredom that you could learn to love, isn't it? I think there a Chinese curse along the line of, "May you always live in interesting times." May yours be happily serene!

Rhondalyn, I'm glad to see you, if only for a visit. I think of you when I see the "Fit for T-day" thread!

Mary, I give you lots of credit for cheating on Cathe with Jari. I have all of Jari's DVDs, but can't stick with them long-term. Doing Cathe's workouts really spoils you for anything else. I really wish I could tie Jari's hair back off her face! Tell her to lighten up! I just can't pinpoint why she annoys me the way she does.

Vilma, hope all is well. Haven't heard from you lately, and don't recall seeing your name on any other thread. Hope you and all the rest of the family are healthy!

Okay, I've got to run. DS is sick (102-degree fever, coughing, the works!), so I have to be nurse for him. Wish I had real nursing experience so I'd feel more confident in my decisions.

By the way, I wimped out and did the Low-Impact Step routine (a first for me) this morning. It was on my schedule, I was tired. But tomorow I have the B&G leg pre-mix scheduled. Hope I survive. Hope I can get up in time. Hope I don't catch DS's illness! Goodnight, all!

Awww shucks Kathryn - I'm here but just in nasty TOM no energy for nothing mode although I did do CCPP +addon yesterday and The kettlebell Way today.

I'm plain exhausted from my busy weekend and today was hectic no time for personals but the family & I are all doing well except perhaps this mama needs some super B Vitamins or a blood transfusion ( thats a joke )

Huggles to all!

OHH Vilma, I am so hearing you re the nasty mood. Me too. I was really fed up by the end of my day at work today. Thats just not me. I'm seriously going to continue my investigatations into vitamin B and other natural things to take to help me sleep and help with these god awful hormone things. Actually, I'm giving my hormones away - free to any kinda home. Anyone interested?;)

It must be contagious!

I've been feeling the same way -- just cranky and annoyed with everything. My family bugs me because somebody always needs something. I'm having a hard time getting up to work out (but do anyway). I'm tired! I'm grouchy! I have PMS! No home for extra hormones here -- I've already got more than I can deal with!

And by the way, why is it that after 15 years of marriage, I still have to remind my husband when it's that time of the month? Can he not remember from one month to the next?

Well, I've got to go to a meeting this morning (ugh), so I guess I'd better eat and pull myself together. I hope this goes away soon for all of us!

I reckon it's the start of the winter blues! The clocks just went back here so it's starting to get dark around 5.

Andrea - thanks for the hormone offer but I'll pass this time!

Kathryn - my DH is the opposite. More 'Isn't it time ...?' Sometimes he's more on the ball than I am!!
No wonder your work went on for 11 months if you were looking after the workers so well! Mine are getting cups of tea and that's it! Actually, the two blokes doing the groundwork are really nice - it's all still outside at the
moment so I don't mind so much. Oh and good luck with that B&G premix - it's a killer!

Rhondalyn - nice to see you popping in! Hope the check-in is keeping you on the straight and narrow:)

Hi to Vilma and the rest of the gang.

No fair!

Ronne, how come your clocks went back already? Ours didn't, and I'm leaving before sunrise these days!

What happened to Daylight Savings Time? Doesn't that usually occur in October? My body has already adapted, so I am really not ready to get up at 5 a.m. because it feels like 4 a.m.!

It's cold here today  and I've heard rumors of snow in the north GA mountains. Brrrrr.

Well, off to get another sweater. Have a good day, all!

Hi all! Hope all is well with everyone, maybe the crabbies are going around, I too am out of sorts and it is not that time yet! At least it better not be!! Today I did LowMax, fun for the most part, my tri's and hamstrings are talking to me today after the endless reps with Jari yesterday! I too can get annoyed with Jari, I would like her to eat a little more! Kathryn, it is cold here today too, very windy, they say snow later. What is funny is my DH will tell me when I am getting my period! He can tell b/c I get a terrible urge to clean! I wish the time would change soon, I hate going to work in the complete dark, the birds aren't even up yet! Andrea, if you find anyone to take your hormones, would you ask if they want mine too? Ronne, hope all is well, how is your ankle? Lisa, how did the nutritional eval go? Give us the scoop! Hey Rhondalyn, we miss you!! Hey Vilma hope that you found some energy. I think it is the weather change. Have a good night. Mary

Hey Y'all....sorry it's taken be so long to post....been busy with work (it's all so cool though).

I did PUB this morning...I think I'm about ready to up the weights again....woo hoo!

Sorry to hear the grumpies are going around with you all. I hear ya! I had them last week, so glad they are gone now.

The nutrional consult was very interesting. The highlights:
1. my body fat percentage is 23% ! She said that is good for someone my age (44) and that I'm in the fitness category. I was happy with 23%....I don't think I've seen many of those in her practice. You can see the categories here:
http://www.thedietchannel.com/Body-Fat-Percentage-For-Women.htm

I've also lost yet another pound in the last month or so, so I'm 2 lbs under my goal. So what I'm doing continues to generate good results.

Now onto the nutrition and the less than stellar news. Yes I was very skeered of finding info on my blood about this. Here I thought I was doing good, well, I am but there's room for improvement. It's amazing what she can see in a drop of blood!
1. I have "collapsed" cells (they look like targets).....I need more fish oils. One fish oil pill a day isn't cutting it....need to up to 3. I knew that but didn't know why!

2. I have varying red blood cells shapes. For the most part they are good and not sticky (they don't glob together which would signal bigger digestion issues), but there are signs of not getting enough B vitamins and that the cells are not in a state to absorb the nutrients. SO, she has me on probiotics because if we fix the cells being able to absorb the nutrients then the B vitamins I currently get may get into the cell. She said right now we could throw all the B vitamins in my system but the cells would not absorb. These are the probiotics I'm taking:
http://www.thegreenherb.com/fos.htm ( I swear the powder tastes like a communion wafer when I put it in my mouth).

3. Some signs that I need more VEGETABLES! ARG! Not too bad though, so we are waiting until I'm thru with my current multivitamin and then I will take hers that has a multi AND antioxidents for the lack of veggies.

4. Signs of yeast.....ugh....questioned me on the fact that my food journal didn't have much sweets and wondered why she saw it (uh, I lied a bit...whoops! Who would have thought that a little-1" square piece of cake for 2 days and 8 M&M's for 1 day would matter so much!) She caught me in my lie! So, probiotics will help there too, and then if that doesn't help there are other things we can do. She said the yogurt I'm eating isn't helping as the sugar in it (I get the lowest one) cancels out the good bacteria. I need to reduce my sugar, but I really don't consume that much! It hides in lots of stuff....so, I guess I need to watch the yogurt. Mine has 14 grams sugar,,,,,she told me that for every 4 grams is 1 tsp of sugar. YIKES! Oh and sugar can show up as a yeast infection, bladder infection, etc...I've never had those. Said dry skin and dry patches especially on back of upper arms are signs of yeast. Don't have that either. Said the probiotics will help here too.

5. And now the embarassing part....I have some parasites in my blood. I guess everyone can have them and fights them off, but I show a few in my one itty bitty drop of blood. Said it could be from the stress (naw, I haven't been under any stress, right?) So it's a wait and see approach there. It's just a bit embarrassing....parasites?!?@?

Another interesting thing to note is that she said as we age it's hard for the cells to maintain their good health and that is where taking probiotics help. You need them more as you age. If our cells could stay at their optimium forever we would never age.

That's the best I can explain everything in layman's terms. It was very interesting, I just wish I could remember more!

Oh and one more thing, the fish oils also help with brain clarity, memory, and cell health.

I do personals another day! Hope this wasn't too long of a read!

Lisa!

Lisa, where did you go to get all of that testing done? I wouldn't even know who to see to get that kind of analysis. I'm accustomed to "cholesterol, triglycerides, etc. etc." But I think your analysis would give me much more valuable info.

Thanks for sharing all of that personal info!

She is a Holistic Nutritionist. Boulder, CO is known for their healthy status and nutritionists are pretty abundant. Her website is www.insightnutritionboulder.com so that may help you find the type of person you need to find in your area. The website is brand new and we are still trying to get it up and running. I'm responsible for some of it too! I put up all her healthy tips on her blog (go check it out), and now I'm working on getting the products on her online store. Her goal is to get her store going well because the nutritional consults take a long time (mine was 2 hrs) and so she recommends supplements where appropriate. The nice thing is that she doesn't push anything and always wants you to use up your existing product because she hates waste (another Boulder thing).

Hi all,

Lisa that was very interesting, thanks. I went to the green herb and read up on the Prebiotic, sounds like we should all be taking something like that. The only thing I didn't like was that the FOS helps to breakdown and rebuild hormones!! I don't want mine rebuilt! I want them GONE!;)

Hi,

I was the last to post yesturday and the first to post today.:D

Very quick post for me, i'm at work.

Todays workout was my brand new Low Impact Circuit DVD. I loved it!! Awesome workout! Its my new favourite!

Must dash, bye.

Hi all

Well, at last today it looks like I will get a workout in! Hooray for me. I don't know what it's going to be yet - probably some kind of circuit as I want to try and do everything!

Kathryn - I'm in the UK. Our clocks go back at the end of October. We also got some snow locally - first time at this time of year for 70 years! Hope you're not too cold.

Lisa - that's a thorough evaluation!

Mary - which Jari are you using at the moment? I've got S&L but have never bought any more as they all look a bit similar.

Andrea - LIC is great, isn't it? I always forget how much I enjoy it till I go back to it.

Hope all have a good day.

Good morning, everybody! Today I did Hardcore Extreme Hi-Lo Intervals. I was thinking, "gosh, this isn't so bad," and then I arrived at the KickMax drills.

Okay, it was hard. Also frustrating about that workout: The DVD skips and stalls at the KickMax portion of the workout. I had this problem with an old one, bought another one, and that one does the same thing. So I gave up and put in KickMax and picked it up from the chapter menu. The problem with that is that it's way too tempting to just stop there and not bother with the drills!

Speaking of tough, I did the both ab sections of Amy Bento Advanced Step 3. I thought they weren't really that tough, but I am feeling it two days later! I'm not sure if it was the kettlebell (I substituted a dumbbell), the tubing, or both, but I am sore! I thought I was in pretty good shape, but I guess not. And I'm still tripping over my feet with her choreography. I've managed to get through 3 of the routines; have a couple more to go. I keep finding myself on the wrong side of the step, the wrong foot, going the wrong way. But I'll get it someday!

Ronne: Freezing here -- literally! I've been battling my 8-year-old daughter, who is going through a no-coat thing. I don't know why I bother, except that she'll get sick, I'll have to take care of her, then I'll catch it, then I'll be really mad at her ... I hope it's just a phase. If we're doing this now, can't wait until she's a teenager!

Anyway, I agree with you on Jari. I have all of her videos and they really are all very similar. I wish I'd stopped at one because they're pretty much interchangeable.

Off to work -- late!

(By the way, what is a troll? I figured it's safe to ask here. I see the term pop up from time to time and but don't want to ask in case that makes me look like one!)

Kathryn, You, my sweet, are most certainly NOT a troll.

Troll is used as aterm for people deliberatley jumping into threads and trying to stir up trouble/cause arguments/fights. They usually don't post very often, pop in cause the trouble, pop out.
