40 & over checkin - week 7/27

Cathlete
Just getting the thread started for the upcoming week.

It's a rest day for me and my body needs it after CCPP Sat and my wild workout on Friday with the KB's.

BBL with personals.

Hi everyone,

Everything went well with my implant removal surgery. It hurt so bad! Yesterday and today though I didn't have to take any drugs for pain. Since the surgery I don't like to eat much except maybe liquids. I tried sold foods, and it didn't make me feel well.

I'm glad this is done and now all I have to do is take 6 weeks for a complete recovery.

I can't believe how weak I am. I'm moving slow motion. I can feel getting stronger everyday.

Sorry for no personals, I need to feel better then I will.

Take care everyone,

Janie

Hi girls,

Quick post for me before I go to work. I took an unplanned rest week last week so back into it this week.

Isn't it depressing at just how quickly the weight hits the body after 42yrs. That was my "trouble age" Now, I've got to get to and lose it! AND thats very hard!:(

Hi Lisa - did you notice heaps of people have joined in the over 40 social group? Has anyone worked out what that actually does?

Janie- Take it easy. Thats a major operation you've had! You will feel well again soon! In a couple of days, you will be feeling much better. Take care of yourself and rest. I know that the following is an awful thing to say but sometimes I wish I could catch the not interested in eating food disease! But nope, I'm as healthy as an ox! I love food- obssessed with eating. Janie, take care sending you hugs and kisses and get well soon vibes:):).

Hi All!

Just checking in to say greetings and hope you've had a good weekend.:)

Janie, surely hope you feel better soon!

Lisa, thanks for starting us out this week. Today's rest for me, too.

Is anyone starting a new rotation for August that you can share? I'm trying to decide what to do.

Can you tell me why you had them removed? were you having problems with them? hope I'm not being too nosy. I have them too, and at this point don't have any concerns with them.

I had them done for the first time in '89 and a 2nd time in '96 I think. I had capsular contraction. And I wanted to remove the silicone and go to saline. although not long after getting them the first time I got ezema and thought it was from the implants but it wasn't, i had remembered having eczema in elementary school and then my older and younger sister ended up getting eczema not long after me to, must of been a family thing.

Hello ladies,

This was a rest weekend for me. I did plan on doing CCPP on Saturday and probably would have but I couldn't find it. I must have accidently deleted it from my Nano. But I was tired anyway and when I couldn't find it, it was an excuse for me to not do anything. :( I had a sleepover for 6 of my girlfriends from church on Friday and I didn't get much sleep. So it didn't take much to make me decide to rest. ;)

I hope to get a w/o in early tomorrow. I have to take a friend to the doctor for some tests and will be gone most of the day and have a meeting tomorrow night so I really need to get one in early.

Janie, I'm glad that all went well with your surgery.

Andrea, I hear you about the wt. DH is coming on board with me now though so I hope it will be easier to eat cleaner. He usually likes to eat out so much that it makes it hard.

Penny, Lucy, Lisa and everyone else. I hope everyone is ready for a new week. Let's try to make it a great one!

Thank you for the warm replies. It's nice to get on the forums and see that people care.

Penny, I had silicone implants put in over 33 years ago. Now as we all know silicone is very harmful to our bodies. I felt that I needed to get them out before complications set in. Even though the doctor who put them in told me these implants would last my life time. How things change in 33 years. From what I understand when they took my implants out, one of them was leaking as soon as it came out. I don't know this for sure until I see the my surgeon on Tues. Then he'll tell me all about it. If they did leak when inside me, then I'm sure they got everything out. I'll post a blog and tell the whole story. Not a pretty story either, a few complications to tell.

Will talk later,

Janie

surgery

yes, please keep us updated. I hope that they started to leak after they were pulled out (even thou that could just be wishful thinking). I think I am so interested because I have them also (even thou mine are saline now) and hearing about other's experiences keeps me informed.

thanks Janie, have a great week!

Hi ladies.

Not much of a workout happening here:(! I find it hard to work all day, come home, run around after the children, muck out my stable, feed the horse and change rugs, cook dinner, bathe the childs, chat to hubby, (who gets all "hurt" if I don't give him some time - MEN!!! ) AND then finally, complete a workout. Nope. Too old for that! Time to go to bed with a book:)

Penny and Janie - I have heard stories a long time ago now of the silcon implants leaking and I thought at the time "they" (those who know everything,"they") advised having the implants removed? Is that right?

Janie - Hope you are starting to feel a little better, Gosh, it sounds like you've had a bit of a rough time! Poor chicken:(, hang in there!

Pugw - Whats a Nano? Hey, a sleepover sounds like heaps of fun!!:)

Lucy and Lisa - Did you enjoy your rest day?

Hi to anyone else who happens to drop in.

Today I did On The Edge. It's a new KB w/o by Lauren Brooks. I liked it. I did the 40 minute sculpt and conditioning w/o and it worked me just fine. It has one minute rests between sets and I welcomed them. My cardio endurance is not what it used to be or probably should be. It always tickles me when I hear others say how these are too easy and they fill the breaks in with other exercises.

This old lady needs them.:D I played around with different wts during the w/o and tried to go as heavy as I could.

Andrea, a nano is a mini iPod. :)

Rest up Janie.

Hello all! I just got done with 4DS HIS/Chest & Back. I'm doing the 4DS series this week and then after Cathe posts her next rotation I'll decide if I'm going to do that one or select something else.

Rhondalyn,
Your workout room is gorgeous. Can I come workout with you? ;) Yes, AOS-Providence and KB way is basically the same KB workout. My body hurt so good the next day. Then after doing CCPP, my body was in shock and totally shut down Sat night saying that it needed to rest and rebuild some cells!

Janie,
Glad your surgery went well. Take care of yourself and make sure to get plenty of recovery time.

Andrea,
Oh, yes, this body totally enjoyed and needed the rest day! I was just reflecting as to how much harder it is to lose weight in the 40s vs when I did it in my 30s. I really think tracking my nutrition is helping me focusing better on eating well.

To everyone else and all who follow, have a great day!

Hi Ladies :)

I had a rough week last week getting enough workouts in. I seem to get one full body weight workout in and a few days of walking. I know it's not enough to get the weight off so I hope to make more time this week. Today was a good start. I did Push Pull during my little guy's nap and then did a 4 mile walk tonight with my friend. I forgot how few rests there are in Push Pull!

Rhondalyn - I totally agree about being amazed by people who fill in the breaks. Hey for me I have to create more! I have to read up on the KB stuff. I see alot of posts lately but haven't really learned enough about the workouts. Do they have a different effect on your muscles than traditional weights do?

Janie - I am sorry to hear you had a rough time but glad the surgery was successful. The good thing is you will feel better and better each day and be good as new in no time. I have had the displeasure of having a few surgeries myself. Hang in there and treat yourself well.

Andrea - I also hear you about losing weight! It's been so hard for me but we just have to keep up the fight!

Lisa - Are you doing the cardio from the 4DS series or something else? That is one of the few Cathe series that I don't have...yet LOL! It actually sounds like it would be a good one to fit my busy life at the moment. That is also one reason I did go ahead and preorder STS. I know I have a long way to go to be in great shape but the 3 weight workouts per week really appealed to me. I think that is doable. I hope I can figure out all the 1rep things and all the other technical stuff that goes with it.

Hi to all the other ladies out there that I didn't get to!

Well I have enjoyed all your posts and am glad to be back and around. You all inspire me to work harder! Have a great night.

Alison :)

Hi everyone, Haven't been here for a while. I don't know what I have been doing, however we have been busy! Janie, hope that you are feeling better and more like yourself, the surgery and anesthesia can take a toll. Lisa , I didn't know where my workouts were going to go this week and you inspired me to do 4DS, I might have to wait to thank you tho, (see how it goes!!). I'm sorry , can't remeber everyone else's posts!! Hope all is well with all of you, I need to get my baby to summer school. Last week, thank gooodness. Have a good day. Mary

Hi everyone,

I hurt my back moving boxes and have been out of commission. I hope to be back on my feet in another day or two. I have been spending so much time on this site it is crazy! Am I the only one?

Hi All,

Murphy, I hope your back is better soon!

I've been pretty busy lately but things will calm down once summer is over. My workouts have been spotty this week and I am anxious to get back on track. Checking in sure helps me!

My eating has been mostly clean but what I really need to do is get up early and do my workouts. If I wait till later in the day, too may other things come up to sidetrack me.

Talk later!

Hi again, I guess I am making up for lost time, all ready posting 2x in one day! I was going to do 4DS, however I looked at the clock and time was short, so I did legs from the timesaver dvd, I bought it and have never used it, well the leg portion was like 45 min and it did a good job in a short amount of time. I think I will try the other 4 workouts this week. Murphy, hope your back feels better soon. Lucy good for you with your eating. I need to discipline myself more about food, if there is a choice between a banana and a cookie guess which one I'm picking? Mary

Over 40,s

Hi everone I'm 41 and would love to join you on this forum!!! I have been with Cathe for 2 years and attended last years RT. Having trouble with the old belly right now too much around the middle it crept up after I turned 41. What's the deal??? Anyone else going through this?? Would love to check in with you all and hopefully get this tamed!!! Teresa

Hi Teresa, and welcome to the forum!

I have the exact same problem around the middle. I'm adding extra Ab work in three times a week plus regular workouts. I wonder if 3x/wk is enough or should I go for 5x a week?

Hello all. I just completed 4DS Kickbox/Legs. I was kinda tired through it but I pushed myself. The weight seems to be falling off lately. I'm down 3 lbs from a week ago. So only 3 lbs from goal weight so I revised it 3 lbs less. I think 135 is the lowest I can realistically get to at 5' 5" and over 40! Then I'll need to focus on even more muscle. That will be a shift from what I've done the last 7 months.

Alison,
Yes, I'm doing the combined cardio of 30 min and weights 30 min on the 4DS series. It's a nice change to do only 30 min of cardio a day instead of a whole hr long session. It would fit nicely into a busy schedule, so go get it!

Mary,
I'm glad to have been an inspiration to your workout. So many on here are an inspiration to me. I could not be where I am without this site and all the knowledgable people.

Murphy,
Love your avatar! Yes this site is addicting, if you get the nutrition it is even more so. I'm tweaking my meals so much thru the day.

Lucy,
Love your avatar as well, it fits you somehow. :D;)

Teresa,
Welcome. Yes the ole belly bulge. I swear I have to work harder and eat smarter now.

Hello to all others who follow as well. Have a great day!

Today I did Cardio Step/Kick-Boxing with KCM. I love this w/o. It's so much fun and one of my favorites.

I'm hoping Cathe will work on the w/o manager some. I'm finding it hard to track my w/os on the calendar unless I do a Cathe w/o. I like to do a variety and this won't be a lot of help to me until I start STS anyway.

Lisa
, thanks and, yes, you absolutely can come w/o with me. :D Three more pounds?

Good for you. Are you counting calories or what?

Alison, here's what Anthony(AoS) says about them.

How is kettlebell training different from traditional weight lifting?

Kettlebell training concentrates on movement patterns that incorporate the whole body moving through functional ranges of motion. Traditional weightlifting is just that ... lifting a weight and moving it from one point to another in a limited range of motion and using specific muscles in isolation. Kettlebell training is designed to maximize the bodies metabolic rate to enhance fat loss and improve fitness rapidly.

I'm spending a lot of time here, too. Heck, I used to not even post.

Lucy, I find I do better doing my w/os in the morning also. It's just too easy to not do them if I don't get them done and out of the way. I think 3 x week is enough for your abs. Personally, I think your abs get worked a lot with other w/os as well. It's all about the diet with me. It doesn't matter how many ab w/os I do, it never makes a difference unless I clean up the eating.

It's hormones. They're evil! I'm 2 years post menopausal now and I've definitely noticed an increase in my abdominal fat. I'm presently working on reducing it.
