Happy Friday, sportsfans - just wanted to share my annual personal tidbit with my friends in fitness: today I celebrate 20 years of sobriety and freedom from the deadly (for me) effects of alcohol! (That's 240 months, aka 7,305 days, aka 175,320 hours, aka 10,519,200 minutes for all you math majors out there.)
This year has been one of hellos and goodbyes for The Bald One. Last summer I had to say goodbye to the gym where I taught aqua aerobics for so long, due to an acquisition by a competitor chain, and this past March I said goodbye to traditional group fitness instruction in general. However, I said hello to a private aqua workout group that has inspired me to even greater intensity heights in the pool. I said goodbye to a compelling job that I had had for almost 8 years, and said hello to an even more compelling job (with a whopping increase in salary to boot). I said goodbye to a mortgage and car loan, and said hello to . . . well, a helluva lot more discretionary income. On top of that, DH survived some surgery with the happy news that he DOESN'T have bladder cancer, and I developed a really delightful light new layer of perimenoflab on the midsection that tells me I survived to this age. Back on July 19, 1987 my chances of surviving to 46 were not great given how I was drinking.
Although I lurk a bit more now than I post, I still love being among people who take responsibility for their health and fitness via intelligent, intense exercise. We active people, who manage to fight lethargy and self-indulgence, are in the minority, just like alcoholics who abstain from alcohol are in the minority. We gotta stick together, folks.
Thanks for reading this, and have a great day!
