2 weeks on the Abs Diet--update

LauraMax

Cathlete
I've lost 4 lbs. Not as dramatic as Atkins--after 2 weeks I'd lost about 10 lbs. But I must admit I am enjoying foods I haven't eaten for YEARS while I was on Atkins.

And some foods I'd never even heard of. I am now officially an almond fanatic! First my discovery of almond butter, now almond milk! :9 Holy moly, how in the world did I make it to the age of 40 without almond milk? That stuff is awesome! :)

That's fantastic! It's so nice to hear that you're doing so well and enjoying such yummy goods!

I haven't tried almond milk either . . . I may need to pick some up when I'm at Trader Joe's today!:9

Good work! I have heard of the Abs Diet but I don't know the specifics. Where can I get more information?

Colleen

Hi Laura,

Have you noticed any positive effects with regard to workout performance and/or energy levels?

Hi Gayle--yes, I think so. It's hard to tell b/c allergies are just KILLING me this year! (when in god's name will this pollen be gone???????) Not much difference w/weight training but the cardio seems like it's easier, plus I do seem to feel better throughout the day. Also I seem to LOOK better. I think low carb was dehydrating me or something. I really only ate 2 meals a day plus a snack or two on Atkins. Now that I'm eating 6 times a day, taking in a lot more fluids, making a conscious effort to drink more water, my skin appears healthier.

Although that could also be a result of the time of year, since it's not as dry these days.

ETA: Colleen, I think if you search the forums you can find some info. There's also the Abs Diet book, which I read cover to cover before I started the diet.

I just bought the book from Amazon, I've been wanting to read it for a while! Glad that it's working for you!

The Abs Diet For Women is already available, but in hardback. I got mine when it came out in 2007. I've been rereading it so I can start it (never did it -- just read the book :+). Glad to hear it's getting good results!

I just ordered the Abs Diet Ultimate Nutrition Handbook. I went with super saver shipping, so should get it next week. I'm hoping it will be helpful.

I'll be on the lookout for almond milk.

LauraMax: I'm in Jersey, too, and I'm suffering terribly with allergies this year. Is it worse, or is it me? I can't go a day without taking Claritin D. The inside of my mouth gets so itchy that I find myself scratching it with my tongue during the day. I hate to be taking meds every day, but I honestly can't function without them. I'm so ready for this to be over!

>Great job LauraMax! Keep up the good work.

And, thanks to Top Chef, I now know how to pronounce "edamame!"

Congrats to you, LauraMax. I did really great on Abs Diet, too. Until I completely fell off the wagon. I haven't gained back but I haven't lost, either. But, as of tonight, I'm back on the wagon. I did my first workout in months: GSLegs. I'm wobbly as heck and already in pain.

BTW, I know how to pronounce it but... what IS it and what do you do with it?

Green soybeans.

The typical way to preparing them as a snack is to boil the edamame in the shell, with a bit of salt, then pop the beans into your mouth (take part of the shell in your mouth, squeeze it open, and eat the beans).

You can also shuck edamame (or buy it preshucked) and use in salads, soups, etc.

Edamame tastes a bit like a cross between a pea and a green bean, IMO.

Lynda, it is most definitely worse! Last year was my first year for allergies & it only lasted about 2 weeks. This year it's been at least a month & still going strong. It must end soon, right? x(

Hi Laura!

Congrats! I caved in and started the Abs Diet Online yesterday and I really enjoy the selection of food - and how much I'm actually eating! I wanted to shake up my diet (growing tired of cottage cheese!) and this is definitely what I needed. I was, however, very surprised at the amount of carbs I took in yesterday (224) and the lack of protein (74) so I'm going to tweak the diet a little bit to suit my protein needs. Also, I believe I'm still under my caloric needs for the day as the diet has me in the high 1400s to mid 1500s so there's room to add a protein shake. I'm excited to (hopefully) break through this plateau with the Abs Diet :7

Hey Jess!
Hahaha...yeah I am really happy with the food choices. I just wanted some new ideas and this really keeps me full all day - I'm constantly eating }( FYI, I'm in week 4 of P90X... not taking the "week off" as recommended. I'm just subbing in Cathe's cardio work. LOVING P90X though...I didn't think I'd be crazy about Tony but boy was I wrong! He's sooo drreeammmyyy, hehehee.

Well so far I'm not entirely sure it's effective. I lost 4 lbs the first 2 weeks & then nada. Possibly that 4 lbs was just water weight. As good as the food is I'm definitely tweaking the diet--basically cutting out the morning & afternoon snacks--b/c I'm so tired of depriving myself for nothing.

This is getting extremely frustrating. I mean, if you can't lose weight with diet & exercise HTF else are you supposed to do it? x(

Hi Laura :)

It DOES seem like a lot of food but after logging everything into Sparkpeople the numbers still come out pretty low..calorie wise... like I said, I was concerned with the carbs and lack of protein. I just ate 2 slices of bread and roast beef for my morning *snack.* But we'll see... The calories still average out at approx. 1500/day and I'm going to *add* to it because my activity level is so high.. don't give up! When I saw your post I was really motivated to stick to the diet :) Others have gotten great results with the Abs Diet..hopefully we can join them!
