1RM Tests - Can't get myself to do them!

I've done 5-6 but have found it to really intrude upon my regular workouts. Plus I'm not entirely sure I'm doing the right moves at times, so I'm not sure what I'll do. Most times I've guessed wrong and then had to wait the 5 minutes to restart etc... I guess I could just dedicate a Saturday to doing them and bang out a lot with chores in between. ;)

I can't bring myself to get involved in this at all. I know I am going to wing it the first time thru and get a feel for the workouts and then maybe after a break take a more serious look at just what I am supposed to do. Also I just hope this comes with written instructions and suggestions on using the series. I do much better with written word in a booklet or whatever. Plus I have been able to lift heavier lately so I am afraid that I would have to do it all over again when they finally arrive. I might not be doing these on any serious level until after the New Year.

It's highly unlikely that I will do the 1 RM's either-not my thing. I simply won't have the patience for it. I will probably just guesstimate what weight I can handle. I've been lifting weights with Cathe for almost 4 years now so I think I can do a decent job of it. ;)

I'm worried that whatever my max is now won't be my max by the time STS ships. But that may also be an excuse. Frankly, I don't know what most of those exercises are. I think I know, but then I try to picture them in my head and then I'm not sure. Bottom line is - there are a freaking boatload of them and I have no idea what I'm doing.

Anyone know when the tutorial is supposed to come out? Because if it's the one on the workout manager - I have news for you, I didn't learn a darn thing....

I have only done a few...that was months ago...I need to finish but have been procrastinating(?spelling) I guess it has to be soon..only a few weeks left..I wish I had a list of just STS exercises

none for me

Hi,

I won't be doing the 1rm. I have a good idea of what I can lift and I'll just have to adjust as I go along. I can always add or subtract a rep or two to get the desired feeling. I don't have the time nor desire to do all of those tests and I'm very close to where I want to be for my upper body anyway. I feel very confindent that I will still get good results.

My vehicle/excuse for procrastination has been to wait until there's an actual ship date for the STS series. Until then, it's not really real, if you know what I mean. It's been so long now that I'm not feeling any pressure at all to do it.

Once I know the series is on its way, then I will get on board (at least that's what I'm telling myself!:p) We shall see. Just come on already with a shipping date, I say!

I don't have very heavy dumbbells at the moment (20 lb. is the highest) and after working out with Cathe for a while and progressing in strength, I doubt I have heavy enough weights to test 1RM for the large muscles. Too lazy to take time checking each exercise also. ;) So I think I too will just gauge everything as with the other videos.

You might consider getting dumbells similar to a barbell where you can add weights. I have a set and they are great. Even better is to get 1 1/4 plates so that you can add weight for upper body in small increments (ex. go from 15 to 17 1/2 or 20 to 22 1/2 lbs) which promotes progress without injury.

thank you thank you

Thanks, Dela for posting the link to the spreadsheet for the 1RM tests! I was getting ready to do it myself and was too tired :). I'm still a paper and pen kinda gal, then I will go and enter the results in the web app..it's good to see that I'm not the only one putting this off for a bit :)
