15 Years of Sobriety!

Aquajock

Cathlete
Good morning, all! I made a similar post last year at this time, except of course the number was 14 years . . .

This past weekend I marked 15 years of freedom from alcohol, if not alcoholism. Spent it teaching an aqua class to the strains of one of my favorite music tapes (a souped-up version of some of the classics from the great masters), conversating :) with the hubster, previewing my new Powerstrike vids, doing a 3-hour monster workout on Sunday, reading a book about Kennedy and Nixon . . . you know, all things you can do when you're not in a perpetual hangover or haze.

This is the time of year when I count my blessings all over again, and truly the greatest blessing I ever got was that little voice inside me on July 20, 1987 that said, "I can't do this today," and on July 21, 1987 "I didn't do it yesterday, and I won't do it today."

It's wonderful to be a part of these forums!

Have a great day!

Annette,

It's wonderful people on this forum are so open. Many, many congratulations on your 15th year! I too am a recovering alcoholic and celebrated my 13th year on April 4th. Boy do I ever remember the perpetual haze and hangovers. Isn't it great to be able to read, workout, and conversate?

I read your posts daily and you truly are a fountain of great information. I have mentioned on this forum before that I am a certified personal trainer, but due to kidney failure I am unable to work outside of the home. I am able to do Cathe's workouts and I consider that one of the greatest blessings of my life!

Again, congratulations and have a wonderful day!

Sherry

Congratulations Annette!!
You should be very proud of yourself - what a great accomplishment!

RE: Annette & Sherry!

I can only piggyback on what everyone else has already said :)
Congratulations to both of you, and any other forum members who are successfully defeating alcoholism. You continue to be an inspiration to me as well as others Annette, I'm so glad I "know" you. :)

Donna

p.s. wait a minute, did you say "previewing a powerstrike video?" Did you break down and catch "the fever?" Have you done it yet, if so, which one and what were your thoughts?

RE: Sherry - YOU ROCK!

CONGRATULATIONS to you on 13 years! Isn't it amazing how much fun life can be "sober"?

Congratulations to you as well for maintaining your fitness - the Cathe way - in the face of some serious physical challenges like kidney failure! You are AWESOME!

RE: Annette & Sherry!

Congratulations on your sobriety! That is an amazing feat and you should be very proud of yourselves. :)

And Annette, I echo what the others have already said. You always offer invaluable advice and wisdom here and I always enjoy reading your posts. :)

RE: Getnfit@38 - Powerstrike

I haven't done either of them yet; I'm saving the first one for this Thursday, which is the day I'm most apt to blow off a workout. I've gotta say I am absolutely drooling with anticipation - I know enough about kickboxking (except how to spell it) to know what pile-drivers Ilaria and Patricia are. Also can't wait for the pre-sale on Powerstrike Millenium #3 to ensue . . .

Thanks for your kind words!

Annette

You did answer some of my questions too -- thank you!

Fantastic! I love a post like this. I lived with 2 alcoholics, one who quit and one who I doubt has. You're an example to all of us.

Cigarettes were my demon, and I quit those ten years ago on September 1, 1992,(I used the patches).

Woo-hoo!!! :-jumpy

Glad you made that decision 15 years ago - what would all of us here on the forum do without you!

Lorrie

Congratulations to all who have overcome their "demons". You are true inspirations and great role models.

Keep it up!
Shelley :)

RE: You all are too nice!

Thanks to all of you for your words of encouragement! I've gotta tell ya, the Cathe forums are about the only ones I can stand to go onto anymore; there's so little vanity / ego here but / and so much encouragement.

I'm glad some find my posts helpful; I know I find others' posts very helpful - especially in the area of what to buy next! (Can you spell P-O-W-E-R-S-T-R-I-K-E?)

Just a note to anyone who may feel she has a problem with alcohol: there is a wealth of information and help and hope for you! (One of the great blessings of living in America.) Take care of yourself!
