    digital food scale/heart rate monitor

I've been using a food scale for years, it really helps me know how much I'm eating. It's fast and easy to use, and particularly for calorie dense foods such as nuts, it's a good way to keep portion control in check. I have used a heart rate monitor in the past but I didn't like the chest...

Debating on where to live/move - need advice!

I'd get the place close to work. You'd be gaining hours of free time every week. Also, now is probably not your only chance to live in the city. There will probably be an opportunity somewhere down the road to live in the city when it will make sense on every level.

    Protein?

Whey makes me bloat like crazy and feel nauseous (I don't eat any dairy either for the same reason), but I do drink a post-workout shake with non-whey protein powder in it, after both cardio and strength workouts. The protein source varies between soy and a rice/pea blend.

    Wheat free/lower carb--any success?

There is not one particular brand of tempeh I like, I just make sure it's made with organic soy, and I stay away from multigrain tempeh because it often contains wheat. Beans are a great carb/protein -- filling and lots of fiber! :)

How to change rotations to workout 3-4 times a week?

Maybe you could just eliminate some of the workouts, for example if the generic makeup of an existing rotation is something like this: M: Cardio T: Total Body strength W: Cardio Th: Lower body workout F: Circuit Sat: Upper body Sun: Off You could take out a cardio and the upper...

    Wheat free/lower carb--any success?

I have been (mostly) avoiding wheat for several years, once I realized that it made me tired, bloated, and exacerbates my seasonal allergies. (I say "mostly" because I'll eat wheat for certain special exceptions, like my favorite pizza restaurant, or the naan in a really good Indian restaurant.)...

    Critique my Rotation...enough shoulder work??

Makes sense to me! I go light on shoulder-specific work too, but for a different reason. Due to past injuries, my shoulders remain vulnerable during isolation exercises. I keep them busy supporting chest and back work, and if I do any isolated shoulder work, I use REALLY light weights, like...

    Great Stretch DVD

I just did Lastics for the first time (ordered it based on reading this thread!) and I love it. I'm looking forward to the long term results. But just from doing it once -- and only the first half! -- I feel terrific. Like my muscles are warm, long, and happy. :D Also, my 14yo daughter did it...

    Barbell vs dumbbell (advice please)

If space and money isn't an issue, it's nice to have a barbell, but not necessary. I hardly use my barbell these days. I bought a 15-lb. barbell at Play It Again Sports for $20, and a variety of 2.5, 5, and 10-lb. plates that I bought at the same time (don't remember how much) -- I used them for...

    Afterburn: Two Thumbs Up!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has to hit the pause button a few times during this workout! I just did it today, and for some reason needed to pause it more than normal. I made it through, but wow, I feel like I've been through the ringer. In a good way, of course... AfterBurn is my favorite...

    Owww

Athletic Training is on my schedule for tonight, so I'm not far behind you with the "Owww!" I'm ready for a good butt-kicking, because yesterday I just did some yoga. :)

What was your first Cathe workout video?

I'm pretty new to Cathe, relatively speaking. My first Cathe workout was Low Max on DVD, and I bought it in 2009 from the Collage website. The amount of equipment needed for most of Cathe's other workouts intimidated me, but I had a step and I had heard good things about Cathe. I loved her so...

One month into LIS: Functional improvements

Mini-natty, I've only been doing LIS this past month. My joints are really appreciating the break!

One month into LIS: Functional improvements

I've been doing a LIS rotation for a month (mostly like Cathe's LIS Nov. rotation, but modified to fit my schedule) and the most dramatic change I notice is that my functional fitness has improved noticeably, more so than at any other time in my life. I've been fit and working out regularly for...

    missing Cedie

I've been loving LIS, and last night my 13yo daughter joined me for Turbo Barre. It was her first LIS workout, and the first thing she said was, "Where's Cedie?! She's my favorite!!" I thought it was so cute, because she actually doesn't work out with me very often (she's busy with gymnastics)...

    TurboBarre

I just did this workout for the first time tonight -- LOVED it! -- but now I just read this thread and I'm scared! When will the DOMS hit, and how bad will it be?! :D So far I just have a nice warm feeling in my butt and thighs, hmmm, I'll enjoy it while it lasts! :)

I love hearing about these premix mash-ups... I'm taking notes! Thanks ladies! :D

Slide & Glide... fun, fun, fun!

I just did Slide & Glide for the first time today (I got sick soon after receiving LIS and had to take over a week off, boo!) and it was SO much fun! I'm loving the low impact, and sliding is just a good time. Can't wait to do the rest of this series, I've only done three of the workouts so far...

    Afterburn: Two Thumbs Up!

There are premixes that do just half the intervals, if you like the look of this workout but are working on your endurance. The shorter premixes (all around 30 min.) let you do intervals #1-5, or #6-10, or all 10 but just once each (the full-length repeats each interval).
