Training Hilary Swank to be a boxer

She might have put on 20 pounds but it's physically impossible that it was all muscle - water, glycogen, fat and some muscle, sure. 100% muscle, no way. Here's a link to an article on Bodybuilding.com: http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/maki2.htm

What is the most spontaneous thing you've ever done??

I can't post the, er, X-rated stuff...let's just say it involved doing The Deed in a public place with someone I should not have been with...;-) On a less lascivious note, I once dressed down my brand-new boss when he tried to double-cross me on the terms of a raise I'd received. He had...

the life expectancy of a shoe

I go with the six-month rule for workout shoes or no more than 500 miles for running shoes. Someone posted a great idea which I've adopted: I write the purchase date of the shoe somewhere on the sole (for me it's in one of the cool side grooves on my New Balance crosstrainers). That way...

    Who's in the storm track?

I'm in NYC - right now the forecasters are saying we'll have snow starting midday Saturday and continuing through Sunday, total accumulations anywhere from 4" to 18". Way to FORECAST, idiots!;) Four inches ain't nothin' - eighteen would be a mess. Allison

    navel piercing

I had a fast recovery. I pierced mine on a Wednesday. On Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights I slept on my back because the weight of the barbell pulling on my skin hurt if I went to my side. However, I did abs work on Thursday and Friday. By Saturday I could sleep on my side or stomach...

What do you drink when you're working out?

Water, sometimes with a little bit of lemon juice, or very diluted Crystal Light. And for some reason, room-temperature beverages are easier for me to drink when working out than ice-cold ones.

I am just curious (pub and plb)

PLB is a great workout too, despite having to change the barbell weight a lot. I think it's just that PUB is exceptional - Cathe has other good lower-body workouts like S&H legs, Pure Strength legs, and Leaner Legs. But the only other complete upper-body workout is CTX Upper Body Split...

    Are you an ODD!! couple?

I'm 5'7-1/2", DH is 5'10". We're the same height or I'm slightly taller in platforms or high heels. He's a little insecure about it and will say something like "wow, you're tall today" when I have on heels, but I just ignore it.;-)

Are u a Waxer or Shaver

Nancy - Glad I was able to help! Bunbun - Ramy definitely does not go pencil thin. If you have thick brows (lucky you), he'll give them great shape and definition but won't pluck them to extinction. I have thin brows naturally and I've always had to plump them out with pencil or brow...

Are u a Waxer or Shaver

Nancy, You're in NYC, right? I go to Ramy for my eyebrows (am due for an appointment soon, actually) - his salon is Ramy Spa at 39 East 31st between Park and Madison - is that near your office? The phone is 212-684-9500. He charges a ton but it is worth it. Ramy pops up on QVC now and...

    HELP!!! Which DVD's have Premixes?

Premixes started with the Intensity Series DVDs. Premixes take clips from the original workouts and reorganize them to make a shorter or more focused workout. If you're a Firm fan, premixes are like the Firm Parts tapes. For example, on the Pyramids DVD, in addition to the Pyramid Upper...

CTX Upper Body Split Oh My!!

That is my killer upper body workout - much harder for me than either Pyramid Upper or Pure Strength. Maybe it's the combination of exercises, and the fact that you work each muscle group to absolute quivering failure. I'm always sore after this one.

why are nuts so freakin' expensive??

RE: Maybe this is a lttle nuts... I'm another one who likes grocery shopping, and I hate doing it with my husband along - the original Mr. "Can We Have Some of THIS?" as he darts around the store, picking up random things that neither of us will ever eat -- dried shrimp, Cajun-spiced olives...

If you burn yourself in the kitchen, splash vinegar on the affected area. Takes the pain away and you can reapply it as needed.

why are nuts so freakin' expensive??

We DO shop around for reasonable prices, but doesn't everyone, regardless of how they eat? Don't a lot of people go to Costco or Wal-Mart for groceries instead of their local chain supermarket because of the value? I do the same thing but I'm trying to shop healthy (though I'll admit those...

why are nuts so freakin' expensive??

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I don't find healthy eating to be expensive. Some items are - especially if you buy organic - but I'm always amazed that buying low on the food chain (fruit, veggies, rice, oatmeal, eggs) is so cheap and prepared food (Lean Cuisines, soda, cookies) is so...

    latest fitprime scam?

RE: Not a scam... I guess Anna figures it's not a scam if she discloses it. I'm waiting to see how clear she is in her disclosure - someone asked on the old FP forum about the remakes, were they "new" workouts or not, and Anna posted a long reply starting with "What IS 'New'?" - saying that if...
