    Shoulder Weightlifting Substitutions

I Try to Never Forget..... I totally agree with the recommendation here: Also, one thing I try to never forget when I am lifting & "isolating" muscles is that no muscle works in isolation. Always be sure that you pay attention to assistive muscles when training & that they too are strong...

I Tried It, I Liked It!

From: http://cathe.com/forum/f97/fitness-goals-2014-a-295515/ I visited an open house at a fairly new fitness facility near my house to try the 15 minute Pound class they offered. Using 1/4 pound weighted & specially modified plastic "drumsticks" (Ripstix), Pound combines easy to follow cardio...

Anyone out there do Sandbag training or use equalizer bars?

Cool Website Those equalizer bars look cool, & I would try those sandbags. I like anything that uses your muscles a little differently.

    Need Fitness room TV recommendations

I do this by connecting my iPhone to any TV. It's great when I travel and I can play Cathe's digital downloads too!

    Starting Again

Getting back into the habit 2013 was a stressful year for me too, and the workouts (taking care of self) always seem to go on the back burner. This summer I took my workouts outside biking, blading, walking, & swimming on my days off. As the days got shorter and colder I knew I wanted to get...

    Exertion and Calorie burn?

Fats Burn in a Carbohydrate Flame I love this evidence based blog entry: Cathe Friedrich - Hormonal Response to High-Intensity Training: Why It Burns More Fat, and it supports an old favorite mantra of mine. I have always "enjoyed" the feelings I get when doing higher intensity workouts...

    Exertion and Calorie burn?

Question I tend to go with my perceived exertion, and if it "feels" easier, I'm probably "cheating it " somehow. Are you going by the calorie counts in the workout manager (which tend to be fairly accurate) or are you wearing a heart rate monitor (accurate to your true workout level)?

    fitness goals for 2014

"If It Doesn't Challenge You, It won't Change You Cathe is always saying, "do something different", "make small changes to your routine", & "challenge your muscles in new ways to keep them guessing". In 2014 I want to maintain my incredible fitness level (which Cathe of course helped &...

    Shoulder injury..what should i do?

This Happened to Me Several years ago I developed pain in my left shoulder after trying to do push-ups. Everytime I lifted my left arm laterally or above my head I had sharp pain in the top of my shoulder, and eventually it affected my ability to work my biceps. Since I was in my forties, I...

    Party Rockin' Step 2

I thought I was in good shape... Did premix #1 of this DVD today and I really liked it. I thought it might be a little too "dancey" for me, but with Cathe's impeccable cuing I was able to "get it" without a rewind and just a couple of humbling fumbles. I don't know why, but HR seemed off the...

    X10 is a perfect 10!!!

Thinking of trying this today I know X10 will be one of my favorites & I'm planning on trying the Step premix (26:12) today. After doing Party Rocking Step #2 (premix #3) yesterday my quads feel heavy & my calves are tight, so we'll see........

Maximum Heart Rate - HR Training

How accurate do you think your HRM is? Remember, those formulas are just "theoretical" maximal HR calculations. According to the "theory" my max HR would be 170 BPM (220-age), and my training HR should be 127-144 (75%-85% of Max HR) and "fat burning" zone would be 85-102 BPM (50%-60% of Max HR)...

    Loving Flex Train

Last night I preveiwed what I know will be my favorites (Greatest Hits, Rocking Party Step 1 & 2, X10, & Flex Train). Since it's a gorgeous day and I'm in a hurry to get outside for a bike ride, I decided to do Flex Train, Timesaver #3 pre-mix (39 minutes). Basically this was a cardio workout...

    287 lbs starting weight

Cathe's cueing is perfection! The workouts are a little longer in the beginning as you may be hitting he rewind button repeating newer steps over & over until you get the knack. Thats part of the fun! I loved Basic Step & Body Fusion, and it has quite a bit of variety. Check out the...

    Always Dreamed of Doing This

On 2-17, Cathe posted on the "Intro & Getting to Know Each Other Thread" of 2012 NJ Roadtrip Forum: "Other Interests or Activities or Workouts I love to go into NYC for a day and take fun classes at popular studios. I love experiencing other forms of fitness too (Ie: karate, dance, gymnastics)...
