Lurker Invitation September 2009

Hi everyone! I have been kind of in a lazy slump lately! Ended up taking yesterday off entirely, and had a great time at two different BBQ's although I ate and drank way to much! Sunday I was also feeling lazy and I had Imax2 on the calendar, I decided to do my elliptical instead as I didn't feel up to Imax2 and the elliptical has been gathering dust for months now! I popped in a movie and ended up doing an hour on it, I had forgotten how hard that actually is to do the elliptical. I have some programs on there that really keep you moving if you follow it.

Today was my pilates class, and then a short 3 mile hike with Maggie before getting the girls. Better than nothing but certainly not INSANITY!!

Shadowpup: wow that really does sound insane! It is pretty inspiring that you are doing so well with it. And those weights on your legs are AWESOME! YOU GO GIRL! Do you use a squat rack or a weighted vest to get those numbers so high?

Shoegal: I know exactly how you feel about settling into a routine even if the things you are doing are fun things. I am in the same boat. My girls evens said to me not to long ago, "You know mom, you don't have to say yes to everything you are invited to do!" Wise advise from little mouths indeed!

Michelle: Oh dear I am so sorry about your DH's mishap! Is he a good patient? I hope he recovers soon and gets the care he needs. That is to bad! Hang in there with him, is it his dominant hand that is hurt? Well make sure you take care of yourself as well. To bad you and Shadowpup are going to miss each other this time around, but maybe there will be another chance for you guys to get together.

Janey: did you enjoy your time off and your visit with Sid? How did the turkey turn out? Sounds yummy!! I still need to get better about my Clean Eating aspirations, did terrible this weekend, hopefully I will get this nailed down!

"All, I am posting midday to brag. Yes, indeed, I cannot help posting this brag, because it is so mind-blowing to me. I did STS Legs today, at 90 percent 1RM, and EVERY WORKOUT WAS ONE HUNDRED POUNDS OR MORE!!!! I did squats at 130, which is more than I weigh by a smidge; deadlifts were 122, lunges at 100. Can you believe it???? I've been kind of dreading this week, because those numbers just seem impossibly huge to me. I know some of us on the Lurker list and many of the cathe-ites are doing more, but to me, being able to handle that much weight is just phenomenal. Had to share with people who would understand :)"

Deborah, That is fantastic! Wish I could figure out exactly how much I'm lifting with my legs. I can't use too much weight to place over my head, so I use my Smith Machine. The thing is, is that the bar is heavy and I don't know how much it weighs. Cant' take it off to weigh it either. So I can only guess the weight amount for my squats. I'm so proud of you! You deserve to brag, that is amazing!

I hate to say that things are hectic - since all of my time is going toward trying to have a good time. It is ridiculous to say that I would like to spend some time just doing my normal routine - but I would actually like that. Here I got back yesterday from Dewey Beach. (a very very tiny little stretch of beach that we got to share with numerous college age kids) I don't like the fact that we were so close to the people around us on the beach that we regularly heard conversations that weren't our own. I like peace and quiet - no radios, no one talking - just the sound of the surf and the sun. I like ample space around our umbrella and the next group of people. People sat on top of you and thought nothing of it. It isn't like the Outer Banks. Generally, we had a very nice long weekend but somewhere about 3pm on Sunday I just wanted to get off the beach - it ceased to be enjoyable and I am a beach gal from way back! But now - to warn you I shall be preparing to depart on yet another vacation - this time to Keuka Lake with DH & some friends for a week. There really isn't time to settle into my routine!!

Janie - hosting Sid again - well, that is a good thing - he needs the healing powers of your home and company. I know it is hard but it is so good of you to be there for him.

I will be doing another step routine form my DVDs tonight - but first I'm going to check the rotation. I know I missed some things but I want to work toward actually completing this rotation anyway.
Shoegal, People can be down right rude. I hope you have a better time at Keuka Lake with DH & some friends. Thank you for a Sid encouragement. Poor guy, I can't even imagine what he is experiencing. At one point, he was crying and told me "I just want my life back". It's so sad.

The rotation sounds great. Go for it.

Well, trying to get back to normal. Did the cardio portion of Body Max. Never got back to do the upper body and abs. Lots going on and it's looking like Shadowpup and I might not be able to hook up tomorrow.

The weekend was going well until Sunday morning. Joe had just come back to the boat to let me know that he was going to take a woman up to the emergency clinic at noon when it opened. She had fallen on her boat the night before and thought she had some broken ribs. Okay--great-boom! Joe lost his footing and down he went in the cockpit. Landed on his left wrist, snap, and his left hip. Now, instead of being the good samaritan, Joe is the patient and I'm running him to the ER up at Prince Frederick. After a relatively short wait, he was seen. Yup, he has a broken wrist. They put a splint on him, told us to see an orthopedic doc, gave him a script for percocet and off we went. As we are leaving the hospital Joe mentions that his left hip is sore. But he was walking okay, so off we went.

We get back to Solomons, get his prescription filled, and then back to the boat. Ripken was happy to see that we were back--a bit concerned, but happy. Once we got in the cabin, we decided we better look at Joe's hip. It was not good. Very swollen and purplish/black. While a break is simple enough, not for Joe. His has COPD, atrial fibrillation, takes warfarin (blood thinners) and the list goes on. Because of the blood thinners, the bruise on his hip is really, really awful. Sleeping Sunday night was not great, was better last night being at home.

We were able to get an appointment with an orthopedic doc today who told us yes, Joe's wrist is broken and there are 2 options: surgery or reset and cast. Surgery is probably the better option for someone without all Joe's preexisting conditions, but....After we left that doctor, Joe decided he wants a second opinion, so he is seeing another doc tomorrow. He also called his cardiologist and spoke to his nurse. I expect that Joe will hear back from him tomorrow or the next day. I've got the perpetual worry face going. Just can't get my brow to relax. One thing is for sure: this is going to be a very slow process. Whatever happened to the good old days where the doc set the bone, put a cast on the wrist, and off you went to heal. Doesn't seem to go like that anymore. On top of it all, I'm just not going to be able to hook up with Shadowpup tomorrow.:( But we'll keep trying.

On a brighter note, sister turned 44 today. I sent her a Cathe gift certificate. Just couldn't make up my mind what to get her so I decided to let her do that. Mom and Dad gave her some money to buy some Cathe stuff too. Wonder what she will get? Slanted risers? STS ab circuits, The terminator, a Cathlete shirt?~michelle
Michelle, Oh no, I was hoping you guys could connect. Darn.:( (((((Hugs to you and your Joe.))))) Which wrist did he break, Left or right and is he right handed or left handed? Hope all goes well with his healing. Let us know what your sister purchases from Cathe. I bet it will be risers?

Laura, Sounds like you and I had too much fun this last weekend. But as someone said, you got to let go sometime and just have a good time. Something like that. Boy I did! Sounds like you did a great job on the elliptical. Good for you, I only did a yoga the next day. But at least it was something. LOL;) I bet your 3 mile hike was beautiful.

Sid is still with us for a few more days or so. We are talking about going to the ocean again this Thursday. Seems like we should have great weather then. Hope so anyway, we'll see. The Turkey turned out wonderful. First I took all the skin off the bird, then wraped up in parchment paper to keep it from drying out. I cut it all up and froze it for sandwiches later during the next couple of weeks or so.

I found a flea on my little dog and got advantage for her and our two cats. I have to tell you, that stuff is making my heart palpitate and making Molly have diarrhea. Think I'll make some chamomile tea and try to relax. I put her in my bedroom hoping she will stay there for the night, while I stay on the couch to sleep. That's awful stuff! What else can you do for fleas? She might have gotten them from the beach the other day, I just don't know. I'll check on Molly during the night to see if she is OK.

You know what? If this is causing me symptoms, and a little dog that is 12 pounds with diarrhea, she might just get very sick. So I washed it off her. Hope we both sleep better tonight. Tomorrow, I'm complaining to the vet.

This morning I did the double upper body premix from BodyMax 2 since I only got through the cardio yesterday.

Shadowpup and I were not able to meet today but we will keep trying. 100+ pounds on legs is pretty dang impressive. Way to go, Shadowpup.

Janie: I'd lay bets your pups got fleas at the beach. Beaches are notorious for fleas. And don't you just hate it when the cure is as bad, or worse, than the initial problem?

Laura: lazy sounds good, but you are always so active. How could you not be with twin 8 year olds?

Okay, here is the update on Joe.
Yesterday we went to see the first orthopedic doc. He was horrible. No bedside manner, no information, no options other than surgery. Okay, that's not really the best option for Joe because he is on blood thinners. Joe and I had a hard time believing that surgery was the only option, although we are sure it did help maximize the doc's earnings. After a lot of discussion, Joe got in touch with his cardiologist's nurse late yesterday and talked to her because we want to keep Dr. Vranian in the loop on this. Joe also made another appointment for today with a different doctor. Last night Joe summed this first doc up: disinterested. Yeah, that's exactly the kind of doctor anybody wants.

Day 2: another appointment with another orthopedic doc at a different practice. This guy is a little younger, much more friendly and caring in attitude. Provided lots of information and 3 options for which he gave the pros and cons based on Joe's other health issues. Okay, now we are getting somewhere. Of course, the first option was invasive surgery which this doc recognized as not good for Joe. Second option, less invasive surgery: might be doable but felt the 3rd option was a better route for Joe. 3rd option: set the bone as best possible (its kind of crushed), x-ray to be sure it's lined up, put on a cast, x-ray, come back in a week for another x-ray to see how things are going. So, Joe went with option 3. Now, option 3 required some manipulation of the wrist bone and it came with a pretty good scream of pain and levitation. I'm surprised there was anyone left in the waiting room after that.

The doctor was very good natured and Joe liked him, so I think we have the beginning of a road to recovery. We are finally feeling like Joe finally got some real health care. My worry face feels like it might actually start to relax and I can concentrate fully on other things.

The bad news is that I will be doing alot of the cooking for a while. This is going to be interesting.

Michelle, Good job on BM2. Molly and I are feeling very well today, and last night we slept like babies. Never will I put that kind of flea control on her again. The Kitties did just fine. Hmmmmm.

So glad you and Joe found the best method (for you guys) fto mend his broken wrist. Please keep us posted on his healing progress. I can just see your worry face as you were telling the story in the last couple days.

Ok now, get some rest and put that worry looking face to rest too. Joe will be just fine. I thought you cooked.

Will be getting up at 5am tomorrow for the ocean. Won't be back until dark, most likely won't be posting until Friday.

Sleep tight and don't let the bed bugs bite.

Didn't get around to posting yesterday - have been busy - preparing to have a good time  - took the boat out of the water on Tuesday evening - that took a long long time - actually - getting the boat on the trailer - not long at all - but taking the mast down - long time. I started to get perturbed cause this was cutting into my normal routine but got back in time to do Step Max. It was a good workout as you all know - it surprises me because I'm thinking it is going to be totally devoid of choreography - but it had more than I expected - but still a little less than I would like.

Last night I did S&H L&S - good workout - liked it alot.

Michelle - sorry to hear about Joe's wrist - but glad that you found the treatment that would best suit him. Too bad it happened at all!!! I am glad he is on the mend and keep us informed of his progress. Yes - I was sort of under the impression you cooked too!!! I don't really cook either but I can get by. It isn't my thing and I find it tiresome.

Laura - Sometimes we all get in a slump but sounds as if you are working through it. Good job on the elliptical - I have a treadmill - and sometimes I would put in a movie to work out to - I always found that fun. It has been awhile since I've done that.

Janie - glad you worked out your flea problems - hope you have a great time at the ocean. Isn't there some sort of flea medication that's a pill and it is taken internaly?? I'm not sure what it is called - maybe this would be a better option. Oh - I have to tell you what a lady at the marina call Dot & Scout - the pointer sisters!! I thought that was super cute.

Thought I would check in early - not sure what is on the calendar today - better go see. So far though - I have modified the rotation to suit myself. but I had to finish S&H first.

Well have been busy settling into the new school routine, it takes so much energy, it really amazing...The girls forgot their violins today, I called the school to see if they had some they could borrow for the day, but they didn't have any small enough so had to run to Boulder (50 minutes each way) to deliver them UGH!:( Also had to go down twice yesterday, once to pick the girls up rush them home, dash off to teach my new 5 pm Pilates class in mid-Gilpin, dash back to Boulder for a Parent-Teacher night....didn't get home until 10:30!

Anyway after my mad dash up and down the canyon, I got to Nederland just in time to teach my Pilates class, than run home to grab the pup and took a 2:30 hour hike with a friend, whose heart rate monitor said we burned 750 calories! Now I am about to dash back out the door to go teach my Ski Conditioning class! Yikes! Now I said I have been in a slump but really when I look at what I just typed I have to say you guys are right I am active!LOL! I just haven't been able to do the Cathe DVD's as much..

Michelle: so glad you guys made the effort to get a 2nd opinion, sometimes I think we give away all our power to the Dr. and forget that we are able to 'fire' them by not choosing them! So I hope it goes well for him, wow he really must have whacked it hard! Let that worry face relax and enjoy cooking some healthy meals for you guys! My husband and I both cook, which is really nice, it isn't such a chore then..

Shoegal: so do you recommend the slow and heavy series?

OPPS OUT OF TIME!! HOPE TO FINISH PERSONALS LATER

Okay--to dispell all myths: Joe is the cook. He loves cooking and trying new recipes. And he is really very good. I am the salad maker. During the winter months, I make breakfast on the weekends. I'm also pretty good with sandwiches and things like spaghetti, lasagna, meatloaf, and thanksgiving dinner. Otherwise, I just don't have Joe's adverturous spirit when it comes to cooking.

This morning I did Step, Jump, and Pump. First time with SJP and I didn't get to preview it first, so I was just listening very intently and going with the flow. The Step part is fun and not that difficult. The jump part I kept low impact because MIC reminded me last month why I don't do hi-impact aerobics anymore. The pump portions are where the sweat just pours off me. I guess that's the way circuit workouts are supposed to work.

Shoegal: nothing fast about taking down masts. You all will probably get more efficient over time and find a system that works for you, but it will still be slow. Sounds like you are having fun with your new Cathe workouts. Pretty good football game last night, don't you think--glad the Steelers won.

Laura: wow, that's some commute for your girls to go to school. Is it 50 minutes with no traffic or 50 minutes with traffic. Either way, that's alot of driving. I don't know how Shoegal feels about the S&H series, but I really like it. It is definitely a must have dvd.

Janie: hope you have fun at the beach. We are getting rain here today and it is cool. Warmer weather is supposed to return to the mid-Atlantic tomorrow.

And finally the Joe update: since having his arm set, it has been hurting more. But, the doctor did some serious manipulation of his wrist when he set is, so I guess it is to be expected. He is also trying to go for longer periods of time between taking the pain medicine. The doc switched him from percocet to vicadin which doesn't seem to have the same amount of side effects, but Joe still isn't crazy about taking yet one more pill. The bruise on his hip seems to be traveling down his leg. I'm not sure what this all means. If it is just natural or if something else is going on. I'm thinking that he needs to call his cardiologist and talk to the nurse again. I ask him if anything hurts or if there is any pain or numbness and he says no. But, it still seems strange. He thinks that I am just worrying too much.

Well I just did the P90X Legs & back for the first time and that is one good workout, I am getting used to Tony's style and I guess it doesn't bother me as much as at first. I also did Ab ripper X, which I don't really like but it does get the job done. ...

Need to hop in the shower and head down to Boulder for a private Pilates Client and then pick up the girls.

Michelle: yes it is a LOOOONNNNNGGGG commute! That is without traffic, really it is 45 minutes give and take a few minutes...I am still hoping for STS and then maybe after that Insanity and then I think I will see about Slow & heavy and Pure Strength.... Well I think your Dh is lucky to have you worrying about him! I hope he starts to heal up. I don't know for sure about his hip with his heart condition but I do think bruises in general due tend to change shape and color as they heal. I like STP as well, but the jumping portion is definitely very high impact!:p

Janie: have fun at the beach!

Shout out to everyone else got to run now....

Shoegal, Taking the boat out of the water. Does that mean no more boating this year? You seem to be doing great on your exercises. I'll ask the vet next time about a pill for fleas.

Laura, Busy busy time I see. That's a lot of traveling/riding in the car. I don't envy you. I bet your walks are beautiful! Great calorie burn you active person you.

Michelle, I think that's great that Joe can cook. I sometimes wish my Joey could do that as well. He is just about like you when it comes to cooking. I'm like your Joe, and love to cook, and want everyone out as I do it. LOL:D SJ&P is a great workout. Glad to hear you enjoyed it. I think I'm going to have to be more careful with high impact too. We are finely getting our Summer. It's been in the 80's the last couple of days, and will continue through the weekend. If you are worried about the burise on Joe, then please see the doctor. It could be something. You never know. Better seeing one just in case.

Laura, Like you said, you do get use to Tony after a while. LOL;) It's a great series for sure. Enjoy the rest of the day. Oh, we enjoyed the beach very much.

Sid isn't doing well today, and since we have no air conditioner and some dog barks at night, he will be going home today. We just might be able to convince Sid and Tine to have Chasie for awhile.

Haven't been able to exercise Like I'd like and will do some shopping today. Tomorrow will do an intense workout.

Janie

Hi all,

Flew back in last night - it was an uneventful planeflight, maybe noteworthy because I'll hit Gold MVP status for the year as soon as the miles accrue ... that plus a little luck will get me a better seat for upcoming travel, which is kind of nice.

Michelle, it was a shame we couldn't get together but there will be other opportunities! Your stops are right in the middle of my usual circuit. You had quite a bit on your mind this week! My DH also is the cook. He loves it and he's really good at it, too! We are both lucky. Sounds like Circuit City is turning out to be a really good rotation! Are you going to post it on the rotations page afterwards ... ? Thanks for keeping us posted on Joe - I've been catching up on that - you know, my opinion is that professionals such as nurses and the cardiologist are there not just to tell us when we're right (that a symptom, like a broadening bruise is a bad sign) as when we don't need to worry. Perhaps you can put it to Joe that you want to call just to relieve your own mind. It's not like you're calling ten times a day. Just one extra call to say, hey, do we need to do anything special to avoid clots while the bruise is healing and by the way it is spreading pretty fast, will relieve you and your worry face and not cost them more than five minutes of their time. Joe could give them feedback that the pill change is okay at the same time, and he could ask how much longer he has to keep taking meds (really for him there, I *hate hate hate* pills). That will relieve his mind as well. Also, the medical community needs feedback from the patient to do their job the best way they can. They work for you - it is only fair to give them the best possible opportunity to do their job right. Just my opinion ;)

Janie

Janie, you are so good to take care of Sid. It has to be such a rollercoaster for all of you. When he is unhappy and difficult, it is not the real Sid talking. Of course, that doesn't make it any more pleasant for anyone, does it :(:(:(Hopefully you are seeing tiny signs that he is gradually getting his life back and you will be seeing the true Sid more and more often. I hope you and Joey are able to have Chasie for awhile longer - it's so good for him to spend time like this with his grandparents! And fun for you, too.

And fleas! I am torn on that, just like you. I hate putting toxic things on the dogs with topicals, or in them with pills. Yet, we've got all these ticks in the woods and it is the lesser of two evils. Fortunately our dogs, being bigger, don't react as much to the topicals. And they spend so much time outdoors that the house does not get a buildup of toxins. BTW: long ago I worked in a vet clinic, and we recommended three things after dogs picked up fleas. One, to put a small amount of flea powder in the vacuum cleaner, the kind that is geared towards flea eggs not adult fleas. The flea lifecycle is somewhere around 7-10 days if memory serves, and putting flea powder in the vacuum cleaner will kill any eggs you pick up. That keeps them from hatching out again and restarting the cycle. Two, we suggested putting powder or spraying (again aimed at larva or eggs) on bedding or anywhere the dog or cats slept. Same reason - the most likely spots to shed fleas, which lay eggs, is where they sleep, and it helps avoid a recurrence. Don't know if your vet suggested this but we found that it really helped avoid a recurrence to think of the flea problem as a 'two generation' problem. Some of the cleanest homes ended up with fleas - they can come anywhere. Third thing, it is not a bad idea to ask your vet to do a tapeworm check at some future date. Fleas are part of the tapeworm lifecycle. Easy to detect in the fecal sample. There I go, interfering again :eek::eek:

Laura, I see you are as busy as usual! Always on the go ... I agree with you and Janie: Tony is more enjoyable once you get used to his style :) I haven't used the whole program, but enjoy the KenpoX, PlyoX, CardioX. And, a little YogaX. I'll be really curious how you liked that one, and whether the style is good. Me, I know so little about yoga it seems safest to stick with the Rodney dvd you recommended! Please keep reporting on the dvds; it's good to know Legs and Back is a useful one. Haven't done any of his strength training.

I bet you'll find Insanity and STS both for a good price, used, when you're ready. I saw it for $250 rather than $300, not counting the abs, over on Amazon. It comes with the box and nutrition guidelines. It would not surprise me to see the series used for $200 by Christmas.

Well, I missed BC earlier this Monday, so I did it this morning. I was seriously thinking about not exercising today and then Joe asked me when I was going to exercise. So, that kind of cinched the deal. I've been avoiding BC because it just seemed so intimidating but as Cathe says: you can do anything for one minute. Just don't stop going during that minute and you will be okay. Half-way through the mountain climbers Cathe gives you a little break. Ha. I should have kept going because I lost my momentum. Next time, no little bouncing break on those for me. Some really good core work in BC too. A definite winner workout and it really goes by fast.

Shadowpup: we will keep trying. This week was messed up but things are getting better. The bruising is starting to lighten some so things are better there. Joe has an appointment with a hematologist this Tuesday (was already scheduled) so he can take a good look at the bruising. And then back to the othopod on Wednesday. So, I'm kind of settling down a bit on my worrying.

Laura: I have a colleague at work who has borrowed P90X from another coworker. She hasn't given it a go yet. She just started exercising in June and feels it is just too advanced for her. I keep telling her that she just has to modify as appropriate. I'm intrigued by P90X but I've got STS to prepare for in the new year. It's useful to hear your thoughts on the series as you give it a try.

Little cool here in the mid-Atlantic today. Cloudy and breezy. I'm thinking pants for the next dog walk which will be right after I sign out.

Debroah, The saddest thing about Sid is that the toxins are out of his body, but his body is going through withdrawals. It's really horrible for him. He has tingling sensations, can't relax, up and down, and just don't know what to do. Crying all the time, can't watch movies because most are too intense for him...Oh my, poor Tina, and what she is going through. Looks like it could be 5 to 7 more months of this. I truly hope he can survive this. Thank you for your support.

Thank you for all the neat information/ideas on fleas and how to get rid of their eggs. I've heard it before, but it's really nice to go through it again. I'll clean everything and put bleach in the blankets the animals use. That should get them. I will put flea powder in the vaccum and everywhere else I can think of. What a great idea. Oh by the way, you are not interfering. I like these ideas, and some I didn't know about. Again thank you.

Have a great rest of the weekend everyone.

Janie

Janie, I'm sure that as he emerges from the withdrawals, the loving support that you, Joey, Tina and all are offering him will be the key element. My closest personal parallel will be the aftermath of chemotherapy drugs. It was probably a year after ceasing them that the effects were gone, and longer than that to rebuild physical strength. It just plain takes a long time for our bodies and minds to get back to the point where they can rebuild.:(:( And sooo hard on all of you caretakers in the meantime.

Michelle, yes indeed! I'm sure I'll be back east in the next few months. Oddly, nothing scheduled yet ... but it will come. I'm really glad that your worry-radar is relaxing. Worry-radars keep us out of trouble! Continued best wishes to you both. And I hope you are enjoying finding things to cook! And good for you to work out. It's nice when someone else can trigger doing a workout, instead of diverting form one, isn't it!

Our weather here is "Indian Summer" now - going between cool to hot. We're at "hot" right now, hitting low nineties. Last week was cool - forties at night.

All, the bulbs are coming, the bulbs are coming!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: My first outside shipment came, 400 daffodils. Half are in the ground now - hope to finish the rest today. This is the teeniest, tiniest tip of the iceberg :eek::eek: I put a few pictures from this past spring, mostly bulbs and a few early spring flowers, in my Cathe photo album, if you are curious.

Deborah, I never once thought that you had to go through the aftermath of Chemo drugs. Didn't realize there was such a thing. Amazing what the human body/mind can go through. I'm thinking then, that Sid is correct in judging when his body/mind will be back to where it was. About 5-6 more months to go. Hopefully sooner, but at least there is something to look forward to and there is a light at the long dark tunnel. Thank you for the information, I needed that.

Oh, those pictures are beautiful! Can't wait for more of those pictures to see.:)

Did the Wedding Video today, but only had time for about 30 min. Had to get ready for Chasie to come home with Joe. When he took Sid home, he spent the night.

We already went into the hot tub. The sun decided to shine on it, so until the sun is behind the trees, then we'll go back in, cause we don't want any sunburn. LOL! Now I'm talking to you guys like I would Chasie. Oh boy. (shaking head back and forth);)

Take care,

Janie

Hi Everyone! Well I actually took two full days off of exercise! It wasn't the intention really, but just to busy with social engagements I just couldn't fit them in. I actually think it was a good thing to do though. my Glutes were so sore from the Leg and Back routine from P90X! I actually haven't been that sore in that area for a sometime now! I guess there is really something to that muscle confusion concept, huh? Even though Tony doesn't really use weights in that series, a few exceptions, most of the exercises were ones I have never done or haven't done in a long time. I might be verging in enabling some DVD purchases, because clearly it is a good idea to switch it up a little!!:)

I went to a really fun Martini Party last night a friends house, she lives a little over an hour away, so I spent the night. It was fun for me to be out and to have a morning with friends. Did some shopping and got home just in time to unload the car and get a Cowboy Chili simmering for dinner. I just caught up on personals..

Shadowpup: your bulbs are beautiful! I have some small garden beds as well but so far no bulbs. I am afraid of unleashing a new passion/obsession!:confused:Plus at nearly 10,000 feet I am on the border line of being able to grow them. I am still waiting for the full program, need to check on that tomorrow, it is amazing how hard it is for people to be able to get packages to us! But the weight work is good, different but good. Lots of pushups and variations on chin ups. Challenging for me....

Michelle: I just did Bootcamp for the first time the other day, I still haven't tried the Drill Max yet. I like that style of workout, how is the high impact for you? I also lost my momentum on the drop pushup drill. Oh well, always room for improvement, huh?

Janie; that is really intense what your whole family is going through with Sid. I agree with Shadowpup that the loving support you are providing is the best thing you can do for him and will probably help him heal. It is so good that you can be there for you Grandson and your daughter as well. You and I will get back on track tomorrow with our workouts!

Hi Shoegal. Ironlady and everyone lurking...

I forgot whose co-worker purchased P90X but if she is just returning to exercise, I would not recommend this series at all. There is a fitness test that you do before you start, and if you don't meet the recommended minimums on that test, Tony says you are not ready for P90X and to start with 90X first. I think that you should recommend Cathe to her though and start there. I think that P90X could be very intimidating for someone who is just getting back into exercise. It is true she could modify ALOT and do as many reps as she could do, but I think that could lead someone to feeling bad about themselves, and let's face it. if something makes you feel bad about yourself you are not likely to continue doing it...

Where is everyone?? Working out? Eating Clean? LOL! I know when I don't post I am either supper busy or haven't worked out and don't want to fess up!!
But I know everyone is super duper committed here on this check-in so I am guessing everyone is busy...or out of town.

Anyway that new Studio I started at this summer really wanted me to add another class, so I started a new pilates class there today! It went well, small but good. Then I had a private client at home, a friend, who showed up half an hour late! So had to talk to her about that, hate that with friends...she was at lunch so it wasn't like it was something urgent! The Rec. Center where I work is closed this week for annual cleaning and maintenance so I don't teach there all week. Nice to have the night off..

I am really interested in this muscle confusion idea and so I did a Body Bar workout I haven't done in a VERY long time and only done two times before. It is called All Systems Go and it is one tough circuit workout, I was thinking Body Bar workouts where easier, but not this one! Yikes! Very high impact though with lots of plyo and jumping, quick lunges and squats. My left knee gave me some trouble, don't like that at all! Don't want knee problems EVER!

Hope all is well! Going to take the girls to Boulder tomorrow so will hike down there and then going out with some girlfriends to celebrate a Birthday for sushi!
