do you workout for more than 1hr

how many of you ladies workout for over an hour a day? and if so, what are you doing for that time period (weights, cardio, both)? also, did you find you got better results working out for more than an hour or do you like doing longer workouts?

I typically work out for 45-60 minutes, 70+ min on Saturdays only. I do weights one day, cardio the next, or cardio+weights, cardio the next. I try to keep my weights to every other day, but I'm thinking that I might need an extra day's rest. I'd be curious to see what others do and what kind of results they've gotten.

Currently I'm trying to lose another 2-3 lbs and then start heavy weights again in earnest. So because I'm trying to lose, I've bumped up the cardio and decreased the calories going in. Combined, it works well... but it is hard to build muscle when you aren't feeding it!

Heavens, yes. None of my workouts (save an anticipated lunchtime walk over to my gym once each week to do some light maintenance weights that I hope to put on my schedule this week) is less than 90 minutes. My Mon. and Wed. late afternooners are 90 minutes; my Saturday / Sunday morningers are usually 180 minutes each.

Always cardio for about an hour; always core work for at least 15 minutes; sometimes squat-rack legs during my land workouts; Sundays I do cardio, and total body strengthening (legs, core and upper body).

I personally like doing fewer workouts per week with more extended times, so that I don't feel like I have to shut things off just when I've got my freak on.

I was 90 to 120 minutes a day from age 13 to 29 - until I had kids...lost all the weight, just doing The Firm (old ones) for an hour a day....then down to 30 minutes circuits in my 30's and kept my weight down...now its 30-60 minutes 4x a week.
BECAUSE - all those years of consistency have worn out my joints and cartilage and after 30 years of no injuries, they are coming fast and furiously! But the heart and bones are great!

I increased my workouts to about 60 minutes a day 6x's a week.
For the longest time I spent 3 hours a week working out. That changed when I switched to Precision Nutrition. John Berardi recommends getting at least 5 hours a week if your goal is: changing your body composition. I am slowly adding muscle and trying not to focus on the number on the scale. That in itself is a difficult habit to break!

My workouts average 60 min, 5-6x per week. Occasionally I will do a longer workout if the DVD happens to be a bit longer (like Kick Max the other day.) But I think my form suffers past 60 minutes, making me more prone to injury because I'm tired.

Icumom, I'm right there with you (well, I've been blessed with no injuries, but right there with you as far as the time factor.) Since I have a toddler, hour workouts only happen on the weekends, but I find 30-40 minutes provide effective workouts for me (5 to 6 times a week.) I'm in even better shape now than when I was in my 20's doing 2 hour workouts. So luckily, this is working for me.

Yes, I tend to work out for more than 60 min/day when I'm working out. The rest of the day I probably do what others might think of as a workout when I'm with a client and I opt to run with them to keep them going. It's that kind of a thing.

But, when I'm home and I'm focused on working out, I'll do a Cathe workout and something else too on a good day. Like adding on an ab or stretch routine. Or, I run. Preparing for a half marathon coming up-- I anticipate running for about 2 hours for that one.

OMG,

180 minutes. I would die!!! :eek::eek::eek:
I am able to comfortably do 50-60 minutes when kids allow. Usually I get 40-45 min 4 times a week.
You guys aren't talking steady state are you?? You mean either cardio and weights or interval right?? (Please say yes)
I am nowhere near that level, even though I have been doing Cathe for 5 years. But 2 babies in there set me back.
Really 60 min a day for 6 days??? I'm exhausted just reading that. :D:D:D

I like to do 30 min. cardio two days a week, sometimes in the mornings other times at night. One day during that time I interval it. One day a week I do a 50+ min. circuit training and 3 days a week I do how ever long it takes to do muscle building with different body parts. Two days a week I get a 30 min. to an hour of yoga in there, depending how I feel. Yoga is hard work too, and you do stretch your body doing it. I have 1 day of rest.

The next month it changes, I'll do full body workout twice a week. An endurance workout once a week, the rest of the days cardio and yoga and a day of rest.

The 3rd month it changes again. More cardio and lighter weights. Then back to working hard again. Confusing my body like this works for me.

I just don't get results unless I work hard. These days I'm still recovering from my surgery, but this is the exercise load I will continue with as soon as possible.

Hope I answered your question,

Janie

I walk my dog everyday for 45-60 minutes everyday (missed maybe 10 days this year) at a decent pace, but I don't consider that part of my workout time. I spend a minimum of 90 minutes doing cardio/weights/stretching after that and I try to get another hour of weights or cardio in the evening.
Now if I could just stop eating you might be able to tell I spend that much time working out!

I would say I average about 90 minutes a day 7 days a week. Maybe one of those days will be only 60 minutes if I skip my run.

I run 3 to 4 miles every day, which takes about 30 minutes, and then do a video workout of about an hour.

Usually I do about 50 - 60 minutes each morning, Mon - Fri. On Saturday, I like to workout for about 2 hours. Sunday is NOTHING!!

I like to keep it at an hour, but weight workouts take a little longer...and I have a couple workouts that go to 75 minutes.

It's very rare that I will do a 90 minute or longer...but it does happen.

I usually do some sort of cardio for about 40 min/day 5-6 days week. That is usually either kickboxing, running, step, or the Arc trainer at the gym. Then I lift 6 days a week 1 bodypart/day. I am usually at the gym for that, which, depending on much socializing I do that day could range from 30-90 minutes that day.

Probably though, my total workout time averages about 80-100 minutes/day if you take out the "chatting time" at the gym and only count the actual working out. :)

This schedule seems to work well for me, but I do find that I get burned out after a while. I'm learning to listen to my body more now then I used to. If I feel fatigued or oversore, I'm learning to take some rest days when I need it without any guilt.

Take care, Lynn

Lynn, I think that is key. Listening to your body and repecting it. Rest when you need it. I used to feel so guilty when I would take and extra rest day. Now I realize that missing 1 or 2 days is not gonna kill my results!!

Oh yes rest days are the best!!! On Thursday I started S&H triceps and did the 3 sets of the overhead extensions and I was just miserable. Miserable!! So I turned off the dvd, packed up my stuff, and haven't worked out since.

I figure if I'm miserable, why fight it? There may be a good reason. (Or, in the case of this week, 250 good reasons! Dear me I don't know what possessed me to think that 250 walking lunges were a good idea...:p)

Oh Ame, you knew those would come back to haunt you!!

The stupid thing is, I'm still curious if I could lunge a half mile.

Maybe I'll wait until after my half to try it out, though! LOL

My actual butt only hurt for a day, though. Somehow my energy level took a couple!
