Your thoughts on popcorn...PLEASE

I love popcorn, almost as much as MooseTracks. I love the Jolly Time Healthy Pop, and I am really trying to lose that last 10 lbs. Do you think having a bag is a healthy treat?? Do you think denying myself is a good thing from something that is considered a healthy treat?? I was going to try to limit it to once per week because it is highly glycemic, but I am already going thru withdrawl. I just would like a few opinions, please. Thanks everyone.

Hi, Lori, I think that as long as you keep your popcorn consumtion within your total caloric intake you are fine to eat a bag. It has lots of fiber and it's not a bad treat at all. Beware of kettle korn! Each cup has 140 calories! And it's addictive!

To me denying yourself is a form of punishment, and that too often is what we do when we try to lose weight. Have your popcorn, but have the lowest calorie kind you can find. I happen to like Orrville Redenbacher's Smart Pop.

You are really fretting a lot about your eating way of life. Just chill and be good to yourself, which means eat smart but don't think in terms of "denying."

Please go to the library and get the book "Dr. Shapiro's Picture Perfect Weight Loss." He gives lots of examples of smart choices in picture form. You'll love it.

Honeybunch- You are RIGHT, I have been fretting alot about my weight. I am only 10 lbs. over where I should be. I guess I have just been struggling with it for so long, I want it gone, NOW, and I know it just won't happen. I read things other people write, and it conflicts with what I think, and then I doubt myself. I know for myself, WW's works best. The high fiber, lowfat, really works well on my body. I just have to relax and let the weight come off. I weighed myself this morning, after one week on the program, and I did not drop any weight. At first I started to get bummed, but I also know my body is slow to respond sometimes, so next week will be better. Thanks for all your opinions.
Lori

And, yes, I am going to eat my popcorn!!! It is defininetly better than MooseTracks!!!

Yummy

Hi, I love Moosetracks too! As for popcorn, I also have it a few times a week- usually natural (although it's definately not healthier!) and butter. I bought a box of the snack size bags (not all stores carry them) and they're good. It's regular butter but a smaller size.

I wouldn't worry too much about your lite popcorn snack. Just balance it out - if you eat ok during the day, treat yourself. If you had a fast food lunch, or lots of cookies, skip it for the night. You could be doing a lot worse!

I'm generally a lurker but I promised myself that if anyone ever posted about popcorn again I would pass this on!

I don't know if anyone else has seen this but...

I found a WW microwave popcorn at the Grocery and it is SO good. The best part is that one bag = one serving (I don't follow WW but it count as 1 point). The WW bags are about half the size of regular bags and if you're anything like me, I eat the whole bag no matter how much I really want/need!

Now, it's no Butter Lovers Deluxe but it takes care of the craving. It's light and crunchy and leaves very few unpopped kernels...and no, I don't work for WW! My fave thing about popcorn is all the fiber...I think it is a great snack.

Take care, Mikie
