Your thoughts on cheese

I am a ethical Vegan so I do not do cheese. I find that once I cut dairy out of my diet my skin got a lot better. Although I have slipped up on being vegan here and there I have not had cheese in close to two years. Now it kind of seems gross to me. I do not think I could eat it if I tried. However that is my personal decision. While it is fatty so probably not good to eat a lot of if you do not see anything wrong with it it is probably okay in moderation. There are a lot worse foods out there.

Jaque - you know, I actually find that if I think about how it's made (curdled milk, basically), I get a little grossed out myself. So I just don't think about it. ;) That's interesting about your complexion though, and more food for thought. Thanks.

A piece of parmigiano Reggiano followed with a sip of a dry crisp pinot grigio is pure heaven!

I'll second that!

Or drizzled with balsamic vinegar! :9
Or shaved onto a bed of crisp romaine :9
Or grated over a steaming bowl of fresh popped popcorn :9
Or served as an accompaniment to fresh figs :9
Or throwing the rind into a pot of simmering minestrone :9

Cheese and chocolate, every day :)

I'm a lacto-ovo veggie, and can't live without either one. It wouldn't be fun living without them, anyway!

I LOVE CHEESE!!!

I used to buy the low fat or fat free kind but don't bother anymore. I usually only buy deli sliced american cheese for sandwiches anyway and only use 1 slice per sandwich so I'm not worried about it.

I love block cheese and could devour many kinds in one sitting but have long stopped buying it. It is only on the rarest of occasions anymore that you will find a block of cheese in my fridge as a "treat" and it will be the "real deal".

That's what I appreciate about you Wendy--you work very hard but you like some time every once in a while to savor the moment (or a piece of cheese..... :9 )

I need my treats, girl! That's what keeps me on the straight and narrow! Without them I'd go bonkers!:9 }( :9

I had many a treat over the holiday weekend including several chocolate martinis...Can anyone say YUM!?!? }( }( }(

I'm sure the last 10 vanity pounds would have vanished long ago, but for my love of cheese (and chocolate, but that's another thread)

Maggie:)

My thoughts on cheese.

It is delicious. It is full of protein and calcium. Yes, it has saturated fat, so a couple of ounces of it at a time is enough.

But, what I do not understand iss why people are so keen to eliminate anything from their diet that brings them pleassure. I do not share this mindset.

I love cheese. I don't eat it every day, usually about twice a week. But when I feel like eating some, I am not going to stint, I am not going to waste my taste bud on cheap, low quality, low fat cheese that is so not worth eating. I eat full fat, mature English cheddar, I love goat's cheese with all its tartness, love Brie and Cambozola. I could go on......

It is perfectly feasible to include cheese in a healthy diet. It is just as healthy as meat. Both contain animal fats. Neither should be every day foods, but 2 or 3 times per week? Yup, that's just fine.

If you are working out, eating a mixed diet based largely on whole grains, pulses and fruits and vegetables, then you can afford to have a little of what tastes good a few times a week.

Low fat cheese isn't cheese. It is an abomination. Forget it.
