you just never know

I was sitting here at the computer around 1:30 today. It was nice out so I had all the windows open. My neigbor's yard has a privacy fence that goes down the length of my yard and a little bit past it. They have a gate that opens into a small not so dense wooded area behind my house. I can kind of see through the overgrowth and few trees into the house behind me. As I was sitting here, I heard 2 LOUD noises that sounded like gun shots. I got up and went to the window and saw a girl (or women) running toward that gate. I thought maybe a snake or something had been shot by the neighbor. The girl came running back out screaming. My neighbor (a male) ran out and came back out saying "no no no..." I heard him yell for someone to call 911, which I did. His wife had shot herself. I couldn't believe it!!! My b/f is in charge of investigations at our police dept and he would've been the one to go over and investigate but he's out of town. I called him and he caled someone in. I STILL cannot believe it. I left a litle while ago to go run an errand and a couple of people were sitting in the grass in their front yard with their heads down. HOW SAD!! I feel so bad for them. I'm hearing she was on medications for depression. I just can't imagine and I even feel kind of bad for telling this because it it so awful. When I was on the phone with 911 I was shaky and told them I heard 2 gun shot wounds. That doesn't even make sense. Anyway, I just felt like I needed to share. Again, it puts things into perspective. I can still see her going to the mail box some days. :(

O my gosh!! That is so terrible - Poor husband.

I can imagine how you were feeling too, hearing the gun shots and then hearing the man yelling those words - that would be enough for me to jumble up my words.

How sad!!

That's terrible! I'm so sorry you had to experience this and feel awful for the family. I had to do CPR once on a guy who shot himself in his drive . I know what you mean about the shaking. It's something you'll never forget.

Oh my gosh, how horrible. I wish him and his family much comfort. :(

This might sound stupid, but do you know if she survived?

She didn't. My father, who was in law enforcement a long time, said that women who commit suicide with a gun usually fire a test shot first. That's why I heard 2 shots. 1 test....and 1 for real.

so sorry for your neighbor's husband and for you having to go through this. Suicide is so difficult for all involved...the wounds cut so deep and are hard to heal.
May he find comfort in those who love and support him, and may she rest in peace

What a devastating story!! I am so sorry to hear.........:(

I know some people (maybe most) might disagree with me, but I am very anti-medication....what a risk in taking ANYTHING that can alter your brain, or your thoughts, or your actions....no one knows the true effects of these pills that are for depression.... maybe it's just easy for me to say because I've never seen or been in that situation......

oh no

I'm so sorry. Thats just so sad. I think its ok for you to post here. All of us are a supportive little community and if you can't come here for a little understanding and sympathy or empathy where can you go?

How horrible. My fiancee's mom committed suicide earlier this year the same way. It was absolutely devastating to the family. The will have a long, tough road ahead, make sure you keep being a great neighbor. They need it now more than ever.
