yoga and cardio rotation

so today kicked off my yoga experiement. I'm giving up weights for a month and only doing yoga and cardio. I've been being plaqued with some shoulder tendonities and my hips have felt super tight and sore. Today i did 30 mintues of incline walking followed by 60 minutes of power yoga. During the yoga i couldn't believe how inflexible i have become! Its terrible. It was definately hard to hold my body in certain positions. I wanted to know what you guys think i should do. Here are 2 schedules:

monday: 30 min cardio and 60 minutes power yoga
tuesday: 45-60 min cardio
wednesday: same as monday
thursday: same as tuesday
friday: same as mon and wed
sat: rest or cardio
sun: rest

or should i do this:

monday: 45-60 min cardio
tuesday:90 min yoga
wednesday: same as mon
thursday: same as tues
friday: same as mon
sat: rest or 90 min yoga
sun: rest

Do you think one is better than the other? I'd love to hear your opinions.

I have no idea which one is better, but I personally would prefer the 2nd schedule of alternating the cardio & yoga - although that is if you do not have an issue with 90 mins of yoga, I would not :) Also, just curious if you ever received your mat since it would work well with yoga as well :)

What a neat rotation! (I also like the second one better, but could NEVER do 90 minutes of yoga... maybe 60.) Keep us posted on your results!

i did receive my mat and i love it! in fact i used in this a.m. with the yoga and it was perfect. thanks again for the mat suggestion.

i think i will do the 2nd rotation. i will keep you ladies posted. the 90 minutes of yoga is hard for me both mentally and physically but i think its a good change of pace and a good way to challenge myself without running myself into the ground.

I would say the rotation where the yoga is not on the same day as your cardio seems to make more sense. But, then again I do my yoga at night before bed and not in the same session as my cardio. Try one week with rotation A then do rotation B and see how it goes. Sounds like a good idea to me, but I really favor yoga over just weight training.

I am at my most flexible after cardio. Poses that work on flexibility come easier and deeper. I dont like to do intense cardio before a sweaty long power-style yoga session. Power yoga tends to incorporate poses that focus more on strength and endurance than flexibility.

So my suggestion would be to mix up the styles of yoga to do something very flexibility focused once or twice a week AFTER cardio and do separate cardio only or power-yoga only sessions the rest of the week.
