Yard Sale Etiquette

I am having a yard sale in a couple of weeks and I need some feedback on what to do about some items I want to put in it. Over the years I have received gifts from family members that have just sat in cupboards and not been used at all. They are not expensive gifts, more like knick knacks and things, but I am ready to get rid of them. So what do you guys think of putting them in the yard sale? My mom and sister may see what I am selling and if they see something they gave me, I dont want them to be upset with me -
Any ideas------
Thanks!
Michelle

Tell them, "I appreciated the gift, but never was able to use it, so now I'm giving someone else the opportunity to give it a good home and love it."

But I know that's sticky... been through it myself, but luckily that line seemed to work. :) An alternate plan would be to give the "family gifts" to Goodwill and then just sell whatever else you planned on including in the Yard Sale.

I get around this by marking it ahead of time and packing that stuff in a different box. I keep it in a closet in the garage and when the family members take off, I get it out of hiding and put it on the sale. It's a little sneaky, but at least it spares any hurt feelings while still getting it outta my hair.;)

Best advice I have for you is to not invite your family to your yard sale if your going to put gifts they gave you up for sale. Can you have the sale and not let them know what day it's on?

When there was enough potential value, I've put gifts on eBay.

I've also sent wedding gifts to a local consignment shop before...mostly because I don't have the patience to stand around a yard sale all day. :p
