Good Morning!

Work has settled into it's usual "Sunday" night pace. It's been a good night. I still have one more night to go before being off and it's been close to 2 yrs since I've worked 4 nights in a row! Normally I don't work 4 nights because of it being hard on the body, but once in a while it's not so bad. I just hope that I will be able to walk when it's all said and done! Last time I did 4 nights, I couldn't hardly walk the next day....except that's before I started wearing Birkenstocks. I now live, breathe, die by my Birks at work!

Anyway, yesterday was an AWESOME upper body workout! I did DB bench press with #25's 10x4; BB rows #60, 10x1, #75 10x3; and various other assundry exercises. These were the ones I was most excited to see gains with, though. I also was able to do a set of tricep dips with my legs on my step for the first time, too. The other 3 sets were done with my legs *almost* straight.

I am signing off until I get home so I can finish up the shift stuff. I hope that everyone has a great day and I will check in later. :*

Personals:

TO ALL: Question on Recovery Weeks…. I am reading conflicting data (what’s new) from all sorts of “reputable sources”…. Some say every 4-6 weeks, some say every 8, some say every 12. Usually the time is determined by fitness level I would think (although no source seems to cover this point well)…. I guess my question is – is fitness level subjective? If a person can hoist 60# for squats but can only do 2 toe pushups are they fit (4-6 week recovery range) or unfit- (8-12 week recovery range). Using Cathe & Tony examples…. Since we all had been pretty much using Cathe for lifting could we have done a longer cycle of X before recovery weeks- not that we weren’t fit but we certainly weren’t accustomed to X. Feedback- thoughts please! TIA

TracyX
Its pretty amazing how our medical community so lacks the Practice what you Preach mentality isn’t it? I realize that as stress levels rise in jobs it can affect it all but stress is subjective isn’t it? I commend you for sticking with your plan of 8 reps yesterday…. That is STILL my greatest challenge…. Its all about focus isn’t it- not going on auto-pilot with Cathe is hard… Great elliptical w/o too!

Amy:
Gosh your Saturday shift sounds horrid! I am amazed how you have learned to just move forward without total burnout. VERY IMPRESSIVE stats again!!!! Doesn’t seem like you’ve had any “bonking” on your new program…. Proper Fuel is key- once again proven !!!

NicoleX:
Oh that looks good! NicoleX!!!! How well deserved is that little old X? So – any fanfare at home regarding your graduation? LOL on Jan 07- You are a glutton for punishment my dear! I so tried fitting in Yoga yesterday as you suggested… Just didn’t happen with DH connected at the hips! Although I’m not overly happy about this I have decided to give this week a go at more Yoga a bit differently so it doesn’t get blown off by “life”. I am going to do 30 minutes as my first w/o of the day and if I can get in a PM session GREAT! If not then at least I’ll have a little each day under my belt.

SandraX: How was your Cake Class this weekend/?

Cheryl: OMG I NEVER knew that about Imax- & I use the original more than any of them!!!! Guess what I’m doing for my interval work at some point this week!? That CRACKS me up!!! On KickBoxing & Legs…..YES YES YES!!!!! The one thing KenpoX REALLY taught me was how to execute moves in Kick so I could get much much more than a cardio w/o. I know you and Sandra are not huge KB fans bur you absolutely cannot beat its toning properties. I did a 3 x a week kickboxing rotation a few months back and have to say that my arms were the buffest they have ever been. My legs slimmed as well AND I didn’t have a need to do endless floor tyupe work because Kick became my sculpting…. With all the cardio focused tapes tho you have to really discipline yourself to stay focused on proper execution and core engagement or its just another cardio. ROFL about Pike/Ball! OF COURSE you do all ab work first! That’s in my world anyway…. LOL

TeddyGirl:
Hope family day was fun! Sounds like it was a Family Foodfest! INVITE ME!!!

WendyX:
LOL about the prosthetic leg! The reason I actually do the PlyoX warmup is so I can be humiliated if I start slacking! LOL I tried emailing you TT info- do you know that you are “disabled” on Cathe????? Wjhats the deal- were you getting nasty messages by jealous women on boards???? ANYWAY… If you email me your email address I will get you necessary info to make a buying decision! [email protected]
{{{{{{{{{{{{{{fil}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} You are a good DIL! Very Very Good Heart Ms WendyX!

DebraX: Bet those CC are still smokin’!!!!! So happy you are back and ready for a little routine to settle into place! When do we see pics of DD’s funky bedroom? I remember doing bright pink walls & periwinkle mini blinds in mine! LOLOLOL

JeanetteX: I feel like I keep missing your posts that tell us you are away…. I miss you!!!

LaurieXX: Hope the faire was productive and COOL this weekend!!! How are you liking the shorter w/o days with this months Cathe?

Great Day to all!

Good morning ladies! Hope all is well with your worlds this morning. I have no idea what workout I am going to do today. The only thing I have done for the past 5 days is walk like crazy! We walked all over NYC, so at least there is that! I have a busy morning...DD starts camp today (9-12 each day)...plus also have to go to the grocery store, dry cleaners, pick up the pooch from the kennel, and various other boring things that must be accomplished! Any thoughts from anyone about a workout today?? And a rotation to start?!?

Teddygirl, Tracy, Nicole, and Wendy be sure to look at my last nights post for personals...

for today....

Traci...I think that recovery week is subjective. I think that if you are doing a super tough rotation...ie lots of heavy weights, not many rest days during your week, lots of cardio, etc. then you need a recovery week every 4 weeks or so...If you are only doing moderate weights and not doing a rotation that pushes you to extremes then you can probably take a recovery week every 6 -8 weeks. Just my opinion of course, and backed by no research!! Hope you dislodge DH from your hip today. When does he leave for his guys week?? Good luck on getting your yoga in. I really enjoy my yoga days...and but it's hard for me to fit it in everyday. I have to keep my workouts to no more than an hour and minutes or so a day. So...let me know about this Turbulence Training..I would like to hear more. I will take pics of the new house in another week or 2 and post them. I will be far enough along by then to have some good pics.

Amy...Glad you had a good night at work. Hope you are able to walk tomorrow!! I remember working on my feet for 12 and 13 hour stretches and it was okay...but I was in my 20s...I am sure I would not be able to move the next day if I had to stand for that long now! Glad you enjoyed your upper body workout yesterday. Sounds like doing your own thing is working out for you. I also got a kick out your little old wandering man the other night...My dad used to sundown while he had Alzheimer's and he would always make comments like that!

Okay...I am sure a couple of people posted while I was typing...but I have to go for now. I will catch up with everyone else this afternoon. Happy day to all who follow!

Happy Monday All:)

Man oh man, this weekend flew by so fast. My sister Daphane BD dinner was very nice. We went to Ruby Tuesday there salad bar was awesome that’s all I ate. Ladies, I loaded everything they had at the salad bar on my plate:) then went back for second:) my family couldn’t believe I could eat salad like that, I was stuffed. Plus me, ordered sirlon steak, potatoes w/sour cream, soon as I seen my platter I told the waitress I'm going too need a box, x( everything went so perfect, sis was happy.

For the first time in weeks I slept all the way though I couldn’t get up this morning to save me life, everything just seem to had caught up with me, cleaning, lack of sleep, driving, cooking breakfast for my son's and grand kids, blah...blah... I’ll check back later. Happy face!

Good morning all!

Had a busy weekend doing tiling, DH's family reunion, housework and cycling yesterday. Not much computer time. I got on last night and did a bunch of personals, then hit the wrong button and lost all of them. Am trying to limit my computer time and get more things done around the house. Also, I'm watching part of The Tour in the mornings and catching the ends later on. Off to watch the Rest Day coverage.

Today was Slim Series Tone It Up. Will try to get in an easy bike spin after work as I did a 60 mile bike ride with lots of climbing yesterday. Have an organized ride this Saturday. Love this upcoming ride, the scenery is so beautiful.

Will try to do personals later, but please forgive me if I don't get to them. I think of all of you and love to read your posts.

Wendy, the tiling went well, even got DH liking it. I think he's a natural as he used to do a lot of sheetrock work for a living years ago. Mudding comes easy for him.

Congrats again to Nicole on finishing the tough part of P90X!!!

Jeanette

Good morning,

I have a meeting this morning, so I'll bbl for more chat.

Yesterday I did PY4H: Total Happiness Routine
This morning: Power Hour, with 4 push/pull up circuits inserted.

Have a great day,

Hi all,

Today is GS CT, a run, and some yoga. I ended up doing yoga yesterday because I felt tight.

TO ALL: Question on Recovery Weeks…. I am reading conflicting data (what’s new) from all sorts of “reputable sources”….

Here's my reply, sorry to be so long winded.

Traci - First of all, as far as research goes, and I think that Sandra will agree. No matter what your perspective, you can find some research that supports your views. Just like the interval vs. SS conflict for burning fat and improving performance. First of course fitness levels are subjective and in some ways exercise specific, grossly defined, strength vs. cardiovascular endurance. Those two categories could be defined even further, weigh lifting strength, vs. functional fitness etc. on and on. I think that needing a recovery week depends on how intensely you are training relative to your personal fitness level. I guess what I'm trying to say, is that if you are training at a 8-9 level on some scale (0-10)that is unique to your fitness level, then a recovery week is needed once you feel that you are close to a peak with what you can do with that particular rotation. You don't want to go over the breaking point. If you are only training at a 5-7, then you may be able to go months without a recovery week, because the body is just not being pushed to it's limits. Progress working at an 8-9 level will come faster than progress at the 5-7 level, but eventually it could all even out if you are savvy enough to keep increasing your intensity while working at a 5-7 level (eventually it will just become too easy and this is where I think people stagnate, doing the same thing over and over, "Oh, I got my workout in today!" mentality). That's why I think that goals are so important. You have to establish a goal for your workouts, that is defined in physical terms above where you are performing, or you are just on maintenance program. JMO. That is why I don' think that your goal can be to decrease BF, it must be defined in terms of physical performance growth. JMO again!

Tracy

Hi, everyone! Happy Monday! I'm feeling my chest from yesterday's PUB - and thought briefly about GS Legs today, but think I'll stick with cardio instead.

Traci, we are all so lucky to have you as our very own personal trainer - and you have really opened my eyes about kick boxing. You have my attention. One of the reasons I'd given myself for avoiding it was the preponderance of knee trouble among gals who do a lot of kickboxing, because so many of the moves torque on the knee. I've kept thinking why aggravate my knees when there are so many other forms of cardio I enjoy?

But now I'm realizing that in a balanced program, the toning and also advanced cardio benefits are too great to ignore. Sure glad I talked to you this morning }( }(

Teddygirl, so glad your sister's b-day dinner went so well. It sounds like you had a great time.

Sandra, good luck with your meeting. Hurray on Power Hour - good choice -

Amy, good luck getting through work! Hoo rah on yesterday's good workout!

BBL,
Cheryl
P.S. Sounds like Tone It up is popular today. Tracy and Netta, enjoy!

Good Morning Ladies!:)

Thanks for letting me vent yesterday. I finally voiced my frustration to MIL yesterday. She put me at ease. Apparently, she can contact them anytime she needs to for medical issues. Since we are here, she doesn't want to bother the nurse on her day off. She's too considerate of others! ;-) Anyhow, the nurse is coming today. I'm going to make sure that the bathroom situation is addressed!

FIL has been sleeping ALL the time which is a change. He wakes up for 5 minute stretches in a good mood, eats or drinks a little, and falls back to sleep. MIL is worried that this is a sign that the cancer is spreading fast.

I've been on the phone this morning trying to straighten out the insurance for the 24 hour live in aide. Long story short: If we can't find 24 hour care with a company MIL and insurance approve, we'll take turns with Phil's brothers to stay with them.

Phil is mopping the kitchen floors. (I made him! lol) I'm going to be making cucumber sandwiches (dd's favorite). Eldest ds is getting his physical today in New Jersey. And, poor Baby is home alone! Ds's gf is coming to the house a few times during the day to let her out. I didn't have time to workout yesterday. I doubt I will today since 2 of MIL's 9 siblings are visiting today. Although, they might not mind seeing my butt in the air, I do!:7 Anyhow, my foot is feeling worse today. I think I might have overdone it yesterday.

Time to make a few more calls and start on lunch.

Tracy-X: I would love, love, love information on TT!!!! I need to go and change my account. I think I disabled it on accident while changing other settings. Anyhow, you can email the information to [email protected] I'll check my email when I get home. Hopefully, there will be TT info for me to read!!!! :) No pressure!;-)

Jeanette-X: I WANT PICUTURES!!! I bet it looks gorgeous!!! That took no time to finish! I'll post pictures of my kitchen soon. I still need to do the final progress pics and fit test too. Glad to see you back!!!!

Ballistic Hugs to ALL!!!
Wendy

Debra: Thank you. I will never forget the day I cut my hair off 16 inches, my family thought I lost my mind and my X husband almost had a heart attack. I didn’t tell anyone what I was about to do. I had just finished working out, at that time I was doing The Firm. I told my X hubby I’ll be right back, when I returned with short hair he pooped in his pants, boy was he mad. When working out I sweat bad

Tracey: I missed something didn’t realize you had grown sons. May I ask you and the rest of you guys how old are you?. You don’t have to answer if it makes you uncomfortable, I’m being noisy

You guys already know that I am 50.

Happy 10:30 check in Xers….
Workouts still pending as thunderstorms hit this morning but are clearing out now!

Thank you so much for feedback on my burning question regarding recovery weeks… I probably should have clarified that the deep thought didn’t pertain to me personally as I feel I am FINALLY in tune enough with my body & its signals & needs…. I was thinking more in terms of applying the principal to my future clients. Even AFPA talks in 12 weeks and I just think that recovery weeks should be based on more personalization with individuals… Even with X- Phase 2 I was feeling very strong and think I could have benefited from 1 additional week…. Phase 3 I was way to fatigued by the 4th workout week to give it much more than lip service…..

Specifics: *
*TracyX- I like your “scale” thinking in terms of personal levels… I shall actually use that with my clients. As far as a (my) BF% reduction goal. I totally agree that that in & of itself will not cut it… I guess its semantics. To me BF reduction is the ultimate objective (Goal) and all the rest are the sub goals-“ How to Achieve”. I just have always set goals in that manner. I appreciate you stating that point of view because if I didn’t have the sub goals I would certainly have had to re-think my strategy.

*DebraX- point well taken about including all facets of a program in the recovery equation…. I agree- if one is doing tons of cardio (subjective) on non strength days a recovery week may indeed be in order sooner than a straight lifting rotation. Thank you for that input.

Cheryl: Thanks for the vote of confidence! I LOVE ya!!! As far as joint issues with Kickboxing… That’s where proper technique comes in to play… I think the blog referenced this nicely over the weekend…. If a first exposure to KB is one of Cathes earlier productions I see where people can feel joint pains & aches…. I think this new series and her future KB series will be much more suitable for those focusing on form. I like Kimberly Spreen for form, Janis Saffell StrikeZone & a few others. On PUB! YEAH – it continues to amaze me how versatile that w/o is!

SandraX: GREAT w/o!!! We’ll catch up later.

WendyX; Info in your email! You weren’t venting yesterday…. I value the fact you feel you can share with us. Lets face it- personal lives DO affect our health & fitness.

JeanetteX: So happy you are just busy with projects these days and that all is well! Yep- It Tone It Up day in Xer Land!

TeddyGirl: Wonderful fun weekend! You are like the energizer bunny!!!!! …. 44 and SPUNKY!

DebraX: W/O idea? How about Imax 1- and report back on the bra pad!!! Seriously tho- why not do Cathes current month rotation with LaurieXX…. Its all about time efficiency!
DH leaves at 3am Wednesday morning….. Its crazy around here until then! I’ll shoot you some TT info as well!

TracyX : BIG w/o today!!! You go girl!...

Big HI to all who follow!!!

Hi to all! Hope everyone is doing well today. I got a lot of my errands done this morning...which is good...and DD really enjoyed her camp....which is good....but I have an incredibly nasty headache, that I have had since yesterday...of course, bad. I ca't seem to shake it...I've taken everything under the sun...still hurting. I scheduled myself a massage for Wednesday...I think it will help if I have a decent masseuse, but I may end up at the chiropractor if it doesn't help.

To catch up on a few personals....

Traci...Good luck with kicking DH out the door on Wednesday...I'm sure you'll be up in plenty of time to help him pack, etc! I will take a look at the Cathe rotation.

Wendy...Sending out a few more {{{{hugs}}}} to you and your family. I am sorry you guys are going through such a rough time right now.

Teddygirl...So funny about your haircut...I bet your X did almost poop!! It looks great short...I was just expecting it to be long! I hope I look as good at 50 as you do!

Nicole...Have fun with YogaX today!!! I will be interested to hear your take aways from the X...as well as your feelings about each workout. Like...which ones do you think you will do again post X?

Cheryl...PUB always gives me DOMS in my chest too! Interesting that you think kickboxing bothers your knees more...when I have noticed that stepping really bothers my knees the most. I guess everyone is different. It bothers me to run too, but biking seems to be helping. Who knows?!?

Jeanette...Will be interested to see picks of your tiling job when you are done. Enjoy watching the Tour! Sorry you lost your posts last night...I hate it when I do that!

Tracy...Sounds like you have a great workout on tap for today. Are you still feeling tight...or did the yoga help yesterday? Thanks for your information about recovery weeks, too.

Sandra....Hope your meeting goes well...and have fun with PH!

Laurie....Did you survive the heat at the faire?

Okay..going to run for now and take some more drugs for my head. Then I get to start on laundry and clean out the litter box. Whopee. I will probably do some pilates today and stretch a bit...I don't think my head will be able to take much more than that. Have a great evening everyone!

Hi all,

I don't have much time because I have a ton of things to do before tomorrow. I did GS CT and really felt good. Better than when I did BSB yesterday. I was able to stick with a 50lb BB (not real good, but considering I kept up with Cathe's pace, OK) and 22 lb DBs through the entire chest routine and I did 8-11 reps, depending on how I felt and that was after the pushups and I didn't take any extra breaks (nice run on sentence). I probably could have gone heavier with the BB, but was too lazy to increase the weights. I will next time.

Traci - One more thing on the recovery week. I think that there is a big difference between lifting light weights to the point that you cannot tolerate the lactic acid build up, than using heavy weights and working to failure. Obviously buildng up a tolerance to lactic acid is definitely more endurance based and in my opinion, would require less of a recovery week than working to failure. Even though when you work with light weights you may actually feel more worked I really don't think that you are. JMO again. But if I was working with a client, a recovery week may be just as important mentally, even if it is not really needed physically, and you would have to take that into account to maximize your effectiveness.

Annointed - I'm 47. Not telling isn't going to make me any younger:) It's all in perspective anyways. I'm in better shape now than I ever have been. The boys are 18 & 20 now.

Off to pack etc.

Hi to everyone, sorry no time for real personals.

Tracy

TracyX- We'll miss you tons! Have a great time and THANK YOU so much for all your input!!! :* Safe Safe Travels!!!

Good evening!

Had a busy day at work today, got a walk in on my lunch (20-25 min. long) and then a 20 minute middle chain ring spin on the bike (used the trainer) this evening. Tomorrow I plan on a good hill bike climb after work.

Traci, how was Tone It Up? It went by pretty quickly for me. That floor work was a killer with the ankle weights.

Amy, I love my Birkenstocks too, though I really need to get a new pair. With hurting my toe, it's made me walk differently and my feet have been bothering me lately. Today was better and hoping they will improve even more. Think I may need to get some new inserts for my workout shoes too. Wow, you are really lifting some iron! Good job!!

Debra, glad you had a good time in NYC. I love walking but hate the standing around. That makes me more tired than anything. Have you decided what rotation to do? I need to decide on something here in few weeks. I keep going on small vacations so it doesn't seem like I've stuck with anything long enough to make a difference. Sure hope the headache has left you. I too need to clean the litter box. I hate to say it, but when this cat is gone, no more in the house. She's a nice cat and all, I just would prefer the cats stay outside.

Teddygirl, love your new Avatar! So glad the birthday dinner was good. I love spending time with family. Reminds me that we need to plan a dinner out at a restaurant that sits out over a nearby lake. It's so peaceful looking at the water while eating a nice dinner. I'm happy that you got a good night's sleep too. I only got 4 hours sleep last night, but that was self inflicted as I stayed up late watching TV. Think I will sleep good tonite. I've always had short hair. I have thick hair and would have loved it long, but always felt like I looked better with it shorter around my face. Oh yeah, I'll be 49 in November.

Sandra, Power Hour is a workout that I don't have but I hear good things about. Hope your workout was good. You haven't reported on any mishaps with your children lately. How is the baking? Loved the cake decorating pictures.

Cheryl, PUB is a workout that I have always liked. I'll be getting back to heavier weights soon and will definitely include that workout.

Wendy, you are sure staying busy with your FIL's matters. They are fortunate to have you. What is in a cucumber sandwich? Don't think I've ever had one before. I went looking for grout today in our little town and couldn't find anything that would look good. I'll have to go to Reno and look. I told DH I wanted the hearth finished by Sunday as I want to tile then. My big bike ride is on Saturday so Sunday will be a good day for tiling. I'll take pictures when it's all finished.

Nicole, hope you enjoy your Recovery Week. Did you notice good things happening during that time? I always felt like I would shrink some. Think the puffiness would leave during that time. Got to where I looked forward to RW.

Tracy, glad your workout was good today. I get lazy about changing my barbell sometimes, heck, lots of times. To tell the truth, I've been kind of slacking lately, but feel myself starting to get more serious. I can't go great guns all the time. Hope you have a great vacation. Will you be able to get online with us?

Got to go, hope to get to bed earlier tonite.
