WW Points

They give you a neat little scale where you line up the amt of cals, fat and fiber and it tells you the points.
ex: 1 slice of regular bread is 2 pts
1 slice of highfiber bread is 1 pt

Sometimes it can be frustrating and annoying if your fave foods don't have much fiber because fiber is a big factor in calculating your points.

1 point can also be as low as 35 calories. I ate a piece of chocolate today and it was 70 calories and came out to 2 points. It was high fat and zero fiber. But it was really good :) (a lindt dark chocolate truffle yum!!!!)

On average 1 point is 50 calories. but 70 calories with more fiber and less fat can be 1 point also. It is a balance of fat, calories and fiber. But a calorie is a calorie is a calorie! It is important to remember portion control. Having said that, I relyy like the ww program, but you have to be honest with yourself in point counting.

Can I just add that in the UK they only use calories and saturated fats they do not include fibre so the values are slightly different.

I just joined WW and keep thinking- wouldn't it be more accurate/effective measure of what we really eat to just count calories and give people a calorie range instead?? I'm wondering if WW made up this complicated points system because it would just be too simplistic to tell people to count calories?? Just wondering :)

I think part of it was in a long range strategy to revamp its image after the mid 80's when not only did the membership begin to slide but and to offer a new way to slim and gain over their competitiors like i.e. Slimming World, Jenny Craig and others. The point system is to make things easier to calculate food values and you get a calculator to help you work out the points. Personally I do find it easier than counting calories but that's just my personal opinion.

But going back to your main point about points the way it has been promoted here is that this is a much easier system that will help you add variety and allow to eat the foods you love in moderation rather than when you counted calories, and if you realised they would cost you lots of points you are less likely to eat them.

Counting points is easier, for sure, than adding calories all day long!
