WW online

so i just joined WW online. I'm excited as i'm hoping its going to teach me moderation and help me with my all or nothing eating. So they put me at 18 points per day (all i want to lose is 5% of my body weight which is like 5lbs) anyway i calculated what i have been eating and it was at 26points!!!! no wonder i'm not losing any weight! I'm eating far more than what i realized and i can't belive it! Since i sit most of the day except for when i workout they put me at 18 points. I have the tendency to eat more when i exercise thinking i deserve it. I only seem to do this with cardio workouts though. So i ended up binging today b/c i have been super strict with myself. After my binge i have decided enough is enough. I'm going to go do some type of workout but i'm really thinking of nixing cardio for a while to see what happens. Mabe to 3 full body weight/circuit workouts and do some yoga or physique 57 on my down days. I keep focusing soooo much on how i work out and what matters most is what i'm putting in my mouth! So if anyone cares to comment about WW i would love to hear what you think.

I've done ww. 10 years ago or so I lost about 40#. I think it's a pretty good program. Back then we were given a points range and my range was 18-25 ppd. This was before the flex points etc. We had to "bank" our points to plan for little indulgences instead of just weekly getting 35 flex points. I hardly ever ate just 18-maybe once or twice a week and other times I would eat as much as 27-30. This amounted to zigzagging which I think is a smart strategy.
I'm not sure what a ww point is actually worth calorie wise. Our leader said about 50 points, so 18 points would only be 900 calories and that's too low IMO. Even 26 points would only be about 1350. A person should be able to lose # on only 1350 kcal per day.

Try zigzagging your points. 18 one day, 25 the next, 20, 24,18, etc. keep your body guessing.

10 years ago when I lost my 40# I was not doing any activity other than walking. I wasn't into weight training then and didn't do any step workouts etc. only the walking and I sucessfully lost 40# in only like 4 months. So it definitely works.

YIKES! 18 points = 800cals!!! No thanks! I'll have to go to the website and see whats up with that b/c that definately isn't healthy! Thanks for you input. I'm excited to try some of the recipes.

I did WW online last year for awhile. I forget what my points allotment was...but one day I was curious and added up the calories and yea, it was only 1200! No wonder I was losing weight!! And I did lose some weight but then I stalled out, probably because I wasn't eating enough. I know some people have had a lot of success with it, I think you just need to figure out how to make it work for you. I've since had more success with logging in my calories at thedailyplate.com and it's free.

I think WW is good to learn about halthy eating habits, portion control, etc. I lost 20 pounds since joining last summer and then I hit a snag this year; turns out my points calculated to about 1400 calories a day, meanwhile I was working out like a fiend. I eventually starting GAINING weight! I mentioned this to my leader and she told me to stop lifting weights and decrease the intensity of my workouts. Well, there was no way I was gonna do either of those, so I took that as my que to leave gracefully. I was so proud of my improved cardiovascular performance (ie, getting through MIC without pausing!!!) and new strength levels that lowering my intensity was out of the question. I was also becoming frustrated with the program because generally speaking, leaders/members have very little knowledge when it comes to fitness beyond moderate levels.

For the past 3 months I have been counting calories as opposed to points and that has been helping me break through the plataeu. Although, I must say; some of those point values are so ingrained in my brain that I think twice before noshing on a DQ blizzard or a Friendlys ice cream sundae!!

so i all ready canceled my online membership LOL! It just got so confusing with all the points and calculating activity points blah blah blah. Having my points so low will for sure make my binging worse! I'm thinking that mabe i need to eat 1800cals a day to feel good. Ive been striving for 1500 but i'm tired a lot, i don't sleep, and my weight isn't moving!!! Mabe i'll do best if i stick with clean eating for the most part. I'm just so over feeling deprived all the time and constantly thinking about food. The exercise part I have no problems with but the diet part is so hard!!!!

I think Tamrahan's suggestion was a good one and would also work with counting calories. "Zig-zag" calories up and down sometimes dipping below and sometimes going above the 1800. This way, your body is kept guessing and won't realize you are trying to lose weight! Good luck to you and let us know how you are doing.

I tried WW and although I think it's a good program to help someone learn portion control, it wasn't enough food for me to stick to (I think they gave me 21 points?). However, my sister-in-law has almost lost 100 pounds over 1.5 years and is doing great and loves it.

At the beginning of the year I lost weight on 1500-1600 calories for 3 days, then one day at 2000, and then repeated. I was still hungry sometimes on the lower days, but it wasn't so much that I couldn't stick with it.

Hi Kariev,

I saw you already canceled your WW online membership, but thought I'd share my experiences anyway.

I lost 33 lbs several years ago on the regular WW (meetings) plan. I knew that the "default" points allowance was way too low for me (I think it's set for a non-exerciser with a low metabolism), so I added 10 points per day to the points I allowed myself. I consistently dropped 1 to 1.5 lb per week. I never said anything to the leader or other participants about the adjustments I made for myself. I got to my goal weight and kept it off until I got pregnant.

Fast forward a few years - the 33 lbs came back. A couple of months ago I joined WW online. I am doing the same thing now as I did previously - adding 10 points to the value WW recommends for me. As long as I stick to it (for me, that's 30 points per day, plus 35 flex points per week) I drop the weight quite nicely, even though I'm older now at 48. I discovered that I'd gotten up to eating 40-50 points on most days, and sometimes as much as 90 on weekend days, and I was maintaining my weight on that. So the weight is coming off - I'm down 10 lbs so far.

I guess my point is that it's not necessary to follow the program exactly as written. I used it as a guideline and experimented to find what worked for me. I know that I need to keep my trigger foods (ice cream!) to a minimum, as my weight loss slows if I eat too much of them, even if I stay within my points. The occasional treat, and being reasonably consistent (i.e. no 90 point days), work for me.

Melissa, this is so funny - a similar thing happened to me when I tried a WW "at work" program a couple of years ago. The leader kept telling me that muscle weighs more than fat so I needed to decrease my muscle - she didn't think it was a great idea for women to lift weights. She also said that everyone in our group should always assume "moderate" as their exercise level when calculating activity points, as none of us would be in the "high" intensity level. I got frustrated and quit going to the meetings (even though I'd paid $12 per meeting in advance). I'm much happier now in the online program as I seem to do better being self-directed.
