Workout Warriors Jan 24th - Jan 30th

Hi Warriors!

Kim – Don’t tell you daughter, just yet. Snot, tears, and drama isn’t the support you need. Can you take someone else with you? I’ll go with you virtually. When is the appt? Would love to read any skits, short stories, tele-plays, first chapters etc… of anything you have written. :)

Donna – Holy Gluteous Maximus! I liked Tonique…well, maybe like is too generous of a word, let’s just say I’ll be doing it again. Did you notice Sylwia’s little stick arms while she was doing push ups? Her form was lacking too. Thanks to Cathe the push up to plank intervals were the easy part. There were a few times I could’ve used subtitles, but I figured she wasn’t saying anything that was terribly important.:D

Cathy – Happy grocery shopping.

Jenn- I can relate to one rest day evolving into many rest days. Setting short- and long terms goals, having a rotation planned, plus doing some form of cardio every day, even a small amount, helped me break through the tendrils of lethargy. What are your goals?

Kimberly – What are the downsides to having two dogs? I followed, The Scwarzbein Principle, created by Dr. Diana Schwarzbein, for many years. It is similar to Atkins in some ways. Her program helped me get on track and restored my health. She convinced me to eat higher protein, good fats, whole carbs in useable amounts, and lots of veggies.

Spring is over and we are back to end of January winter weather. Curses. I have a walk planned later with Rowan and then household chores. Boring. Enabler Alert - on the not so boring side, after being frustrated with the Athleta pants I ordered and sent back, twice, I ordered two pair of Nike dri-fit pants from Zappos. …I really love them. Here are the links. http://www.zappos.com/nike-be-bold-dri-fit-poly-capri-black-black-black-white

Ok – that’s it for me.
:D

Janis LMAO!!!! Yeah, I actually haven't noticed her form on the push-ups. I'm too busy trying to see if there's some way engaging my core can keep my skin from sagging while I'm planking. Unfortunately, I haven't found it yet. I've done the workout 3 times and there's this one spot where she says something that I cannot figure out. She actually says it twice, and I have NO clue what it is - funny you should say that about the subtitles because I was thinking the same thing today. I crack up at the end when she talks about having a "delicious" butt. Her counting is lacking too. Have you noticed when you finish the plank/push-ups and you have to do the 30 pushups on your knees? She starts counting down from 30, and gets to maybe 26, and then the next number is 15. Bad editing? That's OK.... I'm fine with the 20 pushups at that point anyway.

I love Nike Dri-fit stuff. I have a bunch of their shorts and a few u back bras, no pants though.

Didn't end up doing any abs work last night. I had to stop at Best Buy on the way home to pick up some things I'd bought online, then went to the grocery store and wine store. The wine store had a few wineries in doing tastings, and it would've been rude to not taste their wares... and I came home with 3 bottles.

I was jonesing for a really good burger last night, so I tried a recipe in Rachel Ray's current issue last night. Definitely not on the diet approved list (though I did used ground bison) and it was fantastic. Glad I went that route for dinner, because I had to buy some stout beer for the recipe, and ended up buying a mixed 6 pack of fine beers. When my boyfriend showed up after work, he was in a miserable mood. Seems 2 moms at the tae kwon do school he manages got into a fight right there in the lobby. One was letting her kids who weren't taking class run amok (very common at that school) and the other had toys for her children. Seems Amok Mom was peeved about the other mom having toys for her kids and wanted something done about it. I didn't really understand this at all, nor did BF and he couldn't give any explanation as to why she was bothered, but she started a shouting match. BF had to pull them into his office to diffuse the situation. He was not a happy camper when he showed up. The killer burgers and awesome beer made him a happier camper. That pleased me and I gave him half of my burger. It was technically too big for me anyway, though I most certainly could have eaten the whole damned thing.

Today I did my 30 minute run (to Chopin piano concertos instead of Kid Rock) and then I did Tonique Mat. I still haven't unloaded my barbell from my leg workout on Thursday. I should probably do that sometime soon.

Have a great weekend!!!

Speaking of editing oops. Nick was doing STS Disk 21 yesterday and apparently I pay more attention when I'm not actually doing the workout. There are supposed to be 3 sets of incline curls on the stability ball that rotate at the top and the first set is actually hammer curls and then on the second and third set they do the regular curl with the rotation!

My shopping trip was not fun. Went late because of the snow. I'd stopped at the credit union and made a credit card payment and then gone to Meijer (one stop shopping kind of place) to buy most of my groceries. Came out and left my folder (planner) with all my stuff inside in the cart in the parking lot! Didn't realize it until I got to the next stop and went flying back. Not there. Not at the courtesy desk. My credit card statement was in it, so then I'm back at the credit union to see if I need to cancel the card. Teller called VISA and there's a new law that says they can no longer put your full number on the card. Yay for that! But, that still left me without my calendars, lists, notes, some cash, etc. I went to the remaining two stops and then back to Meijer. Still not turned in. Drive home bummed out and trying to remember everything that was in it! Get home and DH had gotten a call from the credit union and THEY have it. Whoever found it apparently was also a member and took it there. I may very well have crossed paths with them. So, while it'll be a few days before I get there (it's about 45 minutes away) at least I know it is safely tucked in their vault. Thank goodness for honest, helpful people.

Donna - that's crazy about the fight your boyfriend had to break up. You would think it would have been the other way around! Bringing toys for your kids to play with seems like a far more reasonable thing to do then letting them run around and irritate everyone. I know I certainly always brought things to entertain mine in those situations!

Kim - I'm with Janis. Wait before telling your daughter. The chances are pretty darn good that it's really nothing. We'll all be with you in spirit.

Janis - I know that Sparty would love a friend to hang out with, but I'm really not sure I could handle Sparty x 2. It's what has kept us from doing it. We may have a huge fenced backyard, but we have a small house. When I briefly (couple hours) took in two dogs that were running loose, he had a blast wrestling with the boxer, but, that level of activity in my living room was just a bit too much over the top.

Have to seriously sit down after supper and make out my rotation for the week.

Kim, do you have a plan for cardio/abs during STS? That's another thing I need to figure out and then I'm going to set it up and load it into the workout manager.

Hi to everybody! Hope everyone is having a productive week-end. I have spent the day relaxing, reading, even taking a nap. We bundled up and took the dogs for a walk. And I THINK I am going to go do a STS total body premix, even though it is now 7:00 p.m.

Janis: I love having two dogs. The downside is twice the vet bills, twice the food bills, twice the hair and mess, and twice the poop. But the are more than double the fun. Considering the older one was 6 when we got the new one, they've turned out to be quite the chums. I read recommendations to not have two female chows, that they won't get along that well. Totally untrue in my case. The Swarzbein principle sounds very similar to Atkins. Eat good food, not crap!

Hey Cathy,

This morning I sat down for the first time had a proper read through the guide. Oh my it's all so thorough. Every question you can think of and it's right there. All answered - everything covered :D :D :D How long every w/o takes, equipment, order of service. It's so fantastic and I've got a teeny bit excited.

I NEVER thought I'd have this. I couldn't see a way to afford it. I'm so grateful that I got it at that price. Thanks everyone for your help and support (((& extra big HUGS to Mary)))

As far as Abs is concerned. I mostly do abs daily as that's my problem area. I do my normal w/o in the morning and then abs late afternoon - that way I don't rush it by tacking it onto the w/o and taking up extra time.

But I've got a bit sloppy.

I was thinking that this morning when I did The warm up + step challenge + Blasts from BM2 + the squats and lunges + upper body = about 70mins w/o. I've been dodging stuff a bit during January and cutting corners. Unusual for me because I'm VERY competitive, especially with myself.

So STS Abs (I got that for free snigger chortle) needs me to have a watch through. There are (I think) 7 different routines - although one is partner, so that's out unless I can adapt. I was thinking one per day in my normal p.m. slot. That's if they're under 15mins. That won't work out if they're long like on Core Max.

Cathy what are your thoughts???

So glad you got all your stuff back. Bit frantic there for a while, but it all worked out. That's coz you're a good person :)

Janis : be careful what you wish for. I've written loads. I didn't think I could do it. I thought I'd get all bogged down with where to start, what to do, then I'd get blocked and confused.

I took a different approach I just sat down and it all came pouring out. Gush Gush. Loads and loads of it. It needs polishing of course.

Then I was wondering. My first thought was to set up a blog. I could literally do that now and load up about 10 pieces. But then I thought well if I could pull it all together into a narrative to make a novel or even punt it round and flog some stuff as short stories or articles. Then the best idea would not be to unleash it on the net and just give it away in the hope of attracting sponsorship or advertising somewhere along in the future.

I don't now want to put anything more on here in case people get irritated with my mucking about - but I'd be more than happy to PM/email you something. In fact I'd be very very grateful indeed to have to look it over.

Thank you for your encouragement (everyone)

Appt 10a.m. Wed 02.02.11. Should be back early afternoon - which is still only 8-9a.m. for you. Hopefully just a couple of X-rays and out. I've said nothing to DD. We've already had a full blown crisis today because she's not paid her car insurance for 2 months. They take it directly out of her bank and she's not had enough £££ in there to make the payments. So now they've just cancelled the policy and so she's got no insurance and that's totally illegal here. She's carrying on like someone put her Granny in the car, drove it off a cliff and taped a sign to the window saying "Tasha dun this". The World is not ready to receive DD - my work here is not done

The universe has aligned itself to have something regularly wake me up at 4:30! This morning it was Nick putting a cat out. But, I did workout. LIC Timesaver Cardio. Going to nap later though.

Kimberly what premix did you do?

Kim you'll love STS - when you're not hating it. :p I sometimes find myself doing that cutting of corners, too. I'll be zipping along doing tough, intense workouts just fine and then one little thing will happen and I'm suddenly choosing shorter workouts, or less intense workouts or getting distracted and not starting my workout on time and then having to shorten it!

When I'm doing STS, I generally do STS M-W-F and cardio Su-Tu-Th. Abs I put in a few times a week. I've always done abs fairly frequently, but there is the line of thought that abs should be worked hard the same way as other muscles. A 30 minute hard ab work followed by at least 72 hours for recovery. I've never really put that to the test. Has anyone here tried it? Usually, I do abs on cardio days. I generally avoid doing abs on the same day as upper body work. I personally feel that Cathe was at her most sadistic when she put not only ab work, but ab work with pikes! at the end of Upper Body Pyramid. Totally cruel.

I hope you get your daughter's insurance straightened out. Have to have it here, too, and in the last few years they tightened things up to make it harder for people to drop their insurance and not get caught. Tracking systems between the insurance companies and the State government.

And just as an aside, Nick has recently learned to snort FAR TO WELL, and is totally obsessed with doing it. I really, really hope this phase doesn't last long. I'm generally fairly tolerant of such things - knowing they will pass, but this one really bugs me.

Oh, and Ab Circuits. They are between 10-20 minutes long. The medicine ball ab, switches to being partner abs around 10 minutes. I actually like that one a lot for days when I don't have time for a longer one. A good portion of it is standing work with the ball, so it's pretty different than normal ab workouts.

Hi everyone, just a quick hello.
It was great to meet Kim at the airport, but I feel like a heel now asking her to come with the inconvenience of getting to Heathrow.

If anyone ever gets the opportunity to see the Totem by the Cirque du Soliel...do NOT think twice. It was the most amazing show I've ever seen, and I'm sure the most amazing show I ever will see. We had wonderful seats, were so close we got to see the expressions on the performer's faces even!

London was gray and drizzly and Simon kept saying it was cold, but to me, it was pretty much sub-tropical, coming from Minnesota! :p

I got back Friday, was lazyyyy and didn't work out yesterday, so basically had a week off working out and just did some stepmill/elliptical this morning.

Well we're going into February soon, so at least the days are getting longer!

Peaceful Rainbow: I did the first pre-mix. Compound exercises. (STS total body) I enjoyed it 'cause it was a little different. But I felt like I had to hit pause between each segment to change my dumbell weights. Maybe I was just slow moving yesterday.

Tonight I did Imax2. Love the music in that one. Love Cathe's pigtails too. Tough workout.

Kimberly

Calling it a loss for working out today. Derek's doesn't feel well, so I was on Mommy duty all night. Didn't get much "good" sleep and slept in. I'll just nap for the second day in a row. Chances are in a few days, I'll get extra calorie burn with the snow and blowing that's headed our way. Anyone else here in the path of that storm?

Kimberly, you aren't the only one that sometimes doesn't have enough time to adjust your weights. I try to be organized enough ahead of time to make fast changes, but it's just not always possible.

Mary I'm glad that you enjoyed your trip. The show sounds fantastic! And yes, HOORAY for the longer days. :D Yesterday it was still reasonably light here at 6 p.m. and I could notice because it was actually sunny! Something we won't be seeing again till about Thursday.

See for the second week in a row, I woke up so out of it on Monday morning that I forgot it was Monday morning. Suzie is obviously far more awake than I am!

Happy Monday, Monday -

MKeefe I’ve been to London twice and loved it. The weather was a mixed bag, I think - but I know I had a few days where it was nice. I saw a Cirque du Soleil here in Buffalo a few years back. It was wonderful. I just can’t get over the strength of the performers.

KadetKim so glad you’ve finally got STS in hand! I need to see if I can find my guide. I’ve never read it - lol. I’m one of those “just jump in and figure it out as I go” people. I love Medicine Ball Abs from Ab Circuits - even though I can’t do the partner drills. It’s a nice short one, so I like it for days when I’ve just had enough. I just don’t like doing it on Shoulder days.

Kimberly & Cathy I’m a slow weight changer too. I always have to pause because sometimes I have to do the math of which plates I need to put on. And then there’s the whole thing with getting the clips on and off... putting my vest on if I have to... finding the right weighted gloves... blah blah blah. The only time I think ahead is when there’s drop-sets and you only get 10 seconds in between. That’s still tricky sometimes, though, because it involves the microload gloves which don’t come off all that quickly.

So today was my first day of Active Recovery Week! Woo-hoo!!!! 8 weeks of STS and I finally get a break. I ran yesterday (it was a David Bowie day... ehhhh... not great for the treadmill, better for cleaning) and today I did Alyssa Wyatt’s Intermediate Pilates. I probably could’ve gone for the Advanced one, but I really need to get the technique down. Those teasers are hard. My balance is really lacking on those. But I must say, I love Alyssa! Her instructions are aces.

So in the last month, I’ve added Tonique Mat, Paul Katami’s Kettlebell, and Alyssa Wyatt Pilates to my workouts. I’ve got to figure out how to incorporate them all into STS. Ugh. Planning is NOT my thing.

I sure do wish the weather would get warmer. My training plan has me going back up to over 5 miles on Sundays again, and that’s something I’d rather do outside. Of course, I’ve got my daughter this coming weekend and she doesn’t like me running outside when she’s home. She’s afraid I’ll get hit. So cute.
