Workout notebook?

The post by Kathy S. reminded me to ask this. I could really use a system for keeping track of the amount of weight I am using in my various Cathe workouts. I've been keeping track on a pad that all the pages are falling out of. It's not a very organized system. Does anyone have a more organized system for keeping track of the poundage you are using in the various workouts? Perhaps I should just get a big spiral notebook and leave several pages for each workout so that I can have room for future weight changes? I'm curious to know what others are doing.

I have a 'teacher's' calendar. There are no dates so you can use as much space as needed, so I use two full pages per month. Gives plenty of room to list workouts, weight, goals, comments, etc...;-)

Hey Nanc! I have a friend here, that at one time, had many of the workouts listed in order of the workout and the poundage Cathe uses. Next to it, I write down the poundage I use and if it changes, I just "X" out the former weight and write down the NEW weight next to it. Let me see if she still has them and I'll get back to you. (Not sure she has the very latest series but I'll ask.)

I have used MS Word to make a blank table, about 15 columns by 25 rows. I label each sheet with the workout's name and then fill in each exercise for the workout down the left side. I date it across the top each time I do the workout and fill in the poundage as I go along with little frowns or happy faces if something went well, was too easy, or too hard. I fill in the poundage whether I change it or not from the previous session.

When I feel particularly motivated at the computer (or gosh darnit, have too much time on my hands - haha), I go ahead and type in the exercises in the table and save it in a "workout logs" folder and just print out a blank sheet when I need it.

My notebook is a huge 3" three-ring binder deal with sections for weight logs (separated by workout series), rotations, and miscellaneous articles/threads I have printed out.

I may not be able to do pikes on the ball yet, but when I can, you can be sure there will be a place for me to write it down - LOL!

My system is a little simpler, but it works well for me: I print out the workout outline from this website (there are a few I had to write up myself because Cathe didn't have the break down), put the weights I use next to each exercize, and put the sheet in with each dvd. That way, each time I open the dvd, there's the outline with the weights I need to get handy. I just fold up the sheet, but you could cut it to fit nicely in the dvd cover.

I sent an E-mail and a PM off to her. I'll let you know what I hear. I haven't "seen" her around here lately.

Oxygen Magazine was selling a spiral notebook that had space for all your exercises, amt of weight used & at each set of reps. It was about 5x7.

I bought it, but I just don't like pausing my workouts to jot down weight amt & reps.

I do mark off all my workouts on a calendar. I just ordered the other one from Streaming Colors someone suggested. I can't wait!!!!

My system is almost identical to Susan's, except that I always print the names of the exercises right onto the workout sheet & save it as a master...I run off copies when I need one. I really find it helpful to know what weights I've used & when.
In my calendar section I list what cardio was done & any comments I may have for that day's weight workouts, if I did one.

Nancy, I do what Writer does, sorta. I have a piece of paper inside each DVD or VHS box. It has a handwritten list of the exercises, and the weights next to them, all in pencil, and I just change them as needed. I love my little system. I lay the paper down near me and glance at it if I need to.

I just looked but didn't see anything. I'll look at one of my issues & let you know. It's an 800 number. The log book is not expensive maybe $10.00. Also it's thick so it'll last a long time. I'll get back to you this evening.

Hi Nancy, I'm one of those harried moms, so my system is simple. I record my workouts on one of those free calendars I get from our local businesses (this year I'm using the nice, glossy one from the used bookstore). I use this pen that has four ink colors in one. This way I can color code my workouts -- green for strength/endurance, blue for abs/core work, red for cardio, black for yoga/stretching -- and not have a bunch of pens cluttering my dresser.

I also keep a small notebook, about 4"x9", to record my weights. I only get to write in this notebook when I increase my weights. I write down the date, the workout, and the new weights. I don't even write down the exercise. I just jot down the body part, then the weight/s in the order I used them. So that I know one set from the other, I jot down the weight used for each set on separate lines in the notebook. This way I can also make notes, like "can go higher" or "burned out by 8th rep" -- short things like that.

Since I use light to moderate weight for legs, I don't write down weights for leg work anymore. I know I want to max out at 45, no higher. So this notebook gets used only for upper body weight work. I also notice that the heavier my weights get, the less I get to write in this notebook.:(

Hey Nanc!

Patricia got back to me! If you can PM me or E-mail me your E-mail address, I will send it to you as an attachment. I can not get it to link here. Also, the credit goes to PatriciaP for doing all the work. I have found these sheets to be priceless!

**************************************************************

In addition to the calendar, I was working on a journal--you know to keep track of my goals weekly...it's not completed but I have posted two of three sections (front/back cover, workout pages, & diet pages). I'm using a standard 3-Ring WilsonJones Bindview binder which allows me to insert front & back covers & three-hole punch the WorkOut & Diet pages.

(There's a text file that you can read that shows the status as I add/modify things).

You can see them on the Yahoo Group: CatheFans if you're interested.

Regards,
Cyndi
