Working out on sore knees?

My knees have both been giving me problems the past few days and have been causing me a bit of pain every now and then just when I'm walking around. I recently did the first stretch in Stretch Max (the one with no equipment), and that has a few yoga-type balancing poses that I figure might be the culprit, but I'm not sure. I also recently did Cardio & Weights.

I was planning on starting Cathe's April rotation tomorrow, and the first workout up is Imax. My question is, should I wait until my knees aren't hurting to do cardio? Or do the video but modify it to make it low impact? Or do a different video entirely?

It's frustrating when I get pains like this, because they happen after the fact so I don't know what it was that I did to cause it, whether it was jumping wrong or not using good form on a weight exercise. I don't want to injure myself, but at the same time I don't want to make excuses and wimp out on workouts, especially since I've been sick off and on for the past few months and have had trouble really sticking with rotations because of it.

Advice? Thanks!

I'd say do another workout entirely. I'd avoid doing step at all (even low impact) until your knees feel better. Do you have access to a gym? If so, you could swim or use an elliptical. If not, you could try walking outdoors. I think you need to try for low/non impact right now. And don't think of it as wimping out. Your body is talking to you and you are being smart by avoiding an injury that could really disrupt your workouts. Hopefully you'll feel better soon and will be able to do imax to your heart's content.

When my knees get achy I either walk or do low impact kickboxing workouts (no power scissors, no jump kicks etc). That works for me. I would not do Imax 1 for sure. I found that one to be particularly killer for my knees and not easy to modify without taking away most of the intensity. JMO. What step height did you use for C&W? I never go higher than 6" on any step workout or my knees really complain. Some people find that 4" in their limit. You might play with step height to see if that triggers/alleviates knee problems for you. Good luck and I hope you're back in action soon!

Chocolate IS the answer, regardless of the question.

Not related to your question, but I had to tell you that I LOVE your avatar!!! I have three piggies myself. :)

Thanks for the advice everyone. I have access to our local community gym, so maybe I'll use that as my cardio until my knees are feeling better (either elliptical or stationary bike). Butts & Guts is on the rotation for Saturday. Should I avoid standing leg work as well and just stick with the floor work?

Liann, thanks for the compliment, and it's good to hear someone else has piggers as well. I've got six of them and I love them to death! I don't understand why they're not more popular pets, they're practically living stuffed animals. So cute and lovable!

I couldn't agree more! I love my piggies! They are such little cuddlers once you pick them up. And they definitely are little pigs. My DH thinks they are hilarious because they squeak like mad whenever they hear the refrigerator door open. They think I am getting them veggies. ;)

Here's one my babies, Angie:

Would love to see pics of yours!
