Working out on an empty stomache

Cathe,

The only time I have to work out consistently is at 5:15 am. I take thyroid medication in the morning and I can't eat for 1 hour afterward, so I end up working out on an empty stomache. Is this really bad for results?

I've worked out on an empty stomach for years without a problem, but.... I take my synthroid after I workout usually! Just the way I do it.....

I can't answer as far as results go just from experience. For the longest time I worked out on an empty stomach as well. For several yrs now though I drink a protein shake prior. For me that's Muscle Milk - just 1 scoop. I wake up at 4:30 am & am at it by 4:45. It gives me added protein & I do feel like I can give more to my wo's this way.

They say it's okay to do cardio on an empty stomach but when weight training you should have a carb and protein before your training. If I workout in the am I have a protein shake and a 1/2 cup pf berries.

Not Cathe,
But I also have always worked out on an empty stomach with no issues in my results.
For me, I can't have anything in my belly or I get major cramps!

I'm just starting Synthroid myself, so I'll be taking it pre-workout. Hopefully it doesn't make me cramp!

I do cardio on an empty stomach in the a.m. Also before I take my thyroid meds. Except for a cup of coffee--I'd actually discussed this w/a trainer the other day, he said coffee was good before a.m. cardio, it helps burn more cals. ;)

Hi! Quick question - are you mixing it with milk or water - and do you use 8 oz? I love Muscle Milk but have never tried it before working out (esp. cardio) - I'm afraid I might slosh. Just curious!
