well, I am going into my 6th straight month of working out at 5 am and I can say... now, finally... that I love it...
now, that said... I don't have kids... but, my days and evenings are so busy anyway, that I had no choice but to work out in mornings.
Plus, honestly... I will find any excuse in the world not to work out in the evenings... there is absolutely nothing in the world like that feeling of having your workout out of the way for the day.
It is hard... very hard to get that routine going... I struggled and struggled to get out of the bed..it took a good two months of consistancy before I could say that I was just starting to get used to it. It is still not easy, but I am so programed to do it, now.. that i just do it..
I find the first few minutes of the workout are critical.... I have to have a good slow starting warm up and then I am fine. If I am doing a workout that has a fast warmup.. then I walk and march in place and move around quite a bit before I start... The warmup is what is very critical to me... If I start too hard and fast... I don't have stamina for the workout.
I am in the bed between 9 and 9:30 each night. I am usually asleep by 10....
If you can find a way to make it work for you... once you get used to it... you will love it... I do now... but, it was a hard road.
The motivation was my determination to finally get in shape ( I have lost 35 pounds with about 40 to go)... and I work with a nearly 60 year old man who is up everyday at 5 a.m. to run 7 miles.... I would get my butt out of the bed by telling myself "Fred...is up running... I can get my butt up too." and I did.
