Winsor Pilates? Anyone tried it?

A question for the educated crowd. I love the pilates moves Cathe has been incorporating into her recent videos. I have all of Cathes workouts and would like to balance out some of the weight work with some muscle lengthening workouts like pilates. Has anyone tried the Winsor workouts? If so, which ones have you tried and did you like them? If not Winsor, can anyone suggest a Pilates DVD that would compliment Cathes workouts? Thanks in advance for any suggestions:)

Just wanted to give this one more try before it gets buried.;-) Can anyone recommend "any" good Pilates workouts on DVD/tape? Thanks.

I just did a search regarding this yesterday and found that alot of forum dwellers found Mari to be too slow with descriptions and not enough repetition for a good workout. I am also looking to add some Pilates to my routine and wanted some ideas. The threads that I saw mentioned Jennifer Kries of The Method Precision Toning and Karen Voight's Pilates.

I am wondering if it is ok to do a traditional step/cardio or weights workout in the day, then do a Pilates workout for an evening workout. Does anyone here do this?

Hope this helps,

Thanks so much for responding, Tricia. I just hate to make an investment in a "series" of DVD/tapes that I am going to grow tired of or not use after I become proficient at them, i.e. TaeBo intro and beginners tape, etc. I will look into Karen Voight...I used to do her Energy Sprint and really liked it, but that was before Cathe ;-)

Thanks again,

Redrocks,
Yes, I have the Winsor Pilates set, and if you're new to Pilates, I would definitely recommend it. I've added a few other videos to my collection, such as Hilary Burnett's Mind-Body-Mat, Stott Advanced Matwork, and Quick Fix Pilates for Abs (w/ Keli Roberts) - but I still incorporate the Winsor workouts into my routines, usually the Abs Sculpting, Bun & Thigh Sculpting, and Advanced Body Slimming (all around 20 min each). I love using Cathe's Ab Hits DVD, but I like to mix things up with pure Pilates Abs, too.

To answer your question, Tricia, yes, I often do add on a Pilates session either right after a cardio/weights workout or later that night. I find that they strech me out and really improve my flexibility (esp. after a heavy lifting session), plus it's an added ab workout!

Good luck and hope that I was able to help!

I know what you mean..

Hi Redrocks,
I know what you mean about series that you outgrow - now why can't they all be like Cathe and give us a series that never gets old!! I just recently bought Karen Voight's Ab & Back Reform (I've done it twice) and really like it. It is geared more towards the "average exerciser" in my humble opinion. I don't mean that intensity-wise, more in the language Karen uses. For instance, when doing the Seal(rocking back and then balancing on your sitz bones, and repeating), she never calls it the Seal. I just know this from doing The Method. I also like both instructors (Kreis and Voight) for their thorough explanation and visualization techniques. With Ab & Back Reform - I finally understood where I was supposed to feel certain exercises and really benefited from that.

Let me know how your search goes & good luck!

My favorite pilates workouts are Moira Stott's. I have one of Ana Cabans, some Voights (yoga/pilates inspired), and Kries' old Precision Toning (very good). I haven't tried any of Winsor's pilates tapes. I've been at this for several years & I'm still finding Stott's intermediate workouts a challenge even as I improve. Ditto w/ Precision Toning.

I like Voight's enthusiasm but her workouts aren't classic Pilates. One will still get a nice core workout. Also Kries & Stott might be too low key for some.

Ideally I do Pilates or yoga workouts on cardio days but if I'm going to do Pilates, I skip any ab work in the wt training video. I like to get my cardio & wt training done in the a.m. & do the mind/body fitness at the end of the day.

I am glad you said that dimples, I hope I got your ID right. I just ordered this Winsor Pilates thing today, for $46. and some change. I figured this would be good the nights I work ... I work with a mentally handicaped women and she goes to bed at 8 pm and then I can do them, I work in a sleep house which means I get to sleep, its a 17 hr shift. Theses pilates would be great, so I wouldn't have to drag weights and step bench along with me.
I should be getting them in 2 weeks..... :+ Rhonda

I agree with Debra. Stott is the best Pilates instructor on video (in my opinion)--I do advanced; husband does beginning. I also love the old, original Jennifer Kries Precision Toning. Kries new series is not nearly as effective, washed out and not effective. (Why, why did she do that???!!) murph :(

Thanks everyone for responding! You've given me some great advice and a lot of avenues to check out. I was reading up on the Stott Pilates workouts today on the Collage website. You guys are in good company, a lot of people highly recommend those workouts. I may pick up a Winsor sometime, but I don't think I'll invest in the whole set until I've tried one. I am not familiar with Jennifer Kries so I will have to look into her also. Thanks again, you guys are great!:)

Stott DVDs

Hi redrocks:

I emailed the stott pilates web master recently and asked whether these are coming out on DVD. I got a quick and enthusiastic reply that sometime this summer the mat work videos would also be available on DVD. Have you seen them in your research? Let me know if you get them because I have wasted the last two years trying to get the best one (I should just buy one and do it until I can buy another!) GRIN

RE: Stott DVDs

I have the Winsor Pilates set, and I've only been using the 20 minute workouts. I add them on to my Cathe's. My favorites are Advanced Body Slimming, Ab Sculpting, and Buns & Thighs.
