Will winter never end? A whiny post.........

Yet another snowstorm hits NJ. It probably wouldn't have been that bad except it rained all morning, so now we have 2 inches of ice under 3 inches of snow. I went out for lunch (which I NEVER would have done had I known the road conditions) & it took me 45 minutes to go 2 miles.

Here I am shopping for my summer bikinis & sandals, & it seems as though we've entered the ice age. Someone give me hope! And if you live in my area (NYC metro), PLEASE stay home, safe & sound!

I'm right there with you! It was 66 degrees yesterday, then this morning is was a rain/snow mix that turned quickly to snow and dumped 2 inches. It feels like 14 degrees outside! It wouldn't be so bad if we hadn't gotten the great weather tease yesterday.

Spring has to come soon.....:-(

You go ahead and whine, and I'll whine right along with you! Yesterday here was warm and grey and rainy and today it's 25 below zero with the wind chill (celsius). I'm rethinking my run tonight.

BLARGH!!!!!!

Oh I hear ya! It hasn't stopped snowing since 6 AM. We're going to get 9+ inches today. It's so windy too. I had to stop and get gas this morning and the snow was blowing so hard in my face and hair}( . I kept hoping it's got to end. Darn that groundhog.
One positive thing, the roads are pretty well maintained, which is good since I've got a 30 mile commute home.

Lunacat knows what I am talking about! We are in VIRGINIA..ya know, the SOUTH! (((HELLO))) Uh, this is almost the middle of March too??? Someone slap me or am I just having a nightmare?
O.k., now that I am really whining, just found out we are to get another snowstorm by end of this week.
I am pulling down the blinds and turning on the sunshine...CATHE on FitTv and be in the world of fitness only...the weather is too depressing right now, but Cathe's workouts will keep us all feeling like summer has already arrived...lots of sunshine and sweat!!!
Gotta love Cathe!!!

Even here in Central Florida, it's crazy this year. It's going down to 48 degreees tonight. This is unseasonably cold for us.

Candi- Hey, I just remembered my DH is going down to Florida tomorrow on business. Guess I can't be too jealous then. HA!

I'm in northern VA. It was almost 70 here yesterday and we had rain changing to snow this morning and it is 25 with strong wind gusts. I am ready for spring, and a lower electric bill.

Tracy

You can be a little jealous cause the high will probably be in the high 60's and sunny during the day.

DH was raised in Springfield, VA. We talk to his mother from time to time and she said it has been so cold and dismal there this year :-(

Tracy,

Where in NoVa are you? I'm in Falls Church.

Edited to say:

Oops, sorry about the potential thread hijacking. Tracy, PM me if you feel like telling me. Sorry again! :( :)

Just thinkin the same thing this morning. Yesterday in upstate NY - 50 degrees and sunny for part of the day. Later on though, temp dropped 40 degrees!! Today with wind chill, it's minus 4. I am really weary of it. I have heard a couple of spring birds chirping in the am so that's a good sign. Spring can't come soon enough for me. Enough already.

I'm in the NY slosh, too. Winter is starting to drag a little, but I need it to stay cold a little longer. I'm finishing up a sweater I'm knitting and I want to get to wear it once before the end of the season. Spring is nice, but I dread summer. Summer in NY can be nasty - hot, humid, and gross. August is the worst, so if we could skip it I'd be happy. How about May/June, and September/October year round? (although I must admit I like the cold and snow, too!)

I love the cold, it makes me feel great, and I can do so much more without having poping pain meds because the heat of summer causes me soo much pain and I can only take so much before I need a little help to keep going. But as the saying goes, if March comes in like a Lion it will go out like a lamb which means warm weather is around the corner, so this really is a good thing it's really cold right now, it means that summer is nearly here and it will warm up really quick.

My old timers were right, they told me last summer we'd have one of the worse winters in the last 10 years, and at first I didn't believe them as it sayed pretty warm threw November. And then a couple of weeks before Christmas we finally got winter and snow, so it really hasn't been that long for us. Just basically 2 and 1/2 months or so.

I even seen it snow up at the Grand Canyon in Az, June 18, it was my high school graduation, and my school booked a white water rafting trip for the seniors. But it had to be rescheduled as they got over 3 inches of snow, and the colorado rive is pretty cold in the summer, the won't let people raft when it's snowing as it's too dangerous for a lot of reason, one is if you fall out of the raft you can get hypothermia really easy, and being in an area where moderen technology can't reach you, that's a very bad thing, as even if you get hurt on a trip, they still got to hike out with you until they are high enough up in the canyon so they can bring in some type of air craft to haul you all the way out. For those that don't know, the rim of the Grand Canyon is over 5000 ft above sea level, they get snow there every year, and they get a lot of it. Even parts of the rim are blocked off during winter because they are so snowy and icy, that they are just too dangerous to visit and explore during winter. But if your intested in Skiing if that ever happens to snow while your visiting the Canyon there is a huge ski resort about an hour away.

So yes the snow fall that late in the year was unusual, but it wasn't a freak thing, like getting snow never happens. We did all get to run around and throw snow balls at each other, just we were all in t-shirt and shorts, since the part of Az we were in, was up to 110 already. No one ever thought of packing a pair of pants or a long sleved shirt. So we were all pretty cold in a short time and headed back to the nice warm bus.

It's one of things I love about Az, drove 3 or 4 hours, and you'd be in a competely different enviroment with competely different weather. Some of the city folks would actually drive up to Flagstaff go snow skiing for the morning then drive back to Havasu and jump on the lake and go water skiing in the after noon/evening during the winter.

Besides it could be worst we could be living in Antarctica were 50 degress is a hot summer day and -40 is a nice winter day. And at night it gets much colder as well as if you have an snow storm can easily drop to -80 or -90 degrees. You don't have to worry about driving, you'll be nearly frozen by the time you got to your car. That's when you actaully live under the snow because it's warmer then being on top of the snow. I know it's cold and it seems like winter has been going on forever, but it really hasn't.

Stay healthy and go workout to warm up the body,

Kit

Yeah, I agree. Winter!! I am soooooooo done with it. I want to see green, flowers popping out of the ground, I want to go walking with just a t-shirt on, I want to wear skirts and sandals.

Bring on the blue skies, let me open my windows and throw off the comforter, and I want to go for a picnic real soon!

Spring: where are you?!??!?!?!?!?!

Clare

We are expecting 83 on Thursday and you are all invited to join me for a dose of Springlike weather. We'll have to share exercise equipment but I have a lot and I think we could have fun!

We had rain, rain, rain this winter which is great since we've been in a drought but it was unusually cold and sunless. I can't whine because I know I'd get no sympathy from people who deal with real winter. Well, I can't whine to you guys. In the 18 years since I left Michigan, I have never wanted to go back for winter and you have made me remember why! Hang in there. Spring is coming!

Here in the people's republic of Oregon it is sunny and 72 outside.

I do not feel like lifting weights in the basement, but I am going to anyway.:p

I hope it warms up for you soon. It sure sounds miserable.

take care
Maggie

>Here in the people's republic of Oregon it is sunny and 72
>outside.

72....drool.....

It's 22, and the winds are 20 mph. The forecast says that it feels like 3 degrees, but when I was walking back to my apt tonight, the wind was whipping off the water (several blocks away) and right up my block, and WOW. It was unbelievably cold--3 degrees would probably feel balmy in comparison. So yeah, count me in on the whining. I hate waiting for winter to end.
