Wild Yeast Sourdough Starters Exchange

Suzanne,

I never thought I'd see this link again. So nice to hear from you. And so glad to see you haven't given up baking. Practice is key. I use Debbie Meyer BreadBags. It works very well. But, now I'm curious if these bags are safe to use. I'll look on the internet to see. They do work amazingly well, and hope I don't find anything wrong with them.

Take care,

Janie

Hi Janie! Thanks for checking in to those bags. I'm probably asking for something that doesn't exist, LOL.

DH and I may get over to my personal Nirvana - Kitchen & Company store and I'll look around to see what's available.

I'm also shopping for organic dry milk powder because I just cringe at what the generic stuff I've had on hand is actually made from (purchased before Food, Inc.).

My local supermarket stocks just an enormous variety of Bob's Red Mill products and they appear to be a good company.

DH and I love bread that I call "sticks and twigs" just chock full of grains and things. That will be my next experiment.

Waiting on my digital scale and my sprout kit...... fun stuff!

Suzanne, Yes, watching Food Inc. scared me into many different and interesting things. All good.

I hope you find something to put your bread into. Let me know if it's anything different than the bags I suggested.

I'm going to have to look up sticks and twigs. Sounds wonderful.

Have fun with the scale and sprout kit. I love sprouting too.

Take care,

Janie

Hi Ladies!

I'm glad to see you back! I was surprised to see this group back on page 1 of the check-ins! I, too, have been on a baking hiatus! It's really too hot in my kitchen in the summer for baking much! I'm looking forward to getting started again!

Suzanne - Good luck with your breads! I'm sure they'll come out beautifully!

DH loves pumpernickle bread, so I'm getting up the courage to try that. It all looks so daunting because they are multi-day breads and with work, it's difficult to time everything! I may wait until I have some vacation days to do it.

Other than that all is well! We just dodged a big bullet with Earl who went farther east, so we didn't get hit with any of the tropical storm or hurricane force winds. It all stayed coastal, mostly in Massachusetts.

Nothing much else new! Just plugging along!

Tricia, How nice to hear from you again. Let me know how the pumpernickle bread turns out. I would love to do that too. I've continued on with the sourdough and already made wonderful bread from every one of you. It was a joy. so glad you are safe from Earl.
