Wide Squats versus Narrow Squats: Are your weights different?

I just did disc 17 and my legs/butt are singing right now. I am not sure if it is a happy song yet.

So my question is: When I do the narrow squats it says 80lbs weight, so I did that and it worked out fine (I did it with the Barbell). Then when I get to wide squats I have no target number but since it is in the same triset as the deadlifts I used the same weight with the barbell, 65lbs. I still felt it but I am concerned that I should be much heavier than that. Unfoutunalty I don't have enough weight to have the barbell loaded and the hand weights loaded (they are both adjustable) and there is not enough time between the sets to change them. Should my wide squats weight be the same as the narrow squats weight?

How different are everyone elses weights?

Thanks for the input
Heather

I used the same weight. Both were equally hard.

I tend to go heavier on deadlifts than squats. Is 80 on deadlifts absolutely impossible for you? Maybe you could sort of compromise and do 70 or 75 on the deadlifts so that the squats are heavier?

For regular deadlifts I do 80lbs but for the wide stance ones I was lower. I am sure that I could still do it.

I am doing each week twice for Meso 2 so I can do that next time. i really just have not done weight training before and I don't have anyone to compare myself to.
Thanks
Heather

I go heavier as my legs go wider. I go my heaviest on Plie Squats. I think it has to do with adductor muscles assisting the quads...
Also, the closer my legs are the more my torso leans forward on the downward motion, working the spinal erectors. During Plie Squats my torso is definitely upright and vertical.

hmmm, mine was a bit different - heaviest for Plie, then narrow, then wide leg lightest.

Mine are heaviest for regular squats (121), mid for deadlifts (95) and lightest for narrow (85).

It seems very accurate for me. I just did Disc 14 Legs yesterday and I have to admit that I was afraid when I saw those weights on my card, but I stuck with it, slowed the rep speed down to maintain good form, and I felt GREAT, with TONS OF DOMS today!

Wow!
My Plie squat (on Meso2) is 45 and I thought that seemed really heavy!

I'm with you! My plies were 35 but because I like dbs for plies and 35 is the heaviest db I have right now.

Wow, Gayle! You've inspired me to (maybe) try my barbell with the squats. I think I could go heaver than 70 (I've been using my pair of 35 pound dbs) I think if I used my barbell instead, I could go a little heavier. (NOT 121, though!)

I think I just have to buy more weight. I never thought I would be able to lift this much. The barbell set went up to 110 lbs, I laughed at the time!

Well, I have always been able to handle very heavy weights with these endurance-built legs of mine. lol I have DBs that go up to 35s (and a single 40), but I can do much more than that.....I learned that while doing a new rotation over a year ago, so I began using my barbell for all squats, deadlifts, lunges, etc. Otherwise, I'd top out at 75 MAX using DBs. I'm still using the single DB for plie squat with alternating hands, but starting with next week's repeat of M2W1 (I'm doing the 6 month rotation), I'm going to use a BB to go heavier for those also.

Now, let me say, also, that I was honestly concerned with the amount of weight my workout card called for when I looked at it for this week's leg workout. But Cathe knows best, right? So....knowing that I need a slower rep count for such a heavy weight, I actually start the exercise a few seconds before Cathe and crew do, and I go a tad slower...and I ususally end the entire set at the same time as Cathe. The slower motion is so much better (for me) with such a heavy weight, and it allows me to use my proper % of 1RM and finish the set (most of the time, lol).

It's amazing what you can do when you push yourself!

In general when my feet are wider than shoulder width apart I can squat using heavier weight. When my feet are about shoulder width apart than I use less weight. When doing a front squat I use less weight because of the balance and grip issues.

This is exactly what I do and for the same reason--more muscle groups recruited and I don't lean forward as much.
