Why the time change??

Cathlete
I know all the history behind it and the what is was intended for, but in this day and age it just doesn't make sense to me.

And I hate it!!!:eek::eek::eek:
Why don't we just keep it the same instead of making it darker in the winter??
Like that helps my mood right?? I want to go to bed at 6 o'clock. And eat lots of comfort food!!!

Doesn't the government care what this does to my diet and exercise?????

The government likes to keep you off balance, so they have more control over you. Especially the weekend before the election. My advice is to put on your tin foil hat and turn on all the lights in your house when the darkness decends!;):D

:D

I like "falling back." It's "springing forward" that disrupts me. It makes me edgy when it's still light out at 9pm.

Gotta move to Arizona then, no time change/daylight savings here. Our government gets it, maybe because we have had women governors since 1997 :p:D

LOL about Robin's tin foil hat advice

Ellie, I so agree with you! I hate it.:( I feel like all I do is eat and hang around the house! Now, I'm homebody and don't mind hanging around the house, but I feel as if I'm forced to do it. I guess I need to change my mindset and figure out some interesting things to do.
What do you ladies do in the winter?

Carola, too funny about the women in charge!:D

A few years ago when my older DS was just 6, I was tucking him in bed and getting ready to change the time on his clock. He kept looking out his window and when I asked him what he was looking at, he said, "I'm going to watch it turn dark out when you change the time". lol (yeah....I wish I HAD that kind of power, kid! lol)

LOL, Robin! I might just be doing that tomorrow night!!!

I prefer the spring forward to the fall back, even though we lose an hour that way. Ellie, my DH agrees with you...just keep it the same!

I like to "fall back" because I get in an extra hour of sleep;).
It is darker after work (I hate leaving work at 4:30 and it's already getting dark!) But we have more light in the morning.

Remember 2 years ago (I think), the pres decided to move the change to a later date (I still have a 'pre-earlier-change' DVD/VCR that changed all by itself 2 weeks ago!)? That was supposed to be an energy saving tactic somehow. I wonder if there are stats posted anywhere to show if it really did save any energy?

I think a better change would be to adapt the work day to fit the seasons, so that there is at least 1 hour of light before the work day starts, and two hours after work is over. That would be nice in winter! (Not so much in summer, LOL!)

Eat and sleep.

When I get tired of that, I sleep and eat.

HAHA!!

I don't mind Fall Back because I gain hour.. I don't function when an hour is taken from me in the Spring. However, I don't like the dark - maybe I will get to bed earlier.. I am sleep deprived!!

Kathryn, I also have a bunch of clocks that are supposed to change by themselves, all of which now change at the wrong time. Grrrr.

All I know is that last night at 6:30 pm, I honestly thought it was time almost for Desperate Housewives and started to get the kids for bed, thinking it was like 8:30. I nearly died when it was just past dinner time. What a long day!

It makes it easier when waking up the kids in the morning. It was getting to where it was still pretty dark out at 7:30 and they didn't want to get out of bed. Now it looks like morning in the morning. I imagine its even more so for kids that have to wake up earlier. I don't mind it being dark out in the evening. I don't mind the extra hour of sleep either. I popped right outta bed the last few mornings. ha.

In Texas they do it for the earlier daylight benefit for school kids...Personally I love the time now...I get up at 4am so its depressing when the sun isnt up until 7:30am...I can easily go to sleep at night- I often work until 8pm so I really dont care if the sun is shining or not!

ROFLMAO! I said to DH last night...Ya ready for bed? He looked at me and pointed to clock....it was 4:45! LOL

I don't understand this time change either. It's stupid. I remember last year they almost decided against it. I wonder what changed their minds?

I hate how early it gets dark out now. And someone said it, yesterday was one long day.

Doesn't bother me in the least. It's kind of like the change in seasons--I'm ready for them when they happen. So, I love it in the spring when we get more daylight, and I'm ready to hibernate in the winter!

Lol, that is so cute!

I don't mind the fall back, getting an extra hour of sleep, but the spring forward is hard to adjust to. I don't get why they do it either.

My DD15 was going to school in the dark at 7:15. I'll feel better with her back in the sunlight. I do wish we never changed at all - it really doesn't make a difference to anyone - why do it? I think Arizona has the right idea.

Just remember folks, that we're not changing the time for Fall/Winter, we're UNchanging it. :) The last 8 months (or however long it's been) have been Daylight Savings Time, which has us set the clocks one hour later than the actual time. Now we're back to standard time. The clocks change during the warmer months to shift our daylight hours into the evening. If we stuck with this year-round, we'd be in constant Daylight Savings Time. I doubt that would really be a big deal for most people, but as a morning person who gets up at 4:45am most days, I LOVE standard time in the fall/winter because it's not pitch black outside when I leave for work every morning. I don't care when it gets dark in the winter because it's too cold to do anything outside anyway. Give me sunlight in the mornings and I'm a happy camper! :p
