Why Interval Max is Such a Great Workout!

I did IM yesterday, and I've got to say I just love this workout!

Here's why:
1) the moves are simple and athletic, and they make ME feel like an athlete when I'm working out
2) there are no pivoty or 360-degree moves
3) it is easy to modify any intervals and still keep them intense
4) the music is fun-- kind of retro; at times like music from some 1960's spy series--loud enough (without drowning out Cathe's voice because it's instrumental--no vocals), and I've never heard it elsewhere
5) it's good for trivia questions (name a workout in which Cathe does NOT wear her good luck black wrist band; in what workout does a background exerciser lose a 'cookie' and kick it under the step?)

I would love to see another IMAX like it (or like a combo of Imax1 and Imax2): intense, straight-forward, effective.

I still think IMax The Original is Cathe's toughest interval workout, for precisely the reasons you noted, K. It's actually on the docket for tomorrow for me; well, my own distorted mish-mosh of it: I-Max The Original extending the intervals out by 8-16 reps and omitting the recoveries (something I couldn't do with the vid), then I-Max 2's blast #'s 2, 4, 5, 7, 10 and 9, then Boot Camp cardio only premix. I do wish Cathe would remaster the RS/IMax/MIC dvd to include more precise chaptering (i.e. segmenting the aerobic blasts and the intensity blasts with separate chapter points) and doing some premixing (i.e. blast-only premix). But - ya can't have everything.

Between your comments here and the other posts on the imaxes I am going to get imax as my first "imax" video - I like the athletic style best and it sounds like this fits the bill!

Aim for nothing, and you'll hit it every time!

Yep, this is my favorite because of the more athletic style, I am a total stepping fool ) I trip and curse throughout Cathe's step workouts, but the original Imax breaks it down so its easy to understand. And boy, does it get you working!:7

Hi Annette,

I need to buy some new Cathe workouts, and am looking for something intense. I have IMAX 2 and think that its the toughest workout of Cathe's that I own. I noticed that you have the RS/IMAX/MIC DVD package. What do you think of RS and MIC? Are they fun, intense & motivating?

Thanks for your help.

Melanie

Hi, Melanie! I am a total step klutz, so Rhythmic Step is too complicated for me. I can only do the warm-up, which I love. But RS is great for people who like and can do complex choreography.

MIC I love for the hi/lo segment. Especially the last 15 minutes of the hi/lo segment, where it really goes nuclear on you. The step segment is a tad light for me so I haven't done it in several years.

Overall, the RS/IMax/MIC DVD is a great, great value. There is something in it for everyone.

I just did this one this morning to sub for IMAX 3 (on the July 07 rotation) and am soooo glad I did. My face is so red right now, I know that I won't be able to apply my makeup for at least a half hour. This was a great workout.....straight forward, athletic style which I LOVE!!!

Kathryn,

I couldn't agree with you more. I really like Imax 2, can't really get the hang of the step parts in 3 (choreographed step is not my thing), so for me nothing even comes close to beating Interval Max. As a matter of fact I was just wondering why I even keep 3 since I just got 1 a short time ago and absolutely adore it. It kicks my butt without tripping me up.
