I am curious, and thought I would do a completely unscientific poll on why each of us works out

Definitely #1 & 2! :)

Also, b/c it's a great stress reliever, and b/c the gym gives me something resembling a social life. ;)

Let's see...
I like the feeling of being strong...
I think it brings DH and I closer...
I like watching my body transform...
I don't want to be diabetic, overweight, etc. like ALL of the family on my side...
I use it as stress relief too...

You had me rolling on the floor!
I really just want to look like Jennifer Nicole Lee! But, fine red wine is a great substitute because at least I can halucinate about my stomach being FLAT!!! ;)

Thanks for the laugh!
xoxo, Denise :)

Very clever! I workout to try to stave off excess poundage, of course, but more important to me is the stress relief sweating brings and the ability to do the things I like to do. Hiking and biking are two things that come to mind that wouldn't be nearly as much fun if I didn't have Cathe keeping me fit.

1. Definitely to be fit and lean! 2. It is most assuredly fun (most of the time)! 3. It relieves stress! 4. I love to eat and working out keeps those calories in check and allows me to eat a little more than I could ordinarily

Well, my reasons are a combo of all the above I guess.

I really like being strong and healthy. I am not very vain (much to my mother's chagrin) and don't do it to look good, but feel good

1 I am turning 45 and have an 8 and 5 yr old. One day it struck me........... OMG I am old!!! I need to be around a long time for my kids

2. I like being outside and running and playing with my boys. And I can!!!!!

3. I am a goal setter and i am dtermined to make it thru ALL of Cathe's tapes at one point!!!!

4. Education- I have learned so much about cardiovascular fitness (and I'm a masters RN) that it is mind blowing what I missing before.

5. I want to be a good example for my children.

6. ONE DAY, I am running a 1/2 marathon. Bucket list!!!!

You are too funny! Great thread!

But to be serious for a moment: My mom is in her early seventies and her friends who are overweight and don't exercise have the most awful health problems, from diabetes to heart disease and even rheumatoid arthritis. My Mom, who eats clean and exercises at least 3x per week, has no health problems at all. I mean NONE! Aside from worrying about her friends, her quality of life is far superior to theirs in too many ways to even count. So, it's not so much about living to be 150, as having quality of life while I'm here, however long that may be. :)

First, love this thread. Beat up bad guys deffinitely! Second Nancy has your mom always lived a healthy lifestyle. I wish my mom would take a more healthy approach to life. I worry a lot about her health.

Yes, my Mom always has lived a healthy lifestyle. She used to somehow find whole grain whole wheat bread to make our sandwiches back in the SIXTIES. She didn't allow white bread into the house. Not so unusual now, but it's weird to think that was 40 years ago! She's quite the role model.

That would have been very difficult. I remember my mom made us eat Orowheat whole wheat bread in the 70s. I hated it. I love whole grain bread now (but I love white bread too!) but Orowheat had to be the worst whole wheat bread on the planet.

All of the above options, PLUS what everyone else posted: stress relief, better quality of life when I'm older, being around to enjoy my kids & participate fully in their adventures, etc. Lastly, it boosts my confidence to tackle new physical challenges and conquer them.

Great thread!

Immediate reason: I like the way it makes me feel , the "high" I get. And also it does make me a *itch on wheels if I don't get to (a bit of an addiction).

Longterm reasons: All that have been talked about. Longterm health reasons, energy for my 3 boys and work and home, to be fit and lean and maintain my 90 lb weight loss.
