my doctor told me i had chrodromalacia that i need swimming or statioary bike for lowimpact my knees are weak and painful sometimes. He gave me antinflammtorys told me it might go aw ay in two weeks of talking the antiflammtorys. i dont have easy access to a pool so i ordered a stationary bike .Who here likes their stationary bike? And i wonder still if it will bother my knees too?My doctor said the height must be right on the bike or it can do the opossite and hurt my knees but on the other hand he said if the height is right it should strenghtens them .He said not to keep the muscle weak but not to over use it too.

I have never heard of chrodromalacia. I do know that I used to have one of those stationary bikes where your legs hung straight down and when you pedaled the arms moved also. I used to ride that sucker for an hour a day and burn up to 700 calories. It finally just fell apart. It never hurt my knees. Now I have a recumbant bike. I have been on it a few times (prefer treadmill). My knees are fine on that also. What kind of bike did you order?

its a bike and epiltcal machine in one i have had a problem with my knees for a while .its a 2 in 1 Elliptical Cross Trainer & Exercise Bike .
chondromalacia means Abnormal softening or degeneration of cartilage of the joints, especially of the knee

Hmmm.....have never seen one. Have you ever tried taking vitamins for your joints? Tomorrow I am going to walmart to get them. I don't know what they are called off the top of my head. I will know tomorrow. It is specifically for joints.

thnk you i do take vitamins for joints maybe i should up them though. how old are you you dont get any pain working out?forgive me maybe you dont get pain like me everyone is different i used to get pain in the neck and back severely i should be grateful i move to somewhere else in my body

I will be 36 in November. I have been doing great so far. I do no running yet as I am too heavy right now and want to preserve my knees. I don't know about upping your joint vitamins. You need to make sure it won't hurt you if you do.

im 41 small frame always workedout since i was in my early 20s your smart i used to run in my early 30s think it did sometime bad to my joints

I have a Spinner bike that I have had for many years and I have never had problems with my knees..and I taught Spinning(Spinning is basicly aerobics on a bike, if you did not know..lol) classes for several years, sometimes 2 classes a day.

Seat position is critical esp when you are having knee issues to begin with.

When you put your foot in the pedal you should have a very slight bend in your knee (about 5 degree bend in your knee) when your pedal is down at the bottom of the pedal stroke. Your knee should never be in a locked out position while you are riding.

If your hips are rocking in the seat then you know that your seat is too high.

I hope that helps when you get your bike.

:)

Hi Thinkgod1,

Perhaps going to a gym and try a staionary bike there. See if it hurts you or not. My bike is great, I feel it working in my lower body, not my knees.

Good Luck,

Thinkgod1,

I've never had pain in my knees. I've been very lucky. I feel for you and hope you recover.

The bike is low impact & should be easy on your knees. I use the recumbent bike at my gym--I love that thing! Not only low impact, but also I find it much easier on the rear end than regular stationary bikes.....;-)

It's also supposed to help build the rear end more than regular bikes. ;-)
