Who does Cardio Daily?

Fitness-Mom

Cathlete
I was wondering who does Cardio and weight lifting on a daily basis.
I am currently in my 2nd week of, One Body Part a Day Rotation.

I am 5'5 1/2" and weigh at 116 pds. I was wondering if doing cardio daily is over training and/or too much. I am looking to increase my definition and strength overall.

Any suggestions?
Thanks~

Jennifer

I do cardio every day except my rest day (where I do nothing, 'cept maybe yoga). On the days that I do a long (45 min) weights section, I'll only do, say, 20-25 mins of cardio (treadmill). On my cardio-only days it's more like 50-60 mins. And on the days when I'm doing 50/50, it'll be around 30 mins cardio, 30 mins weights. I really like doing cardio before any weight training because I like working my muscles when they're really warm. For me, doing that much cardio is not overtraining because I'm a big eater!!! (Wish I ate like a bird, but I like to cook, so I like to eat.)

Sounds like you might want to focus more on weight lifting to get definiton. Cardio won't do that as well as weights. I do cardio everyday but that is because I run and I am training so I run 5 days a week, and do lowmax and kickbox on the other 2 days. I lift 6 days a week. So far this works for me...:)...Carole

I do 45-60 minutes of cardio 5 days per week and about 45 minutes of weight lifting on those days as well. On a sixth day I double my cardio and do 90 minutes. I don't do ANYTHING on my rest day!
I think that if you are careful to crosstrain, then doing cardio six days is OK, but it varies from individual to individual.

I agree with Carole that weight lifting is key to see definition.

I am a cardio junkie and always have to do it before any weights, but that is just me. I like to eat as well, so I need A LOT of cardio! :)

Don't be afraid to experiment and do what works for YOU!

I do alot of cardio.I think it just cancels out some crap that I eat:) LOL
I do cardio 6 days a week.Could be a video or a run, anywhere from 5-10 miles, depending on how much energy I have. And days when I am off, I may even sqeeze a run in, in the evening after dinner:) I just hate sitting around the house.

But...Im not as light as you are so if you want muscle definition, I would go with what Carole said.Cut back a little if you are not trying to lose weight and go heavy with the weights.

Michele - You crack me up! I'm so happy that you shared that with us all because WHO KNEW????? I thought maybe you had crossed over and were now a crazy cardio girl (AS IF!!!).

Jennifer - I currently do cardio 6 days a week. Where can I find that one body part a day rotation? I tried doing a search for it earlier today but couldn't find it. Oooo - maybe on the rotation forum? I better check there.

OOOOH, now THAT'S a surprise, Michele!:p

I echo lots of the ladies that posted already...I do cardio daily MOST of the time (I work out 6 days per wk) unless I am doing a rotation that doesn't happen to have it that often. I am a big eater as well so I am afraid to skip the cardio too often....:9 }( :9 :+ ...In addition, I am looking to lose more body fat so cardio is a must!:)

I do 45 to 60 minutes of cardio six to seven days a week, and I hit weights two to three days a week, unless I am following a one body part a day rotation. One of the reasons I do so much cardio is that I love it, and I get an aerobic high, plus it keeps me from getting too heavy.

I shoot for 6 days a week. I'm not really doing it for weight loss since I'm pretty much where I want to be, & at this point my weight is dictated more by my diet than my exercise routine.

Probably it's a bit much, but I do it b/c I enjoy it, it makes me feel good, & it really gives me an energy kick before I go to work.

UGH no I hate running. To hard on my joints, plus it bores the heck out of me.

On Saturdays & Sundays I do 20 minutes on the arc trainer & 20 minutes on the recumbent bike (40 minutes each day).

During the week I get up before work & usually do 2-3 steady state cardio workouts & 1-2 interval workouts.

During the summer I vary this with a little bike riding, jump rope, & maybe some easy jogs on the boardwalk (which is much less boring b/c there's a volleyball tournament on the beach every w/e ;) ).

Oddly enough, while my weight training stays the same, my cardio is really varied & completely unpredictable.

I shoot for five days of cardio. Do I always get it? Of course not, but that is my goal. ;-) I love step and am really starting to get into the interval workouts (IMAXs rock!). I also really enjoy kickboxing and have been changing up from step to kickboxing. I did CTX Kickbox yesterday and even though it's only 30 minutes, my legs were so wore last night! SO of course I had to torture myself with IMAX1 today. }(

My goal is to workout 6 days a week, one body part/day and cardio daily. I can't honestly say I reach my goal every week. Maybe 2 weeks out of the month I get it all in. I love cardio. I hear Michele hates it though.

It's my dirty little secret.

Michele:eek:

Jennifer,

The amount of cardio each person needs varies drastically. Not only because of the physical goals and how they vary from person to person but because we don't all have the same body type.

If your goal is to obtain more muscle definition, keep up the weights, keep the diet as clean as possible and do as little cardio as you can possibly get away with. Well, how much is that?? Start with a 3-4 days a week for 30-40 minutes, take a look at your progress and adjust from there. That may be too much...or too little for you.

I would also make sure that you are consuming a very healthy and balanced meal as soon as your workout is over. Healthy carbs, some lean protein and a dash of good fat. It will help your body repair and recover.

I manage to squeeze in four days of cardio. I would truly love to do six (plus one rest day), but I just can't make it work and maintain my weight lifting as well. I truly envy those of you who have the time to do it all!

My schedule goes something like this:
Monday - 1 hr cardio + stretch
Tuesday - 1 hr full body weights; abs; hopefully stretch
Wednesday - Off
Thursday - 1 hr. lower body weights
Friday - 1 hr cardio
Saturday - 1 hr cardio; 1 hr upper body weights; abs; stretch
Sunday - 1 hr cardio; 1 hr lower body weights; abs; stretch

My dream would be six days of cardio, three days of upper body, three days of lower body, and three days of abs (maybe four).

I do 4-5 days of cardio a week. I used to do more, but found that I couldn't get all of the weight work in while doing so much cardio. I actually feel a lot better and have more energy now that I am only doing cardio 4 days a week. I was dreading my workouts when I was doing cardio every day, but Sarah was right that it really depends on your goals and what works for you. I have added a couple days of yoga into my regime and feel so much stronger since.

Nope. I definitely don't do cardio daily. If I did cardio daily, turned sideways and stuck my tongue out I would look like a zipper. I just would be way too skinny. I try to keep it to a minimum.... maybe about 3 times a week.
