Which workout shoes are best?

Hi, I am looking for a recommendation on good workout shoes. What shoes do you wear in your newer step videos? My shoes are worn out and I would like some guidance!
Thanks so much,
Amy

I like the New Balance because of the arch support. I love the running sneakers for running and I bought a pair of cross triners (804) for step and kickboxing which I just started using and am happy with. I didn't even have to break them in. This brand is made for my feet. But I sugjest go to the store and try a bunch of brands on. Stay with cross trainers I guess because I never saw any "step sneakers" I use to use hi tops but they don't make them anymore. I liked them, but oh well. But I would see what feels the best on your feet. run around the store and jump a bit, you may look funny but hey, you'll give people something to talk about when they get in their cars. ;.)

I've never tried New Balance, but the best aerobic shoes I've ever had (and I've had plenty) are Ryka's "Cirrus". They are made specifically for Aerobics and you can also use them for cross-training. And they're hi-tops! They really do a great job cushioning your feet and I never feel my heels sliding out of them like I do with other shoes.

Just make sure if you get them that you go a size or two up from your regular size because they fit small.

Problem is, Cirrus can be difficult to find. The only place I've been able to purchase them here in metro Toronto is at a mall gym down the street from work. Matter of fact, I'm planning on getting myself a second pair at lunch-hour (one for home, one for the gym).

You might like to check Ryka's website "www.ryka.com"

Sometimes they have buy one get second at half price sale -- which I found out was around Back to School and after Xmas. You might want to check when they are having that sale again. You can also get Rykas at www.northlandmarine.com and www.sneakerland.com.

I absolutely LOVE New Balance. I have tried almost all of the brands and so far NB has them beaten, hands (feet) down!

I've never heard of Ryka's Cirrus. But I'm happy w/ new balance. I found them to fit right away and I didn't have to break them in. I find them good for feet with an arch that needs support. My neice has them and loves them too.
Hope you find what you need.

IMHO, or my feets HO, for running, I love the 713's. But you can't get them anymore, we I think, got the last 2 pair in the contry!? ;.)
But now they make the 714's which you may want to try.
But for other things (everything really) you can wear the 804's which are cross trainers. I just bought them for Christmas and they fit well. I didn't have to break them in..did I mention that? New Balance should pay me for all I say 'bout them. :D
Hope that helps.

Hi Amy! I have Ryka Rossettas on in Rhythmic Step however they have already been discontinued (I'm so disappointed about that :-()

Hi Cathe, Thank you for responding! I have ordered some New Balance WFX823..hopefully they will be good. I HAVE heard that Ryka makes a good shoe, but I have found that they are hard to locate (at least in Canada).

Faythe,

I, too, am an avid fan of New Balance shoes! I have tried many brands of athletic shoes, since I have been working out for 27 years - all the other shoes I have tried have made my feet feel squished and I would get blisters. Whenever I would get another brand I could only wear them for 15 minute intervals until I broke them in.. With the New Balnce (which has the wider front that I need because I have a wider foot) I do not have to break it in at all. I could do 3 miles on the treadmill and and hour of stepping and my feet are not sore at all. I love New Balance and now that is the only shoe I will buy. My last pair cost $65.00 - at first I winced at the price but when I wore them the first time I knew it was worth the money. Hey, maybe we could do a commercial for them and get a few pairs for free!

That's the problem. You search and finally find a shoe you like and then it gets discontinued. Then you start all over again!
